If you have posted a video of your favorite recipe on the popular web site YouTube, chances are that it will be tried by a robot.

University of Maryland professor Yiannis Aloimonos, who leads a team that is trying to teach a robot how to reproduce simple tasks by watching

videos, said "there exists a large amount of video information on the Internet that we can employ and use our robots in order to learn.”

So far, the robot named Julia can pour ingredients, add dressing (调料)and stir(搅拌)a simple salad. It learns by breaking each task into basic parts, such as grasping a spoon, bringing it to the bowl, stirring the salad and observing the results.

As Julia can see, hear and remember things and then bine those parts to carry out certain tasks, Aloimonos said the project amounts to integration of all those capabilities.

But why teach a robot how to understand a video when it can easily follow a fixed program? Aloimonos said predetermined instructions lack flexibility.

“You have a system that is done just for this particular task. And so, it can’t generalize," he said. "You cannot take it and put it into a different environment. It is not flexible.”

Aloimonos said one of the problems the researchers are trying to solve is how to make the robot understand and use what it learns during the performance of a certain task, the so-called feedback. Another problem, he says, will be the introduction of language.

“I believe it will take quite some time before the robots are able to understand metaphorical (比喻性的) language like the unbearable lightness of being,” he added.

A. Robot learning

B. Robot learning to cook

C. Robot performing different tasks

D. Robot speaking to humans

58. What is the disadvantage of the old robot system pared with the new robot system?

A. It lacks proper programs.

B. It lacks flexibility.

C. It can work well in different environments.

D. It can not cook.

59.We can infer from the text that __________.

A. the new robot system is far from perfect

B. the new robot system is not necessary at all

C. the new robot system can not understand metaphorical language.

NAIROBI— On the University of Nairobi campus, talent is on sale.

Signs advertise for researchers or online writers — code words for those writing essays for paying students at universities around the world.

Aggrey Isoe has been in the business since xx. As a freelancer(自由作者), he can work wherever he wants. He gets his assignments through

websites that post requests from students around the world.

Isoe said he's written assignments for undergrads, master's students — even the occasional Ph.D.

“The topics are broad — social sciences; the sciences, especially biology; law, business, marketing, psychology, sociology,” he said.

The work calls for a degree of creativity. Isoe once had to write a first-person experience for a student trying to get into a nursing program in California.

“Actually, you have to put yourself into h is or her shoes and be creative," he said. "In fact, the client was from India and she had to give reasons why she had to leave all the schools in India to e to that particular institution.”

Writers can find assignments on certain subjects. On one site registered in Kenya, a writer was being sought to turn out an undergraduate level essay in chemistry, eight pages long and due in 30 days. For that, the writer could earn a little over $90.

While the Kenyan students are doing nothing illegal in writing for pay, their clients are violating one of the first rules of academic integrity. Students caught using such a service would probably face serious consequences at most universities.

Pauline Chepkwony, a University of Nairobi graduate with an undergraduate degree in sociology and a master's degree in international affairs, is a former academic writer. She struggled with the ethics(伦理)of doing this type of work.

“If you look at it from a moral or ethical perspective, it’s kind of ... it’s not right,” she said.

But she said the pay was good, and in the end the work helped her to be better at her own studies.

Writers in Kenya say the business is booming — a sign that clients abroad are increasingly outsourcing(外包)their work to talented students who are truly finding African solutions to Western problems.

60.From the passage we can infer that __________.

A. African students are more gifted than American students

B. American students are more creative than African students

C. some African university students write papers for students across

the world in order to 子earn money

D. nobody but African students can write academic papers

61.Which of the following is not mentioned about Aggrey Isoe in the text?

A. He is a freelancer.

B .He gets his assignments through websites.

C. His writing topics are very broad.

D. He will go to California to study a nursing program.

62.What do we know about Pauline Chepkwony?

A. She is now writing papers for pay.

B. She was once an academic writer for pay.

C. She had none of the ethics of writing papers for others.

D. Her main goal is to improve her own studies.

63.The best title of the passage is_______.

A. Writing for pay

B. Writing for academy

C. Writing is booming

D. Illegal writing

Sixteen years ago, Eileen Doyle’s husband, an e ngineer, took his four children up for an early morning cup of tea, packed a small case and was never seen or heard from again. Eileen was astonished and in a state of despair. They had been a happy family and, as far as she knew, there had been nothing wrong with their marriage.

Every day of the year a small group of men and women quietly pack a few belongings and, without so much as a note or a good-bye, close the front door for the last time, leaving their debts, their worries and their confused families behind them. Last year, more than 1,200 men and nearly as many women were reported missing from home —the highest in 15 years. Many did return home within a year, but others rejected the past pletely and are now living a new life somewhere under a different identity.

To those left behind this form of desertion is a terrible blow to their pride and self-confidence. Even the finality of death might be preferable. At least it does not imply rejection or failure. Worse than that, people can be left with an unfinished marriage, not knowing whether they will have to wait seven years before they are free to start a fresh life.

Clinical psychologist Paul Brown believes most departures of this kind to be well planned rather than impulsive. “It’s typical of the kind of personality which seems able to ignore other people’s pain and

difficulties. Running away, like killing yourself, is a highly aggressive act. By creating an absence the people left behind feel guilty, upset and empty.”

64. Eileen Doyle reacted that way after her husband’s leaving, because she________.

A. failed to hear from him for a long time

B. had no idea what was wrong with their family life

C. blamed herself for something wrong she did

D. wondered why her husband took up all their children

65. According to the passage, those people left their families behind for

the following reasons EXCEPT that_________.

A. they couldn’t bear their spouse (配偶)

B. they were afraid of the burden of debts

C. they wanted to forget the past pletely

D. they wanted to start a new life somewhere else

66. The man or woman left behind with an unfinished marriage usually ________.

A. admits their responsibility for the situation

B. feels embarrassed and useless

C. will have no legal marriage life for seven years

D. wishes the person who has left were dead

67. What’s the author’s attitude towards the departures of this kind?

A. Objective.

B. Supportive.

C. Negative.

D. Positive.

They say that sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you. Yet childhood bullying (欺凌) really can damage your long-term health. Gone are the days when bullying was considered an unavoidable and finally harmless part of growing up — just last month we learned that childhood bullying can lead to poorer mental health even into middle age.

Now William Copeland at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and his colleagues have shown that it can have lasting physiological effects too. They tracked 1,420 nine-year-olds right through their teens. Each child was seen up to nine times during the study and asked about bullying. The team then measured levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) in their blood. CRP is a marker of inflammation (炎症) linked to higher risk of cardiovascular disease (心血管疾病) and problems like diabetes. “Because w e were collecting biological samples throughout, we were able to look at CRP levels in subjects prior to their bullying involvement.” says Copeland. “This really gives us an idea of the changes bullying brings about.”

Although CRP levels naturally rise in everyone during adolescence, levels were highest in children who reported suffering from bullies. Even at the ages of 19 and 21, children who had once been bullied had CRP levels about 1.4 times higher than peers who were neither wrongdoers nor victims. In a cruel twist, the bullies had the lowest levels of all, suggesting

they didn’t suffer the same health risks. They may even see a benefit from their behavior, though Copeland stresses it doesn’t defend their actions. “The goal would instead be to find oth er ways to produce this protective effect without it being at someone else’s expense.” he says.

Andrea Danese at King’s College London has before shown that ill-treatment during childhood can lead to high levels of inflammation in adult life. “This new stu dy is a helpful addition in showing that these effects extend to another important childhood stressor.” he says. He suggests that care workers monitor levels of CRP in children having psychotherapy(心理治疗) to see if it is helping to reduce the stress of being bullied.

68. What do you know about CRP?

A. It relates directly to diabetes.

B. It is a sign of the inflammation.

C. It is a sign of cardiovascular disease.

D. It is a sign of physiological effects caused by bullying.

69. What does the phrase “prior to” in Para.2 mean?

A. through

B. during

C. after

D. before

70. What can be learned from Para. 3?

A. CRP levels naturally rise along with the increase of age.

B. The bullies are not to blame for the health risks of the bullied.

C. The levels of CRP of the children once bullied are higher than their peers.

D. Copeland intends to defend the benefit of the bullies’ actions.

71. What does Andrea Danese think about childhood ill-treatment?

A. Copeland’s study shows nothing related to it.

B. It doesn’t have much to do with inflammation in adult life.

C. The stress of being bullied is reduced through psychotherapy.

D. Psychological treatment might help solve the problem caused by ill-treatment.

Dyslexia is a learning disorder, it interferes with the ability to recognize words, and for some readers to understand what they have read. Experts say dyslexia affects about five to ten percent of the population of the United States. Researchers have long known that people with dyslexia write or read words and lettersbackwards in the wrong order.

But a new study shows that people with dyslexia may have trouble redirecting their attention between senses, from seeing something to hearing something. The study suggests something that might help dyslexicpeople learn more quickly - play video games.

Vanessa Harrar of Britain’s University of Oxford led the study. She reported the findings in the journalCurrent Biology. The study suggests that dyslexic people may have trouble moving quickly from what they read to what they hear.

In the study, Doctor Harrar tested 17 people with dyslexia, and 19 others without reading problems. The volunteers were asked to push a button as quickly as possible when they heard a sound, saw a light or

(4)in that 35 1 which 33 1 whichever 30 1 where 28 1 交际用语如何应答21 1 其中22、27、35的错误率较高。
