Students who want to enter Tsinghua University this year had better be able to swim or be prepared to learn swimming and pass a swim test.
Liu Bo, head of the university's sports science and physical education division, said the university will organize a swimming test for all the freshmen in September,
and those who fail to swim at least 50 meters using any stroke(姿势) will be required to take a swimming course throughout their studies so that they are able to swim by the time they graduate, or the university won't offer them a diploma.

Why is the university linking swimming ability with degrees? "As a survival skill, swimming is good for students in the long run, since swimming is helpful in improving students' endurance(耐力) and doing less harm to them as a water sport," said Liu Bo.
Many students of this university had to meet the swimming challenge. The famous writer Liang Shiqiu, entering Tsinghua University in 1915, failed the swimming test before his graduation, and he had to do his best at the make-up examination. Human beings often decide where to live based on the natural resources(资源) in the area. Natural resources(资源) are things that are useful to people and come from the earth. Materials for building houses are natural resources. So are foods, such as fruit, vegetables, animals that could be caught or hunted and water.
