Li Yan, an engineer, was born on February 9, 1965 in Beijing, China. After he graduated from Qinghua University in 1987, he made an important decision in his life. He decided to go to the United States for his further study. After four years hard work, he mastered new management ideas an advanced technologies in computer field. In 1992, he got his doctors degree. In 20XX, he made another decision that to return to his motherland and started a company. However, his wife and daughter had got used to the American way of life, so they still stay in the United States. But they still can meet frequently, because of the convenient transportation, and his wife and daughter often visit him in holidays.

Born Guan Moye, the author writes under the pen name Mo Yan, which means don’t speak in Chinese。

Mo Yan was granted an honorary PhD of Arts by OUHK and was appointed guest professor at the Qingdao University of Technology. Relying on a series of countryliterary works, Mo’s claim to fame came in the 1980s when he established a reputation for being a so-called root-seeking writer. His works were strongly influenced by magical realism and told the tales of numerous legends which took place in Gaomi, Shandong Province. Mo isrenowned for his unique perceptions of reality, imaginative descriptions, de-familiarizationprocessing, mysticism and a pioneering style。

Born in America, Thomas Edison was a great scientist and inventor. He was once thought to be a boy who was not worth educating. In fact, he was a man full of imagination.

I admire Edison a lot because of his great contribution to the world. He had more than 1,000 inventions. In his lifetime, he was always eager to know how things worked, which helped him to earn the nickname"the Wizard of Melo Park".He was also so diligent that he worked day and night. And this explained why he had so many great inventions.

What impresses me most is his famous saying,"Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration."Probably I cannot be an Edison myself, but I can be a hard-working learner. From him, I realize the secret to success is not when or where you were born, but what you are doing and how you do it in your life.

My Mother isa kind and gentle woman. She is always very gentle. She takes good care of her children and keeps them all at school. I have one brother and two sistets. So she gets four children in all. She gives us every comfort. We all love her and she loves us also. My mother has too much to do in bringing us up. As our family is too poor to keep a servant, my mother has always to do very much work. She gets up very early and sleeps very late every day. She works hard, yet without complaining. She is also a thrifty, and industrious woman. She saves every cent that she can and keeps everything in order. As she has been busy eversince she was young, she looks older than she really is. Her face is wrinkled, her hair becomes silver white, but she works as hard as ever. Often she says to us, "work while you work, play while you play. If you do not work, you will become lazy and of no use to society." What piece of good advice this is! We must worth it well and always keep it in our mind.

Working Hard Is Important

Ladies and Gentle men. I am honored to deliver a speech here about the importance of working hard.

Diligence is vital to our success in the society, as it sharpens the skill you needed to be success and it helps you to stand out in the crowd. When I was in grade 10, I did not work hard, because I thought school was easy and I didnt have to work hard to get a good grades. I thought I was quite a genius indeed. However, when I entered grade 11, things start getting more and more difficult, and I started to acquire the habit of hard-woking by doing my homework every night, and preview school materials before school starts. Quite surprisingly, not only did I pass those difficult course, but also got a decent mark.

Therefore, hard woking is the way to discover what your potentials are and use them to your benefit. I would continue to work diligently and hopefully to achieve
