Last weekend, Tom and I paid a visit to the Summer Palace, which proved to be very interesting and rewarding.

We arrived at the entrance early in the morning and I introduced the history of the park to Tom briefly. The moment we entered the park, Tom was attracted by the beautiful scenery and we walked along the beautiful lake happily. Soon, we noticed an elderly man practicing calligraphy on the ground, with a bucket of water aside. Holding a big writing brush in his hand, he wrote the Chinese character for “longevity”. As well as other tourists, we couldn’t help but admire his skills.

To our surprise, the elderly man invited Tom to have a try. With his help, Tom

completed his first calligraphy task, the two Chinese characters for “China”, quite successfully. Before we left, we took a photo together to memorize this valuable experience. In the picture, Tom held the writing brush and the elderly man smiled, with his thumb up.

I was so glad that I could help my foreign friend to learn about the art of the language we have been using for several thousand years. In addition, I rediscovered the charm of Chinese culture.

On February 6, I went to visit my grandma. Entering the room, I found her busy making paper cuts. Looking at the calendar, I realized it was just the right date for room decoration according to the Chinese tradition.

Attracted by the delicate works, I couldn’t wait to have a try. With her patient instruction, I learnt the basic steps and skills of making paper cuts. It wasn’t long before my creations were “born”. Then eagerly, we put them up. With different designs on the windows, such as a monkey and the Chinese character “Fu”, our ro om was filled with a festival atmosphere.

To share our happiness with others, we called on our next door neighbors and gave them some of our paper cuts. I felt proud when receiving their appreciation of our gifts.

Paper cuts made this Spring Festival more special.

Last term, our school held a blackboard newspaper contest on“Unforgettable 2015 in China”.

At the class meeting, our teacher told us about the activity, saying that the year, 2015 was really a memorable year. In the afternoon, the ideas of the military parade and the Winter Olympic Games came to us immediately. When the designing work was done, we set about working on the blackboard. We took on different tasks. Besides writing down the main events of the year neatly on the blackboard, we also decorated it with beautiful drawings. Thanks to our hard work, our design finally won the first prize. We were not only proud of our teamwork but also deeply impressed by the great achievements of our country.

Silk Road Travel

This winter vacation I went to Dunhuang to explore the Silk Road with my classmates.

As soon as we got off the train, we were all excited and attracted by the historic touch. The next day, we visited the Mogao Caves.Deeply impressed by the splendid construction, we took many photos. A narrator introduced the wall paintings to us. With curiosity , we listened attentively, asking questions and taking notes. The camel ride on the third day was surely the most exciting part of our tour. Looking far into the desert, I pictured how ancient Chinese travelled along the Silk Road. How time flew! Soon it was the last day of our tour. At the train station, we took a photo holding a banner with “Culture Tour along the Silk Road”on it.

The trip ended but my interest keeps growing and I’m longing to see more interesting sites along the Silk Road.

荷花lotus

Last Friday, our class invited a well-known artist to teach us how to draw a lotus in Chinese painting.

As soon as the artist came into the classroom, he was given warm welcome which made him so happy. All of us wore big smiles. First, he showed us some skills of drawing a lotus. We watched him carefully around him. Then each of us made an attempt to do it by ourselves under the careful instruction of him. Finally, because of m y excellent performance, I was awarded “Outstanding Young Artist”. Looking at the award, I felt very excited.

Through this experience, we are all amazed at Chinese painting and proud of being Chinese. We hope we can have more activities of this kind in the future!
