Lesson 70 Red for danger 危险的红色

First listen and then answer the question.

听录音,然后回答以下问题。

How was the drunk removed from the ring?

During a bullfight, a drunk suddenly wandered into the middle of the ring. The crowd began to shout, but the drunk was unaware2 of the danger. The bull1 was busy with the matador3 at the time, but it suddenly caught sight of the drunk who was shouting rude remarks and waving a red cap. Apparently4 sensitive to criticism, the bull forgot all about the matador and charged at the drunk. The crowd suddenly grew quiet. The drunk, however, seemed quite sure of himself. When the bull got close to him, he clumsily stepped aside to let it pass. The crowd broke into cheers and the drunk bowed. By this time, however, three men had come into the ring and they quickly dragged the drunk to safety. Even the bull seemed to feel sorry for him, for it looked on sympathetically until the drunk was out of the way before once more turning its attention to the matador.

国外亦称PRESENTATION(老师讲解)-- PR ACTICE(实践)-- PRODUCTION(学生输出),简称3P法。 What did you do last week? Where did you go last week? Could you hear well? Didn’t you go to the cinema last night? How did the young man behind the writer behave at the theatre?

1. sentence fragments (incomplete sentences) l How to use it? l The essay is poorly organized, there is no central idea. l There were people who would be glad to see him leave the place, he knew it. Exceptions made by experienced writers: l He was, I think, very handsome. I gathered this from photographs and from my own memories of him. Handsome and proud, like a peacock. (sense and structure matched well) l I shook his hands and his shoulders, as I cried out his name again and again, but, no response——he died. (a suspense created by

short, incomplete sentence) 2. chop sentences (short, simple sentences) In advanced writing, students are encouraged to write long and complex sentences, conveying sufficient information and ideas, making sense groups logically and naturally connected so as to achieve a tightly woven piece of writing. Short and simple sentences may be used for a change or for sentence variety, as well as for some special effect. l There was a pine tree on the top of the mountain. It stood like a giant. It towered over the trees around it. (On the top of the mountain stood a giant pine tree, towering over the trees around.) l Mr. Smith likes to drink all kinds of wines. Most of them are produced in France. (Mr. Smith prefers French wines.) 3. colloquial words and expressions in writing Writing itself is generally formal, or at least less informal. Therefore, if it is not written for some special informal situation, formal and standard written language is preferred. Colloquial English is, in most cases, not proper in essay writing. l I’ve got a terrible headache. (I am afflicted with a bad

Book II Lesson 25 Do the English speak English? I arrived in London at last. The railway station was big, black and dark. I did not know the way to my hotel, so I asked a porter. I not only spoke English very carefully, but very clearly as well. The porter, however, could not understand me; I repeated my question several times and at last he understood. He answered me, but he spoke neither slowly nor clearly. 'I am a foreigner,' I said. Then he spoke slowly, but I could not understand him. My teacher never spoke English like that! The porter and I looked at each other and smiled. Then he said something and I understood it. 'You'll soon learn English!' he said.I wonder. In England, each man speaks a different language. The English understand each other, but I don't understand them ! Do they speak English ? Book II Lesson 26 The best art critics ?I am an art student and I paint a lot of pictures. Many people pretend that they understand modern art. They always tell you what a picture is 'about'. Of course, many pictures arc not 'about' anything. They are just pretty patterns. We like them in the same way that we like pretty curtain material. I think that young children often appreciate modern pictures better than anyone else. They notice more. My sister is only seven, but she always tells me whether my pictures are good or not. She came into my room yesterday.' What are you doing ?' she asked.' I'm hanging this picture on the wall,' I answered. 'It's a new one. Do you like it ?' She looked at it critically for a moment.' It's all right,' she said, 'but isn't it upside-down ?' I looked at it again. She was right! It was! Book II Lesson 27 A wet night Late in the afternoon, the boys put up their tent in the middle of a field. As soon as this was done, they cooked a meal over an open fire.

Lesson 25 Do the English speak English? 英国人讲的是英语吗? Why does the writer not understand the porter? I arrived in London at last. The railway station was big, black and dark. I did not know the way to my hotel, so I asked a porter. I not only spoke English very carefully, but very clearly as well. The porter, however, could not understand me. I repeated my question several times and at last he understood. he answered me, but he spoke neither slowly nor clearly. 'I am a foreigner,' I said. Then he spoke slowly, but I could not understand him. My teacher never spoke English like that! The porter and I looked at each other and smiled. Then he said something and I understood it. 'You'll soon learn English!' he said. I wonder. In England, each person speaks a different language. The English understand each other, but I don't understand them! Do they speak English? 【New words and expressions】(5) railway n. 铁路,铁道 [U] (Br.) / railroad (Am.) a line of railway 一条铁路 railway station 火车站 railway n. 轨道 (pl.) 新概念英语简介、优点、缺陷及弥补办法

新概念英语的优点与缺陷及弥补办法 毫无疑问,《新概念英语》是最能够提高英语能力的教材,得到了全世界英语学习者和英语教育专家广泛的认可。新概念英语的文章非常经典,适合学生背诵,并且涵盖了小学到高中的所有必须掌握的语法知识点。然而,因为《新概念英语》教材的经典,其也不可避免的具有因“陈旧”所导致的种种薄弱之处。 一、《新概念英语》的优势与缺陷: 1.优点:《新概念英语》的文章非常经典,适合学生背诵。而且教材涵盖了小学到高中的所有必须掌握的语法知识点,能够让学生学习和享受到真正的英语。 首先,是新概念的“系统性原则”,英卓语言的新概念横跨的英语学习梯度是绝无仅有,该书是以零基础为起点,经过英卓语言专家组对该书每册难度的细致研究,总结出新概念英语的“半册飞跃理念”,即每半册新概念英语就是一个梯度的水平飞跃一直达到纯熟精通的英语水平——考TOFEL,GRE如履平地; 其次,是新概念英语学习的“重复原则”,即在整体教法上,注重听、说、读、写的反复训练,从量变到质变,让学生们的英语水平得到质的飞跃,在教学内容上,高频词汇、句型,重点语法、结构反复出现,让你熟飨于心,“不觉之中上层楼”; 然后,就是新概念英语的“文化原则”,该书就是整个英国风俗文化的缩影——从历史到宗教,从工作到休闲,篇篇经典,深厚的不列颠文化底蕴和浓郁的英格兰风情跃然纸上,深邃而耐人寻味;
