前段时间Faculty Office终于把众人苦等的指定推荐人给安排下来了。很多同学都咨询我们有关推荐信的问题。所以特地总结一下，写成文档，解答大家对于推荐信的一切疑问。1. 我需要找几个推荐人？

答：除美国部分大学，英国牛津大学需要3个推荐人以外（英国剑桥大学在申请奖学金的时候也需要提供第三推荐人），其他大部分学校都只需要2封推荐信（有一小部分学校只需要一封推荐信或者完全不需要推荐信）。因为FO给大家指定的都只有两个推荐人。所以要申请刚才提到的需要3封推荐信的学校的同学，就得靠自己多想想办法，多去求求老师了。

2. 老师写推荐信需要哪些材料？

答：中国的绝大多数学校都是采用学生自己写好推荐信，让老师签名的方式。而UNNC 的英式体制使得大部分老师都是要保证推荐信的confidential。所以老师们都是需要同学们给他们提供相关的材料，然后他们写好后直接发给学校的。以下是Faculty Office提供给大家的材料清单。但是我们认为，大部分情况下，除非老师特别指明，像Personal Statement，Writing Sample，Details about your community and social activities 都不需要提供给老师。

一般一份完整的CV所包含的内容就足够写推荐信了。大部分老师都没有时间去看你给他们的PS和Writing Sample的。尤其是一个同学申请了很多个专业方向的那种。

3. 老师的推荐信是怎么递交的？我能不能看到老师写的推荐信？

答：现在大部分院校都已经实行了网传推荐信的方式。即当你递交网申表格的那一刻，申请的学校就会自动将一封reference request email发至你推荐人的邮箱。里面会有具体如何上传推荐信的指引。所以同学们在递交申请之后，一定要及时提醒老师去查看相关邮件，确定老师是否收到（有少数情况可能那个邮件会在老师的垃圾邮件里面），或者老师如果拖了比较久的话，很有可能就找不到那封邮件了。另外有少部分学校，比如香港的那几所（不知为何这么不与时俱进…），仍旧需要推荐人填写完对应的Reference Form（即学校对应的推荐信表格）然后直接把推荐信快递给学校。所以，只要老师不愿意，你在这个过程中是无法看到推荐信的。当然，如果你申请的是英国里面除G5和华威以外的学校，如果老师能慷慨地把签完名的纸版推荐信交给你，那无疑是最方便的。因为英国很多学校都是能够接受学生申请的时候直接把扫描版推荐信上传的。这样就无需老师花费很多时间去一封一封地上传了。

4. 老师的推荐信里到底写了点什么内容？

答：以我们为学生写的推荐信Draft为例，推荐信里会出现推荐人的身份，与学生的关系，认识学生的时间长度。在与学生相处时，对学生学术能力的观察结论，如和学生共同参与过某个项目，则可以写学生在其中的作用，动手能力，分析、判断能力等。可以列举学生平时的一些表现（不要空洞），如上课时是否积极参与讨论，是否有自己的观点？是否有批判性的意见？如有特别印象深刻的事件，可详细写。但必须通过描述，得出对学生某种个性、成就的结论。对学生性格的描述。对学生学术能力总结，极力推荐。因此，在你给老师的参考材料中，最好尽可能全地包涵这些内容。
