因英语实际应用的需要，大学英语教学和测试也应因时作出切合实际的调整。非英语专业学生的英语教学和测试应该有一定难度同时又符合学生的实际英语能力，这种标准需要在实际教学内容和实践中总结和探索。本文阐述大学英语一年级非英语专业学生的口语课教学内容，口语考试的题目设计和评分标准的可信度。
口语课采用的教材是朗文英语口语听说教程，共三本，两个学期完成。每周一次口语课，100分钟，按照教材每个单元的口语练习过程进行。讲义对各个练习的时间分配有较为严格的控制，确保教学任务能够顺利完成。教材每个单元都有一个中心话题，供学生自我操练和结伴进行口语对话练习。教材词汇不多，语法结构较少，输入不多。实际教学证明，即使教师给出更多的习语和固定结构，也不能保证每个学生都能够运用到实际当中。英语语言能力正在从听说读写等方面的划分逐步转向知识能力和知识结构的结合与应
