If you’ve ever looked

at a computer screen for hours on end, you probably know what it feels like when your

eyes are tired and your head is tense.

What you are likely experiencing is digital eye strain (劳损). It could also lead to dry eyes. But are screens

criminals behind needing glasses? Not necessarily, according to Melanie Schmitt, an assistant professor at the

University of Wisconsin.

There has been an increase in cases of nearsightedness, but scientists don’t know if screens do t “Several other factors can cause the phenomenon of nearsightedness, one of which is too much time spent indoors.

Looking at a screen for too long can cause eye strain, but it doesn’t have any long lasting consequence says.

A recent study by researchers in Madrid did find that LED lights—those used in screens—contributed to

retina (视网膜) damage in the eyes of rats. However, more research is necessary to determine if the same effect

occurs in humans.

You’re sure to feel the consequence of not taking screen breaks throughout the day. In order not to have

digital eye strain, eye doctors say that you’d better take a 20-second break to look at something 20 feet away

every 20 minutes. It also works a little bit if you adjust your computer to remove a glare or use eye drops to keep

your eyes wet.

“I always tell patients and parents that come in to see me the importance of getting children outside to play

and be exposed in natural lighting,” Schmitt says. “This goes for adults, too. Going outside is an opportunity the eyes to rest from near-work and look at distance instead.”

24. What will happen if you fix your eyes on a computer screen too long?

A Song of Ice and Fire is a seven-part series of fantasy written for adults. George R. R. Martin writes each

chapter from the perspective of a specific character, providing a limited point of view for each section. The reader

is able to understand the inner workings of the individual, but the reader is barred from a whole understanding of

the text. The world he has created has magic, but there is much more than that. While magic exists, it exists on the

edge, and the inner unrest of the characters is much more important.

His work also has a level of realness that is astonishing in a work of fantasy. Characters are imperfect, and

many make questionable moral choices. In the end, however, Martin shows that both good and bad happen to both

the people of high moral standard and the corrupt. He has made it clear that any character can die at any point,

which has led to a lot of heartbreak from readers.

In 2011, A Song of Ice and Fire became a television series titled Game of Thrones. Martin has been closely involved with the production. It has currently run for seven seasons, and viewers anxiously await the eighth season to answer their questions from the season seven finale.

His fans are also waiting for The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, the next books in the series, to

answer the questions Martin and the television show have not yet addressed. Martin, however, has no plans to rush.

He has made it clear that he will continue to write the books while working on the television show and writing

other novels.

But how will the story continue? What is going to happen in Westeros, and more importantly: when are we

going to find out? Martinis skill as a writer has kept readers and viewers spellbound. Many hope he will finish the

next book before the next season of the show begins, but no one knows with Martin. He always keeps his readers guessing.

These subcultures were traditionally a way for young people to show their personalities to others. Walking

So,what was the reason behind these subcultures?

“On both sides of the Atlantic, more and more young disappointed teenagers were looking for an escape from

Despite this,Adams believes that today’s young people are still finding their own way to express

a lot easier to use themselves, but in a more modern way. “It’s

certainly happening online,”she said. “It’s

C. They are contemporary culture movements.

D. They were a way for youths to express themselves.

A. The easy access to music and clothing.

B. Young people’s desire for freedom and fun.

C. The political pressure young people suffered.

D. Young people’s longing for fame and wealth.

34. What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 6 probably refer to?

A. The faster and cheaper music.

B. The instant and low-priced fashion.

C. The disappearance of youth subcultures.

D. The availability of music and clothing.
