In recent couple of years,there has been much controversy across China over whether the retirement age should be postponed.While some people are in favor of the proposal of delaying the retirement age,others apparently take the opposite ground.

Weighing both pros and cons of putting off the retirement time,I am inclined to side with the latter viewpoint.To begin with,if the old and infirm retire at a later age,they are bound to undesirably stand in the way of the younger and healthier people,who are desperate for a work chance. Moreover,imposing such a policy upon those who have worked though long years and are counting their days for a good rest is actually impairing their welfare.In addition,retiring later means a larger proportion of the aged left in working places,who have lower efficiency and less enthusiasm for innovation--two apparent demerits for rising prosperity.

Based on what has been discussed above,a sound conclusion can be drawn that putting off the retirement age is a double-edged sword and may do more harm than good to senior citizens as well as the society.

Over the years,there has been lasting debate over whether celebrities should be role models.Some people claim that celebrities are obliged to set positive examples for their far-reaching social influence. Others,nevertheless,apparently stand on a different ground.They argue that public figures are under no commitment of being role models.

Weighing merits and demerits of both arguments,I am inclined to favor the latter.To begin with,no individual is perfect,and icons are no exception.They may stand out in certain field but are no different from ordinary people in other aspects.Furthermore,to err is human.Celebrities,

just like us,may commit forgivable minor mistakes in life.It would be too demanding and unreasonable to require them to get everything right. And above all,celebrities live under the spotlight at the cost of their freedom.Instead of being committed to set examples in all areas,they deserve more personal space to be at their own.

To sum up,celebrities should not be burdened with the task of setting role models.Instead,they are entitled to decent personal freedom.

Currently,you cannot fail to discern a conspicuous fact that the vast majority of college freshmen are escorted by their parents on the enrollment day.Some people claim that it is natural for parents to accompany their kids to college that day,as they want to get to know their children’s school and new environment.Others,however,differ in

their viewpoints,arguing that the demerits of parents’escorting a would-be college student on the enrollment day apparently outweigh its merits.

I firmly advocate college freshmen go to the college on their own. First and foremost,as the offspring of a pair of birds leave the nest when they are big enough to fly,it is high time college freshmen learned to be self-reliant at this age.Moreover,without their parents’company,they will be blessed with more chances to mingle and communicate with their fellow students—the very step of a lasting friendship on a new stage of life.In addition,on the enrollment day,most colleges are overburdened with their accommodation for a large army of parents.Such a chaos can be much relieved if college freshmen go to the college by themselves.

In recent years,a growing number of college graduates frequently

change their jobs,which,as a matter of fact,has aroused considerable public concern.Some people claim that job-hopping is a blessing as it generates more opportunities for college graduates.Others,nevertheless, view it rather differently.

From my perspective,the merits of frequent job-switching obviously outweigh its demerits.First and foremost,employers tend to frown at and turn down those who often switches their jobs,as they are likely to associate frequent job-hoppers with a lack of loyalty.Moreover,those who change jobs too often may well end up with little savings.And above all,changing jobs too many times is likely to generate a keen sense of confusion and frustration,which may be linked to depression and other mental disorders.

To sum up,frequent job hoping is,to a great extent,a double-edged sword,which may do more harm than good to college graduates.

In recent couple of years,concerns are raised that a growing number of youngsters are participating in a wide variety of TV talent shows, sometimes even at the sacrifice of their schooling,in the hope of fulfilling their dreams of getting famous overnight.

What factors are accountable for such an upsetting phenomenon? From my perspective,possible answers to this question can be roughly summed up as follows.First and foremost,increasing teenagers are pursuing a mushroom fame,which they believe is a cash cow that will earn them a comfortable life.Furthermore,it is the mass media to blame for creating an illusion that hard work is outdated and a fast buck is available once you become well known.And above all,the society as a whole has gone awry in its work moral as well as distribution of wealth.
