Nowadays, it seems known to everybody that one of the objectives of China’s modern construction is to build a harmonious society. All of a sudden, “a harmonious society”has become a frequently-used phrase in media news, newspaper etc. It is the trend of China’s development.

But what is a harmonious society? In my mind, there are several aspects included in building a harmonious society. First, a harmonious society has democracy in its politics to ensure the maximum benefits of the people. Second, a harmonious society has equality and justice to protect the rights of every citizen. Third, a harmonious society has good faith and friendly relation between people to create a favorable atmosphere for living and doing business. Forth, a harmonious society has energy to make sure its creativity. Fifth, a harmonious society has stability and order to provide people with a comfortable environment. Sixth, a harmonious society has harmony between humankind and nature for a sustainable development of economy.

To be true, it needs joint efforts of every person in China to realize this great goal. For me, I am a student in college. What I can do is to develop good relations with people around me, help others as much as possible, spread this awareness to as many people as possible, laying a foundation for this tall building.

11. M: Do you know anyone who has a spare

bookshelf? I just don’t know where

to put my newly-borrowed reference

materials.

W: Have you checked with Marsha?

Q: What does the woman suggest the man do? Do you know anyone who has a spare bookshelf?(你知道谁有多余的书架吗?),女士回答说Have you checked with Marsha?,即女士建议男士问Marsha有没有多余的书架,故答案为[D]。

12. M: Has anything important come up yet?

W: Yes, Mr. Smith called about fifteen minutes ago. He asked me to have

you call him between 10:30 and

12:00 if it’s convenient for you,

otherwise he will call back this

afternoon. I take down his phone

number on your memo pad.

Q: What can we infer from the conversation? Mr. Smith called about fifteen minutes ago. He asked me to have you call him…,即史密斯先生15分钟前打过电话,让男士给他打电话,由此可知,男士可能会给史密斯先生回电话,故答案为[B]。

13. W: It’s good to see you ag ain. What are

you doing these days? You’re still

working at the same place, aren’t

you?

M: Yes, I am. And I’m counting the days until retirement.

Q: What can we learn about the man? He loves/is about to等可知,男士的话为听音重点。

I’m counting the days until retirement(我在数还有多少天退休)。

14. M: Honey, you’ve got to drink lots of

water. It will wash away the infection

in your eyes. And also you should

avoid using computers.

W: I have been doing that all day and I feel much better.

Q: Why does the woman drink so much water? She suffers from, don’t feel comfortable等表明,对话可能与女士身体不适有关。

[B]项中的her eyes don’t feel comfortable是对the infection in your eyes的同义转述,故答案为[B]。

15. W: Prof. Thomson helped me so much

book of poetry.

M: I think you should get him a music CD. Just because he’s an English

teacher doesn’t mean that all he does

is read.

Q: What does the man mean?

Just because he’s an English teacher doesn’t mean that all he does is read.(不能因为他是位英语老师,就觉得他的所有喜好都是读书),[B]项正是对该句的同义转述,故答案为[B]。

16. M: I cannot hear you clearly. It seems

that you are whispering. You see, I

have to press the receiver so hard

against my ear to catch your voice.

W: The phone has served us for 5 years. I am really reluctant to throw it away.

Q: What are the two speakers doing?

【解析】选[A]。 I cannot hear you clearly…I have to press the receiver so hard against my ear to catch your voice.,根据hear和receiver(电话听筒) 可判断,男士和女士正在通电话,故答案为[A]。

17. W: Oh, I’m nearly driven mad. Are you

up to helping me with the economics

assignment?

M: I’ve already looked at it, but it’s over my head.

18. W: You wanted to see me, Mr. Wright?

M: Yes, Miss Gray. You’ll have to start getting to work on time, or your

service will no longer be needed here.

Q: What happened to Miss Gray?

You’ll have to start getting to work on time, or…(你必须要开始准时上班,否则…),由此可知,女士原来迟到过,现在被男士警告,故答案为[C]。

Now you will hear the two long conversations.

W: Hello, Dr. Christianson.

M: Hello, Cathy, what can I do for you?

W: Well, I need an extension for my report on whales. Next Wednesday I am supposed to present in class and hand my report in, but I won’t be ready.

M: You had six weeks to work on this, and I have a policy of penalizing heavily for late assignments. You lose 20% the first day, and 10% for each day after.

W: Well, my computer broke down and I lost everything. I have taken the computer into the Campus Computer Center but they cannot retrieve any of my files.

M: I can sympathize with the computer issue, because it happened to me once when I was a student. My computer crashed just as I was on the last page of a 10,000-word essay. I assume Questions 19 to 22 are based on the conversation you have just heard.

19. What does the woman want the man to

do?

I need an extension for my report…but I

20. What kind of policy does the professor

have for assignments?

【解析】选[D]。根据对话中男士提到的…I have a policy of penal izing heavily for late assignments. You lose 20% the first day, and 10% for each day after可

this will be a lesson to you.

W: Oh yes.

M: Well, let’s look at the calendar and see if there is another opportunity for your presentation and report.

W: What about on November 29th?

M: Let me see, no, that wouldn’t work, as Jane Clark is doing her presentation that day.

W: I’m not sure I can get it finished much sooner as

I have to start writing the report from scratch. M: Well, perhaps I can allow you to hand in your report on November 29th, but the presentation must be sooner. Looking at my calendar, the only possible day would be November 22nd.

Rob Metcalf was supposed to present that day but I understand he was in a serious car accident and had to withdraw from university.

W: I didn’t know that.

M: So, we have arranged for you to present on November 22nd, and hand in your report on November 29th.

W: Thanks again, Dr. Christianson.

【点睛】问题中的policy是听音关键,a policy of penalizing heavily for late assignments表明教授对迟交论文的处

21. What was the professor’s attitude

towards the student’s problem?

【解析】选[A]。

I can sympathize with the computer issue可

22. What happened to Rob Metcalf whose

turn can be replaced by the woman? 【解析】选[B]。由对话中提到的but…he was in a serious car accident可知,Rob Metcalf出了车祸,故答案为[B]。

W: Hi, Rex. How’s your history paper going?

M: It’s coming along. But I’ve been staring at this computer screen for hours and my eyes hurt. W: Yeah, doing that can make your eyes feel really dry and tired. You should take a break.

M: I can’t. I have to get this paper written. It’s due tomorrow.

W: You know, I read about computers and eye problems recently. The article says that they are usually caused by not blinking your eyes enough.

M: Blinking? I thought I just needed new glasses. W: When you blink, the movement of closing and opening your eyes, even though it happens really fast helps moisten your eyes. It’s the lack of moisture that causes the problem.

M: Oh, that makes sense. But what does it have to do with the computer?

W: People who use computers tend to stare at the monitor and blink less often than they normally would. That leads to dry irritated eyes. Questions 23 to 25 are based on the conversation you have just heard.

23. What are the speakers talking about?

24. Why is blinking important?

It gives eyes a break,It moistens/relaxes eyes等表明,本题考查It对眼睛的作用。 When you blink…helps moisten your eyes可知,答案为[C]。

M: Well, hope this news can help my eyes now.

They really hurt.

W: The article I read about office workers found that the workers averaged 22 blinks a minute when relaxed, but just 7 a minute while looking at text on a computer screen.

M: Wow, that’s quite a difference.

W: They also kept their eyes open wider, which means that moisture evaporated more quickly. M: I wonder if using some kind of eye drops would make them feel better.

W: That might help. But the best prescription is to take a break and rest your eyes.

M: OK. Let’s go to get some coffee. I can finish this later tonight.

It指代的是blinking eyes。

25. What should Rex do to improve his

situation?

【解析】选[A]。 But the best prescription is to take a break and rest your eyes可知,Rex应该休息一会,故答案为[A]。

Section B

Camp memories last forever! We make sure they are unforgettable!

Shadow Ridge Summer Camps offer so many exciting things for campers to do. Unlike the other camp programs that include horses as a small part of their program, at Shadow Ridge horses ARE the program! We are 100% horse from stable management, nature walks, and track rides to bedroom furnishings.

Horses help us achieve many of our aims. Girls can learn to develop responsibility, self-confidence and personal connections in their lives while having fun. Using horses as a wonderful tool for education, our camps offer an interesting place for growth and learning.

Imagine each girl having her very own horse to spend time with and a best friend to love and take care of. Each camper is responsible for a horse for the week. Our riding program provides a lot of riding and lesson time. Campers will learn how to take care of the horse and the tack, as well as how to ride. Days are filled with horse-related activities to strengthen the connection between each girl and horse, as the girls learn to work safely around the horses.

At Shadow Ridge we try to create a loving, caring family atmosphere for our campers. We have “The Bunkhouse” (4 girls), the “Wranglers Roost”

(4 girls), and “The Hideout” (2 girls) in our Questions 26 to 29 are based on the passage you have just heard.

26. What is the main purpose of the

passage?

【解析】选[A]。

27. What do we know about the camp

programs at Shadow Ridge?

【点睛】通过与其他夏令营进行对比来说明Shadow Ridge的主要活动项目是horses,[B] Horses play a central role in the activities.对应We are 100% horse。

28. What is the main aim of programs at

Shadow Ridge?

comfortable 177-year-old farm house. All meals are home-cooked, offering delicious and healthy food for the hungry rider.

Our excellent activities create personalized memories of your child’s vacation. Each child will receive a camp T-shirt and a photo album (usually 300-500 pictures) of their stay at camp.

Our camps are offered during June, July and August 2007, for small groups of girls aged 13-16 years, not only from Canada but also other parts of the world.

We will send you full program descriptions at your request.

[D]。

29. Who is the passage mainly written for?

My father died when I was nine months old, making my mom a single mother at the age of eighteen. While I was growing up, we lived a very hard life. We had little money, but my mom gave me a lot of love. Each night, she sat me on her lap and spoke the words that would change my life, “Kemmons, you are certain to be a great man and you can do anything in life if you work hard enough to get it.”

At fourteen, I was hit by a car and the doctors said I would never walk again. Every day, my mother spoke to me in her gentle, loving voice, telling me that no matter what those doctors said, I could walk again. She drove that message so deep into my heart that I finally believed her. A year later, I returned to school — walking on my own!

When the Great Depression hit, my mom lost her job. Then I left school to support the both of us. At that moment, I was determined never to be poor again.

Over the years, I experienced various levels of business success. But the real turning point occurred on a vacation I took with my wife and five kids in 1951. I was dissatisfied with the second-class hotels available for families and was angry that they charged me an extra $2 for each child. That was too expensive for the average American family. I told my wife that I was going to open a motel for families that would never charge extra for children. Questions 30 to 32 are based on the passage you have just heard.

30. What caused Kemmons to start a

motel by himself?

31. Which can best describe Kemmons’

mother?

32. What led to Kemmons’ success

There were plenty of doubters at that time.

Not surprisingly, mom was one of my strongest supporters. She worked behind the desk and even designed the room style. As in any business, we experienced a lot of challenges. But with my mother’s words deeply rooted in my soul, I never doubted we would succeed. Fifteen years later, we had the largest hotel system in the world — Holiday Inn. In 1979 my company had 1,759 inns in more than fifty countries with an income of $1 billion a year.

according to the passage?

At one time, computers were expected largely to remove the need for paper copies of documents because they could be stored electronically. But for all the texts that are written, stored and sent electronically, a lot of them are still ending up on paper.

It is difficult to measure the quantity of paper used as a result of use of Internet-connected computers, although just about anyone who works in an office can tell you that when e-mail is introduced, the printers start working overtime. “I feel in my bones this revolution is causing more trees to be cut down,” says Ted Smith of the Earth Village Organization.

Perhaps the best sign of how computer and Internet use pushes up demand for paper comes from the high-tech industry itself, which sees printing as one of its most promising new markets. Several Internet companies have been set up to help small businesses print quality documents from a computer. Earlier this week, Hewlett Packard company announced a plan to develop new technologies that will enable people to print even more so they can get a hard copy of a business document, a medical record or just a one-line e-mail, even if they are nowhere near a computer. As the company sees it, the more use of the Internet, the greater demand for printers.

Does all this mean environmental concerns have been forgotten? Some activists suggest people have been led to believe that a lot of dangers to the environment have gone away.

“I guess people beli eve that the problem is taken care of because of recycling,” said Kelly Quirke, director of the Rainforest Action Network in San Francisco. Yet Quirke is hopeful that high-tech Questions 33 to 35 are based on the passage you have just heard.

33. What is the growing demand for paper

in recent years largely due to?

Perhaps the best sign of how computer and Internet use pushes up demand for paper comes from the high-tech industry itself…

[C]。

【点睛】pushes up demand for paper与问题中的growing demand for paper对应。

34. What do environmentalists believe one

possible way of dealing with the paper situation?

The action group has also found acceptable paper made from materials other than wood可知,环境保护者相信改变用纸状况的一种可能的方法是找到新的造纸材料,故答案为[B]。

【点睛】other than意为“除了”。

35. Why has Hewlett Packard company

decided to develop new technologies? 【解析】选[A]。 As the company sees it, the more use of the Internet, the greater demand for printers可知,Hewlett Packard发展新技

may also prove helpful. He says printers that print on both sides are growing in popularity. The action group has also found acceptable paper made from materials other than wood, such as agricultural waste.

Although it’s evidence that this isn’t the case. While it seems ability us inherited, there’s abundant that at birth virtually everyone has perfect pitch, the reasons that one child is better than another are motivation and practice. Highly musical children were sung to more as infants and more encouraged to join in song games as kids than less musical ones, long before any musical ability could have been evident. Studies of classical musicians prove that the best ones practiced considerably more from childhood onwards than ordinary orchestral players, and this is because their parents were at them to put in the hours from a very young age. The same was true of children selected for entry to specialist music schools, compared with those who were rejected. The chosen children had parents who had very actively supervised music lessons and daily practice from young ages, giving up substantial periods of leisure time to take the children to lessons and concerts. The singer Michael Jackson’s story, although unusually brutal and extreme, is illumination when considering musical prodigy(天才). Accounts suggest that he was subjected to cruel beatings and emotional torture ,and that he was humiliated (羞辱) constantly by his father, What sets Jackson’s family apart is that his father used his reign of terror to train his children as musicians and dancers. On top of his extra ability Michael also had more drive. This may have been the result of being the closest of his brothers and sisters to his mother. “He seemed other said of him. Nowadays, with the explosion of population and boom of economy, human’s rel entless exploitation of natural resources has caused crisis of exhaustion of energy and resources. The remark “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.” gives out a warning for us all. The ecosystem has remained balanced until man becomes obsessed with their ambition to conquer Nature and they are blinded by greed. On one hand, they are so economy-oriented that they ignore the protection of environment. Increasing pollution not only causes serious problems such as global warming but also could threaten to end human life on our planet. On the other hand, man exploits and abuses non-renewable energy and resources for the sake of developing economy. If man insists on extracting natural resources recklessly, it will be too dreadful to face the consequence. 2017年6月大学英语六级考试真题及答案解析(第一套完整版)

2017年6月大学英语六级考试真题及答案解析(第一套完整版) Part I Writing (30 minutes) Directions: Suppose you are asked to give advice on whether to attend a vocational college or a university, write an essay to state your opinion. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words. Whether to Attend a Vocational College or a University? It’s an undisputable truth that virtually all high school graduates will encounter the choices between a vocational college and a university. And when it comes to this question, students’ ideas are not cut from the same cloth. In point of which to choose and what to be taken into consideration, my advices are as follow. In the first place, we should be conscious of the fact that both of the two choices have its own superiorities. For instance, a vocational college specializes in cultivating human resources with practical capabilities; while a university serves as the cradle of academic researchers in different fields. Then it does follow that high school graduates should have a clear picture of themselves. That is to say, they should know their merits and demerits and their choices must give play to their strengths whilst circumvent weaknesses. In addition, interest is the best teacher and it’s also the premise of learning on one’s own initiative. Thus interest must be taken into account because it can not only decide how far one can reach academically and professionally but also how happy and fulfilled one will be. In brief, all above just goes to show that there really is no one-size-fits-all answer for the question. The key lies in a clear cognition, accurate self-positioning and the interest of oneself. Only then can every one find a right path that works best for us. Part II Listening Comprehension (30 minutes) Section A Directions: In this section, you will hear two long conversations.
