一鸣惊人 翻译

“一鸣惊人”这则成语源于楚庄王励精图治、振兴楚国的故事。

This piece of idiom, “To amaze the world with a single brilliant feat.” ,came from the story about king Zhuang of Chu(a country‟s name) who arouse d all his effects to manage and develop his country.

《韩非子·喻老》记载这件事说：“楚庄王莅政三年，无令发，无政为也。右司马御座，而与王隐（有所暗指的话称…隐‟）曰…有鸟止南方之阜（土山），三年不翅，不飞不鸣，嘿然无声，此为何名？‟王曰：…三年不翅，将以长羽翼；不飞不鸣，将以观民则。虽无飞，飞必冲天；虽无鸣，鸣必惊人。‟”韩非子的记载是这则成语最早的典源。

This story was recorded in the book named Hanfeizi·Yudao. The book says, “King Zhuang of Chu had been in power for three years but he didn‟t give any orders or deal with any political affairs. One day, his subordinate Yousima(military official‟s name) sat near him and said argot to him, “There is a kind of bird perched on the south hill. It hasn‟t fly or sing for three years, do you know about this kind of birds? What‟s wrong with it?”Zhuang got Yousima‟s point then said, “There are some reasons for the birds to do so. Not flying is for the bird to grow their feathers. Not singing is for observing the habit of the public. Although it didn‟t fly now, once it flies, it would fly up to the sky. Although it didn‟t sing now, once it sings, it would sing high.” This story has been the earliest record of the idiom.

《史记·滑稽列传》也载有楚庄王之后同类事：“齐威王之时喜隐，好为淫乐长夜之饮，沈湎不治，委政卿大夫。淳于髡说之以隐曰：…国中有大鸟，止王之庭，三年不蜚（通“飞”）又不鸣，王知此鸟何也？‟王曰：…此鸟不飞则已，一飞冲天；不鸣则已，一鸣惊人。‟”

Shiji·huajiliezhuan（a book contains some stories about some funny but capable people）also recorded the same kind of story of king Zhuang, “King Wei of Qi liked saying argot when he was in power. He indulged in drinking all the night and ignored the public affairs. Left all the affairs to Qingdafu (political official‟s name) . One day his subordinate Chun Y umo said argot to him, “There is a kind of bird perched on south hill. It hasn‟t fly or sing for three years, do you know about this kind of birds? What‟s wrong with it?” The king said, “A lthough it didn‟t fly now, once it flies, it would fly up to the sky. Although it didn‟t sing now, once it sings, it would sing high.”
