"My life is full of drama and I won't have time to worry about something

as petty(琐碎的)as what I look like." Not words you'd expect from a superstar.

But being ordinary is exactly what makes British singer-songwriter Adele so

extraordinary.

Adele一full name Adele Laurie Blue Adkins一has had countless number

one hits and has broken three Guinness “don't make music fur eye, make music

for ears.” Records, including being the first female singer to spend 11 straight

weeks at UK number one with the album, “21” Her popularity goes across the

Atlantic. At the American Music Awards in November, she earned three prizes for best female pop artist, best album with “21”,and top adult modern performer.

Adele was born in north London, and still speaks with a typical London accent. Her chatty London girl attitude has had its weakness. She recently had to cancel a tour because of a vocal(声带)problem. She told the Sun that the root of the problem was "because I was talking too much".

Adele started writing songs at the age of 15 when she bought herself a guitar. She recorded three songs for a class project and posted them on https://www.360docs.net/doc/1e4554927.html,. The songs were spotted by a record company, and her career kicked off. Adele has her own tips for singing: "it's more impressive, somehow, if you don't try to impress", she said. "Be natural with it. Say it straight."

Despite her fame, Adele still holds onto her personality. Though some have criticized her body shape, Adele has said that she doesn't like going to the gym. "I like eating fine foods and drinking nice wine," she told Rolling Stone magazine.

Adele is now number nine in the Sunday Times Rich List for British music stars under the age of 30. Despite this, she remains the same as ever. In a recent interview with the Telegraph, she described how she enjoys her success: "Money doesn't matter to me-I've never had it. I give a lot to Great Ormond Street Hospital, monthly... It's important to me that I give, because people always helped me and my mom out when we needed it."

Drinking Water: Bottled or From the Tap(水龙头)?

In America, people will include a case or two of bottled water when buying the week's groceries(日用杂货).When they are going to a soccer game or activity, it's common for them to grab a cold bottle of water out of the fridge with them.In fact, Americans buy more bottled water than any other nation in the world, about 29 billion bottles a year.

But all these plastic bottles use a lot of fossil fuels and pollute the environment. In order to make all the 29 billion bottles, producers use 17 million barrels of crude oil, which is enough to keep a million cars going for 12 months.

So why don't people drink water straight from the tap? Some people have a strong belief that bottled water is better than water out of the tap, but that's not necessarily true.In the US, the local governments make sure water from the tap is safe. There is also growing concern that chemicals in the bottles themselves may go into the water.

People love the convenience of bottled water. But maybe if they realized the problems it causes, they would try drinking from a glass at home or carrying water in a reusable steel container instead of plastic. Some argue that plastic bottle recycling can help.Recycled bottles can be turned into items like carpeting or clothing.Unfortunately, only one in six bottles is recycled. The rest make it to landfills(垃圾填埋场)or end as trash in other places.

Plastic bottles take hundreds of years for them to break down

into small pieces.

Water is important for you, so keep drinking it.But think about how often you use water bottles, and see if you can make a change.

And yes, you can make a difference.Remember this: Recycling one plastic bottle can save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for six hours.

63. How many cars can be kept going for half a year by the crude oil used to make 29 billion bottles?

A.1,000,000. B.200,000 C.100,000. D.2,000,000.

64. Why do Americans prefer bottled water?

A.Bottled water is more convenient than water from the tap.

B.Water from the tap is more expensive than bottled water.

C.Bottled water contains beneficial chemicals.

D.Bottled water is healthier than water from the tap.

65. Which of the following is Not true?

A.Americans are more likely to drink bottled water when having sports.

B.You can save about 360-watt energy if you spare a bottle.

C.It won’t be long before plastic bottles break down into small pieces.

D.People are more worried about whether the chemicals in the bottle may go into the water.

66. With this passage the author mainly want to suggest Americans _________.

A.send plastic bottles to landfills B.drink more water from the tap

C.use water bottles to power light bulbs D.buy bottles filled with water from the tap

Sometimes a person may be upset because he does not have something as nice as a friend has. That person may say he is green with envy(嫉妒).Some people are green with envy because a friend has more dollars or greenbacks.Dollars are called greenbacks because green is the color of the back side of the paper money.

短文写作

Promising someone means telling someone that you will certainly do something. Once you have made a promise, you should spare no effort to carry it out.

However, I broke a promise three weeks ago. I promised Wang Lin, a good friend of mine, that I would help him with English on Saturday afternoon. But I was occupied in playing computer games and didn’t go to help him. The next day, I realized that I had done wrong. As a result, I apologized to Wang Lin and helping him with English. He accepted my sincere apology and forgave me.

So before making promises, you should think twice and don’t make promises that you cannot keep.
