1. Don't avoid or ignore negativity.

In order to conquer and overcome, it must be acknowledged. This can include people in your life who may be bringing you down, a hostile workplace environment or even a personal stressor that you haven't conquered quite yet. You are in control of your environment and if these negative situations keep making an appearance, it's up to you to handle them.

2. Take care of yourself and your needs.

In order to feel compelled to live a powerful and meaningful life, you must love you. Take care of your actions and how you live each day, and this will be reflected in your thoughts and emotional state of mind. Love yourself fully in order to love others fully.

3. Mend what's broken or get rid of it.

Determining what is worth your time and effort and what is not can be challenging. If situations are toxic and beyond repair, it's time to let go. Are there relationships or friendships that remain damaged but you know are worth the time Fix them and find peace. Do what you can to find love in situations where it may have be absent in the past.

4. Give back.

Giving our time, energy, love, mentorship and sometimes money is what life is about. Everything we put out into the world comes back to us. My mom taught me a quote she learned in Mexico that stuck with me forever, "donde comen uno, comen dos." (where one can eat, two can eat.) It moves me every time I say it out loud. At the end of the day, no matter what you have you are likely in a position to give something small to someone else who needs it. Don't hesitate.

5. Things that make us smile, laugh and feel good are just awesome.

This one is pretty simple...Just do MORE of it. Do more of what makes you happy! I truly believe that in the super fast paced world we live in, happiness may not come as easily as we wish. In order to navigate through work and responsibilities that seem monotonous, we have to actively pursue and engage in beautiful acts of love and kindness. So get to it!

A lot of us are looking to make some positive changes in our life, but we have no idea where to begin. My suggestion is to do something different.

When you're willing to do something different, you are telling yourself, your subconscious mind, and the entire Universe, "I'm asking for a change and I'm willing to DO something about it now." The Universe responds to DOING since it actually means you're starting to also BE something different.

You don't even have to know what to do, at least not at the start. Doing ANYTHING different, that seems like it MIGHT head in the direction of what you are looking for, is a step in the right direction. You can make adjustments as you go. You can fine-tune the changes you are asking for later, once you get the hang of doing something different. The point is this: DO SOMETHING -- ANYTHING -- DIFFERENT.

Let's say you have the same habit of never having enough money in your bank account, but you never know where it goes. Something different might be getting an old-school notebook out and writing down your expenses. Or if you want to be fashionably high-tech, you could get an expense-tracking app, AND USE IT. This one small act for many people has been the beginning of getting their financial affairs in order by doing something different.

Or let's say you realize that you are being sucked down the social media rabbit hole, feeling as though you don't exist without the infusion of other people's perfectly-curated lives into yours. (Hint: if you're rabidly checking your phone at every non-busy moment, this applies to you.) Doing something different might be taking designated hours off during the day--or even just ONE HOUR off during the day. (Note: picking one of the hours while you're sleeping doesn't count!) One courageous journalist I know of took an entire 30 days away from "social." Now THAT is something different!

Now, I'm not suggesting that you go cold turkey like that unless you have a lot of personal strength and courage, and the willingness to dynamically change that area of your life. Sometimes making a bold move like that will be what's required. Many times making a small change in the direction of doing something different will create enough of a change to give you a different perspective and get you out of the rabbit hole.

“Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.” ~Henry David Thoreau

Everything about my future was ambiguously assumed. I would get into debt by going to college, then I would be forced to get a job to pay off that debt, while still getting into more and more debt by buying a house and a car. It seemed like a never-ending cycle that had no place for the possibility of a dream.

I want more—but not necessarily in the material sense of personal wealth and success. I want more out of life. I want a passion, a conceptual dream that wouldn’t let me sleep out of pure excitement. I want to spring out of bed in the morning, rain or shine, and have that zest for life that seemed so intrinsic in early childhood.

We all have a dream. It might be explicitly defined or just a vague idea, but most of us are so stuck in the muck of insecurity and self-doubt that we just dismiss it as unrealistic or too difficult to pursue.

We become so comfortable with the life that has been planned out for us by our parents, teachers, traditions, and societal norms that we feel that it’s stupid and unsafe to risk losing it for the small hope of achieving something that is more fulfilling.

“The p olicy of being too cautious is the greatest risk of all.” ~Jawaharlal Nehru

Taking a risk is still a risk. We can, and will, fail. Possibly many, many, many times. But that is what makes it exciting for me. That uncertainty can be viewed negatively, or it can empower us.

Failing is what makes us grow, it makes us stronger and more resilient to the aspects of life we

have no control over. The fear of failure, although, is what makes us stagnant and sad. So even though I couldn’t see the future as clearly a s before, I took the plunge in hopes that in the depths of fear and failure, I would come out feeling more alive than ever before.

If you feel lost, just take a deep breath and realize that being lost can be turning point of finding out who you truly are, and what you truly want to do.

Gracious giving requires no special talent, nor large amounts of money. It is compounded of the heart and head acting together to achieve the perfect means of expressing our feelings. For, as Emerson explains, "The only gift is a portion of thyself."

A little girl gave her mother several small boxes tied with bright ribbons. Inside each were slips of paper on which the child had printed messages such as, "Good for two flower-bed weedings," "Good for two floor-scrubbings." She had never read Emerson, but unconsciously she put a large part of her small self into her gift.

A young bride received a wedding present from an older woman. With it went a note, "Do not open until you and your husband have your first tiff."

When there finally came a day of misunderstanding the bride remembered the package. In it she found a card box filled with her friend's favorite recipes--and a note, "You will catch more flies with honey than you will with vinegar." It was a wise woman indeed who gave of her experience with her gift.

Family gifts should be the most satisfying because we know each member's wish and whim. Yet how often we make the stereotyped offerings--ties, candy, or household utensils. One man I know is planning an unusual present for his wife. When I saw him coming out of a dancing studio, he explained: "I got tired of hearing my wife complain about my dancing. It's going to be a lasting birthday present for her--my dancing well."

An elderly lady on an Iowa farm wept with delight when her son in New York had a telephone installed in her house and followed it up with a weekly long-distance call.

All gifts that contain a portion of self signify that someone has been really thinking of us. One of the most useful and thoughtful travel presents a girl ever received was currency of the country to which she was going. A friend bought her some pesos from a bank so that she would have the correct money for tips and taxi fare when she first arrived in Mexico.

Chances for heroic giving are rare, yet every day there are opportunities to give a part of yourself to someone who needs it. It may be no more than a kind word or a letter written at the right time. The important thing about any gift is the amount of yourself you put into it.

Ramona's Touch It was only a few weeks after my surgery, and I went to Dr. Belt's office for a checkup. It was just after my first chemotherapy(化疗)treatment. My scar was still very _1_. My arm was numb underneath. This whole set of unique and _2_ sensations was like having a new roommate to share the two-bedroom apartment formerly known as my breasts - now lovingly known as "the breast and the chest." As usual, I was taken to an examination room to have my blood drawn, _3_ - a terrifying process for me, since I'm so frightened of needles. I lay down on the examining table. I'd worn a big plaid flannel shirt and a camisole underneath. It was a carefully thought _4_ costume that I hoped others would regard as a casual wardrobe choice. The plaid _5_ my new chest, the camisole protected it and the buttons on the shirt made for easy medical access. Ramona entered the room. Her warm sparkling smile was familiar, and stood out in _6_ to my fears. I'd first seen her in the office a few weeks earlier. She wasn't my nurse on that day, but I _7_ her because she was laughing. She laughed in deep, round and rich tones. I remember wondering what could be so _8_ behind that medical door. What could she possibly find to laugh about at a time like this? So I decided she wasn't _9_ enough about the whole thing and that I would try to find a nurse who was. But I was wrong. This day was different. Ramona had taken my blood before. She knew about my fear of _10_, and she kindly hid the paraphernalia under a magazine with a bright blue picture of a kitchen being remodeled. As we opened the blouse and dropped the camisole, the catheter on my breast was _11_ and the fresh scar on my chest could be seen. She said, "How is your scar healing?" I said, "I think pretty well. I wash around it gently each day." The memory of the shower water hitting my numb chest_12_ across my face. She gently reached _12 _and ran her hand across the scar, examining the smoothness of the healing skin and looking for any irregularities. I began to _13_ gently and quietly. She brought her _14_ eyes to mine and said, "You haven't touched it yet, have you?" And I said, "No." So this wonderful, warm woman laid the palm of her golden brown hand on my pale chest and she gently held it there. For a long time. I continued to cry quietly. In soft tones she said, "This is part of your body. This is you. It's okay to touch it." But I couldn't. So she touched it for me. The scar. The healing _15_. And beneath it, she touched my heart. Then Ramona said, "I'll _16_ your hand while you touch it." So she placed her hand next to mine, and we both were _17_. That was the gift that Ramona gave me. That night as I lay down to sleep, I gently _18_ my hand on my chest and I left it there until I dozed off. I knew I wasn't _19_. We were all in bed together, metaphorically speaking, my breast, my chest, Ramona's gift and me. 1.A.distinct B.clear C.tender D.miserable 2.A.terrible B.hopelessness C.grieved D.weird 3.A.again B.as C.although D.also 4.A.about B.of C.out D.up 5.A.protruded B.camouflaged C.decorated D.exposed 6.A.contrast https://www.360docs.net/doc/136436470.html,parison C.confront D.face 7.A.recognize B.remember C.dislike D.know 8.A.terrible B.impassable C.happiness D.funny 9.A.good B.cheerful C.hardworking D.serious 10.A.needles B.blood C.she D.syringe 11.A.off B.exposed C.removed D.unfolded 12.A.flashed B.went C.dodged D.through 12.A.over B.on C.in D.of 13.A.cry B.smile C.look D.whisper 14.A.bright B.enchanted C.warm D.sharp 15.A.wound B.skin C.breast D.heart 16.A.pick B.take C.give D.hold 17.A.quiet B.smile C.peaceful https://www.360docs.net/doc/136436470.html,ugh 18.A.hold B.capture C.stroke D.place 19.A.afraid B.helpless C.alone D.gratitude CDACB ABDDA BAAAC ADADC

Bound to Forgive By Steve Goodier Writer Norman Cousins said that life is an adventure in forgiveness. I think Fr. Lawrence Martin Jenco would agree. In 1984, Fr. Jenco traveled to Beirut, dedicated to help the poorest of the poor. On January 8, 1985, he was kidnapped by Shiite Muslim extremists and held hostage for 564 days. He endured imprisonment, beatings, illness and heartbreaking periods of sorrow and loneliness. Several years after his release, he wrote a book (BOUND TO FORGIVE, Ave Maria Press, 1995) about his experiences in captivity and, more importantly, about the power of love and forgiveness. Fr. Jenco tells about being taped like a mummy from his ankles to the top of his head each time he was transported from one place to another. He described being forced to breathe only from his nose as his mouth was stuffed with a cloth and taped shut. He tells of times when his captors said they were going to kill him and he waited for the bullet to go through his head. Other times he was dressed up and told he was going home, only to have his spirits dashed when he was later informed they were teasing. He remembers being chained hand and foot, donning a plastic bag on his head, and left in a two-foot by six-foot closet. And he remembers his stench when he was denied washing for over four months. He was later asked what lesson those of us who haven't been in such a position can learn from his experience and apply to our daily living. He said, "Just look at the madness that goes on in the world today. We lug our hates and our bigotry and prejudices from generation to generation and we pass [them] on.... We [must] stop and look at each other and say, 'I am so sorry for the hurt I caused you. I ask your forgiveness.' And then [we must] extend forgiveness and... receive forgiveness. Somewhere along the line we are going to have to do that. We're all bound to forgive." Fr. Jenco has forgiven and can attest to the power of forgiveness. And though our hurt may not be the same as his, it is no less real. We, too, are "bound" to forgive. For when we covenant with life to earnestly forgive whatever hurts come our way, we see amazing results. We find inner peace and, often, improved physical health as well. As Dr. O. A. Battista says, "One of the most lasting pleasures you can experience is the feeling that comes over you when you genuinely forgive an enemy -- whether he knows it or not." I've come to realize that genuine forgiveness is crucial if any of us will find peace. Whether or not it restores a broken relationship, it sets our own hearts free. Those who will be bound by the promise to sincerely forgive, will be freed from the bonds of the past. Those are Fr. Jenco's words: "We're all bound to forgive." And those who are bound to forgive are bound to be happy.

Learning the skills of business

Learning the skills of business We study subjects like math, history and science in school. This gives us plenty of skills and knowledge to use in life. However, there are other skills that are best developed through practical, work-related experience. These are things like teamwork, punctuality (守时) and negotiation techniques(谈判技巧) –all of which are important in the world of employment. There is a charity (慈善机构) in the UK that helps young people learn useful business skills. Young Enterprise gathers volunteers from more than 3,500 companies.
