Marco Polo was a famous traveler. He was known for The Travels of Marco Polo, which gave Europeans their first knowledge of life in the Far East.
Marco was born in Venice, Italy in 1254. His family was very rich, so he received very good education. As a child, he developed an interest in history and geography that would stay with him for the rest of his life.
When Marco was only six years old, his father Niccolo and his uncle Maffeo went on a journey to China. By the time they returned, Marco was already 15. When Marco was 17, he accompanied his father and uncle on their second journey to China.
They had a long and difficult journey, mostly on horseback, to reach Asia. When they finally arrived in China, they had traveled 5,600 miles for over three and a half years. They spent 17 years in China and finally began their journey home by ship. It took them about two years. However, Marco was sent in prison because of the war in 1298. In the prison, he met a writer who encouraged him to write about his travels. Then The Travels of Marco Polo became one of the most popular books at that time, though some people thought his stories were too amazing to be true.
Marco was released(释放) from prison in 1299. He lived in Venice until his death in 1324 at the age of 70. On his deathbed(临终前), he said, ―I have only told the h alf of what I saw!‖

Jocelyn Rojas, a 5-year-old girl, was taken away fro m her grandmother’s front yard on Thursday afternoon.
Temar Boggs and Chris Garcia were helping a friend move a car when the police passed by and said that a little girl was missing.
Boggs and his friends set off on their bikes and searched some woods and a nearby stream. Then they found a car with a white-haired man and a little girl inside. They went after the car. After making a few turns in the neighborhood, the man opened the door and pushed the little girl out of the car.
―As soon as the man noticed w e were running after him, he stopped and let the girl out. She ran to me and said that she needed her mum,‖ said Boggs.
The teenagers brought the girl to the police and called her parents. The police were still looking for the kidnapper(绑匪). The police described him as a white-haired man, between 50 and 70 years old, who walked with a limp(跛行).
