53.[D]【译文】你真好!把这些碗碟都洗了,但你不必这样做的。

54.[D]【译文】尽管他很喜欢她,但有时又觉得她烦人。

57.[C]【译文】我喜欢秋天晴朗明亮的天气。

【解析】考查“动词+it+when/if从句”结构。该结构中,it用作形式宾语,它的真正的宾语则是由when/if引导的

TEM-2011:Should private car owners be taxed for pollution? With the development of society, many people can afford a car. As the number of the cars is rising, we are facing some problems. One big problem is the pollution caused by the use of cars. In order to solve this problem, government agencies in some big cities recently suggest that a “pollution tax” should be put on private cars in order to control the number of cars and reduce pollution in the city. For my part, I agree to this viewpoint, and my reasons are as follows: To begin with, cars contribute to the environmental pollution. For example, a lot of big cities in China are now plagued by serious air pollution. Then it is the responsibility of these private car owners to pay for the pollution and they should be taxed. The purpose of collecting environmental pollution tax is to raise the fund, and then utilize the tax revenue lever to protect our environment. Secondly, it is a good way to raise people’s environmental awareness by putting a pollution tax on private cars. If people suffer from the financial loss when making a decision, they will think more about their decision. Then they will consider more when deciding to buy a private car. Consequently, the increase rate of the number of the private cars can be controlled. In a word, it is a very good and necessary attempt to use the means of taxation to treat the pollution. Of course, it must be kept in mind that all people, including the private car owners, should try their best to protect the environment. 272words TEM-2010:Should College Students Hire Cleaners? We recycle our newspapers and bottles, we take public transport to get to work, we try to buy locally produced fruit and vegetables, and we want to take these attitudes on holiday with us. This is why alternative forms of tourism are becoming popular in the world. There are a lot of names for these new forms of tourism: responsible tourism, nature tourism, adventure tourism, educational tourism and more. 专四阅读详解 2

星期2 Tuesday Happiness is nearly always a rebound from hard work.辛勤工作的报酬几乎总是幸福。 Beauty is a curious phenomenon, one of permeable, shifting boundaries. We may think we understand it, since we sense it effortlessly. In fact, it is a bundle of mysteries researchers are still uncovering. Consider the ancient proverb: beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Until about 30 years ago it seemed too obvious for scientists to bother with. When they finally tested it, their results startled them. On the one hand, the maxim is false. Facial beauty is the same throughout the world. In every tribe and culture, individuals will consider Marilyn Monroe, say, an attractive woman. It goes further. Males can identify good-looking men, and females charming women. Old and young, rich and poor, learned and ignorant, all agree on who is beautiful. So do people of every class and personality type. We don’t learn this response. We’re born with it. In one recent study, babies just 20 hours old recognized attractive faces and preferred them. So beauty is in our DNA. The eye of the beholder doesn’t matter. On the other hand, and this is where it gets interesting, the facial shell is just the foundation of beauty. We see the self in the face, every day, all the time, and we can’t distinguish the two. This blurring means that we gift the attractive with a large number of virtues. They seem more competent, likeable, happier, blessed with better lives and personalities. In one experiment, people predicted happier marriages and better jobs for them, and rated them lower on only one aspect: their caliber as parents. Another study found people consider them more amiable, happy, flexible, pleasure-seeking, serious, candid, outspoken, perceptive, confident, assertive, curious and active. They exert more control over their destiny, subjects felt, while the homely endure the world’s sudden change. It is calle d the “beautiful is good” stereotype, and it grants the attractive a parade of boons. Teachers consider them smarter and give them higher grades. Bosses promote them faster. In one tale in The Thousand and One Nights, a thief steals a coin-bag, and when the victim accuses him, people protest: “No, he’s such a handsome youth. He wouldn’t steal anything!” In fact, attractive people can shoplift with greater ease, since witnesses are less likely to report them. And when they do stand before the court, juries acquit them more readily and judges give them lighter penalties. 1. The proverb “beauty is in the eye of beholder” means [A] that beauty can only be admitted when most people recognize it. [B] whether somebody is beautiful depends on the person who is looking.

专四 历年作文真题及范文汇总(TEM4 WRITNG)

1990 – 2011 (TEM4WRITNG)历年英语专业四级作文真题及范文汇总 2011—COMPOSITION: Recently government agencies in some big cities have been studying the possibility of putting a "pollution tax" on private cars. The amount of tax private car owners would have to pay would depend on the emission levels, i.e. engine or vehicle size. This has caused quite a stir among the public. Some regard it as an effective way to control the number of cars and reduce pollution in the city. But others don't think so. What is your opinion?Should Private Car Owners be Taxed for Pollution?(200 words) One possible version: Should Private Car Owners be Taxed for Pollution? With the development of society, many people can afford a car. As the number of the cars is rising, we are facing some problems. One big problem is the pollution caused by the use of cars. In order to solve the problem, government agencies in some big cities recently suggest that a “pollution tax” should be put on private cars to control the number of cars and reduce pollution in the city. For my part, I agree to this viewpoint, and my reasons are as follows: Firstly, cars contribute to the environmental pollution. For example, lots of big cities in China are now plagued by serious air pollution. Then it is the responsibility of these private car owners to pay for the pollution and they should be taxed. The purpose of collecting environmental pollution tax is to raise the fund, and then utilize the tax revenue lever to protect our environment.Secondly, it is a good way to raise people’s environmental awareness by putting a pollution tax on private cars. If possible, you can come here by the train No. 1010, which will arrive here at 18:00.I am looking forward to seeing you as soon as possible. Sincerely yours, Sally 2010—COMPOSITION: It was recently reported in a newspaper that six students who shared a dorm at a university hired a cleaner to do laundry and cleaning once a week. And each of them paid her 60 yuan a month. This has led to a heated debate as to whether college students should hire cleaners. Should College Students Hire Cleaners?(200 words) One possible version: Should College Students Hire Cleaners? It’s a popular phenomenon nowadays that college students would hire cleaners to help do the laundry and clean their dormitories, which has sparked a heated debate among students, parents and teachers. In my point of view, such practice should not be encouraged on campus. To begin with, college students should have the capacity for the basic laundry and cleaning work. Doing family chores is a simple way to cultivate independence. If college students can’t even do the most basic things in their life, how c an they handle big challenges under pressure in the future? In addition, college students should feel shamed of disposing of their parents’ hard-earned money in this way. Since a large proportion of their living expenses and tuition are covered by their parents, hiring cleaners could be considered a waste of money. Finally, I do not agree with those who claim they hire cleaners for the sake of either study or saving time. This is a mere excuse for their sloth and overreliance. In summary, hiring cleaners should be discouraged on campus, where students are supposed to cultivate a sense of responsibility and independence rather than become lazy parasites. NOTE-WRITING: Your good friend, John, is thinking of organizing an end-of-the-term party. Write him a note telling him that you like his idea and offer to help him.
