1.Describe a famous historical figure from your home country.

?What are they known for?

?Do you admire them?

Li Bai is the most famous historical figure from my hometown who was one of the greatest poets of the Tang Dynasty. He is also one of the most famous and well respected poets of the era. The Tang era was a golden age of Chinese poetry, and Li Bai’s works made up a major part of this. A large number of poems from this period still survive today, and they have been translated into many languages all over the world. Besides, Li Bai was a romantic in his view of life and in his verse. As one of the most famous wine drinkers, Li Bai frequently celebrated the joy of drinking. He also wrote of friendship, solitude, the passage of time, and the joys of nature with brilliance and great freshness of imagination. I really admire him for his talents and his attitude for life.

1.Describe an important letter that you received.

?Who wrote it to you?

?What was the letter about?

?How did it make you feel?

It was a few weeks ago, when I was at home watching TV with my family, I got a notification on phone which said I had received a college acceptance letter from my dream school. At the beginning, I was too excited to believe it was true, so I was just sitting on sofa with a numb facial expression. A while later, my family all noticed my unusualness, so they asked me whether something awful happened. I was not in the mood to answer their questions, because

I was completely focused on reading that letter repeatedly to ensure

that I didn’t miss any details in it, even though it was basically just

saying I was accepted by the school and informing me of how to

register.

2 weeks ago, I sent my best friend a bottle of perfume as a gift for

her birthday. At the beginning, I was very confused about what to get for her, as she is a very independent and hard-working person that she can afford anything she wants. I felt it was really hard to surprise her. However, just a week ago when we were having dinner together talking about our new hobbies, she mentioned that she was collecting perfumes, so I was inspired and decided to buy her some unique perfume. After that, I started searching for perfumes in shopping malls, but basically all perfumes are hot products which definitely are not special enough. So I gave that up and turned to

online shops, and fortunately found one that’s not only special

enough but also suits her much. I bought that one and she was very delighted with the gift.

My favorite restaurant is a Sichuan restaurant near Gulou Street in Beijing, which is not very high-end but relatively down-to-earth and affordable. The first time I went there was about a year ago, when a friend was planning to celebrate her birthday, we chose to go there and have a big meal.

To be honest, when I first saw the restaurant from outside, I didn't have much expectation for the dishes it could provide, because its decoration looked rather simple, even crude. But after the first bite, my view of it have changed completely. This Sichuan restaurant makes very authentic Sichuan food. My favorite dish there is fried chicken with chili. The chicken is very tender and the flavor is super rich at the same time.

Since then, I’d go there two or three times a month. It has even become one of my habits.

1.Talk about a well-balanced diet.

?What kinds of food are part of a healthy diet?

?Why is it important to eat a well-balanced diet?

?Do you have a well-balanced diet?

I sometimes have a well-balanced diet, but I’m not super disciplined.

Actually, planning a well-balanced diet isn't difficult as long as each

meal and snack have some protein, fiber, complex carbohydrates and

a little bit of fat. Eating breakfast will help us start our day with

plenty of energy. Instead of ruining the breakfast with high-fat and high-calorie foods, some protein and fiber for breakfast would be

better. Lunch is often something we eat at work or school, it’s pleasant to pack a sandwich or leftovers. We should keep it low in

calories and eat just enough to keep us from feeling too hungry.

Dinner is a time when it's easy to over-eat, so we need to watch our portion sizes, mentally divide the plate into four quarters. One is for meat or protein source, one is for a starch, and the last two are for

green and colorful vegetables or a green salad.

2.Describe your favorite subject in school.

My favorite subject is math which makes lots of people suffer. I have studied it for many years, basically since kindergarten or primary school. I like math the most is mainly because that it is a very practical subject. Firstly, we can always benefit from it in our life. learning math enabled me to do mental calculation, so it’s very convenient for me when managing my money and shopping. Besides, I can gradually form a logical thinking by learning logic, which helps me to make decisions based on factual data rather than emotions. What’s more, I can have spatial thinking by learning and geometry, so that I can always tell the directions even when I’m in a complete strange city.

4.Describe an important tradition in your country.

?Who participates in this tradition?

?Is it important to preserve traditions?

Since the history of China is super long and rich, we basically have

countless traditions. One of the most important traditions is what

usually happens during the Spring Festival. No matter how far we

are away, we always go back to our family for the Chinese New Year Eve. We'd have a feast in that evening while watching the New Year Gala on TV. Besides, every dish in that feast has its special meaning.

For example, we must eat fish that day, because in Chinese, fish is

pronounced as YU which sounds like “surplus”, that’s a good wish for the coming new year, meaning that the family would make more than enough money. In my opinion, it's very important to preserve traditions, because keeping traditions alive is vital for teaching the next generation about a particular or shared past. What's more, traditions are usually related to one's nationality or religion, so it can help us remember where we are from and who we are.

A few years ago, I had to work with an experienced salesman in my

company for a promotion activity. Working with him was

extremely challenging to me because he had a caustic style and

often spoke in a pejorative way. He seemed to scoff at any idea on

our project. So, at that time, I nearly ran out of patience with him

that I was on the verge of giving up, but I was a new staff, I needed

some achievements to prove my ability to my team, so I decided to

try my best to please him so that we could have satisfying result of

our work. I asked around for advice and was told that he didn’t like

to be told to do anything, as he was basically a narcissist. Then i

tried to always put him in the plan-making place and this strategy

really pleased him and then our work could be smoothly finished.

I’d like to talk about an interesting conversation that I heard a couple of weeks ago in a music instrument shop. When I was looking around in the shop, I heard a conversation between a shop assistant

and a customer. The customer wondered what the differences were between the various acoustic guitars on show. The assistant talked

to him about the different makes and models, whether they were factory or hand-made, the woods and varnishes used, the variation in sound quality, and of course the price range. I found the

conversation pretty fascinating, because the shop assistant was surprisingly knowledgeable. It was obvious that he had a passion for the guitar, and he didn’t mind talking to someone even though they

didn’t intend to buy anything.

1.Discuss the power of greed.

?What makes people greedy?

?How can we mitigate the effects of greed on others?

?Will greed continue to be an influence on people in the future?

Greed often arises from early negative experiences such as parental absence, inconsistency, or neglect. In later life, feelings of anxiety and vulnerability, often combined with low self-esteem, lead the person to fixate on a substitute for the love and security that he or

she so sorely lacked. Having acquired one thing, they immediately set their sights on the next thing that suggests itself. Today, the object of desire is no longer satisfaction but desire itself. We all know that greed can destroy a person, but it also has some positive influence.

One theory of greed is that it is programmed into our genes because, in the course of evolution, it has tended to promote survival and reproduction. Without some measure of greed, individuals and communities are more likely to run out of resources, and to lack the means and motivation to innovate and achieve, making them more vulnerable to the vagaries of fate and the designs of their enemies.

?Why is it important to stay within a budget?

?Who needs a budget?

?Do you have a personal budget?

If we've created a budget, we know exactly how much money we

have coming in, and how much is going out. we can make some

plans concerning that big expense. But if we don't have a budget

plan, we probably don't have a very good picture of our finances,

and we may be tempted to borrow more money rather than squeezing all we can from our income. It's definitely better in the long run -- for us and for our money -- to have a budget. I personally have a budget too. But always being practical, careful and responsible can be overwhelming, so creating a budget can be a frustrating task for me, and staying on budget can be even harder.

3.Discuss why people daydream.

?What might people daydream about?

?What might make a person daydream?

?Is daydreaming a problem?

?Why or why not?

In daydreams, people have total control of what happens. They are

the producer, writer, director and often the star of the daydream.

Daydreaming is an enjoyable but distracting activity especially because it intrudes on the time when people should be doing

something else such as work, or studying. The reason for daydreaming perhaps is that the task is not interesting for people.

They dream of being more wealthy or popular so they do not need to do what they are doing currently ever again. However, if they are too addicted to it that they don't even have any motivation for

making efforts in their real life, daydreaming is definitely influencing them negatively. If people consider daydreaming as a relaxation to gain more motivation and to get back to work more

positively, it’s not a problem at all.
