Animals Need Protecting

Animals are natural resources that people have wasted all through our history. Animals have been killed for their fur and feathers, for food, for sport, and simply because they were in the way. Thousands of

kinds of animals have disappeared from the earth forever. Hundreds more are on the danger list today.

About 170 kinds in the United States alone are considered in danger.

Why should people care? Because we need animals,

and because once they are gone, there will never be any more. Animals are more than just beautiful or interesting. They are more than just a source of food.

Every animal has its place in the balance of nature.

Destroying one kind of animal can create many problems. For example, when farmers killed large numbers of hawks, the farmers' stores of corn and grain were destroyed

by rats and mice. Why? B ecause hawks eat rats and mice, with no hawks to keep down their numbers, the rats and

mice multiplied quickly.

Luckily, some people are working to help save the animals. Some groups raise money to let people know

about the problem. And they try to get the governments

to pass laws protecting animals in danger. Quite a few

countries have passed laws. These laws forbid the killing of any animal or planton the danger list. Slowly, the number of some animals in danger is growing.

动物是自然资源，在整个历史过程中，人类一直在糟蹋

着这种资源。人们杀死动物，获得它们的皮毛，把它们当作

食物或运动方式，或者只是因为它们碍事。成千上万种动物

为什么人们应该感到担忧呢?因为我们需要动物，因为

它们一旦消失，就永远不会再出现。动物不仅仅是漂亮或有

趣。它们不仅仅是人类的食物来源。在维持自然平衡中，每

种动物都有其作用。毁灭某种动物会导致许多问题。比如，

农民们如果杀死为数众多的鹰，他们谷物和粮食的仓库就会

受到老鼠和田鼠的破坏。为什么?因为鹰吃鼠类，没有鹰控

制它们的数量，鼠类就会迅速繁殖。

幸运的是，有些人正在努力帮助拯救这些动物。有些组

织筹钱以便人们了解这一问题。他们也努力使政府通过保护

濒危动物的法律。很多国家已经通过了法律。这些法

律禁止杀害濒危名单上的动植物。某些濒危动物的数目

正在慢慢地不断上升。

Save the Wild Animals

Many wild animals are facing the danger of extinction, because the environment that they are living in has changed greatly. For example, with the

developmet of cities, the using of insecticide and serious pollution, their living areas have become narrowcr and narrower. Many of the wild animals, now

are confronted with food crisis. At the same time, man

is killing off species just for getting their fur, skin, horns, teeth and meat.

In order to protect our resources of ecology, people should realize that the loss of any species is

at least the loss of source of knowledge and a source

of natural beauty. There fore, measures of the

following should be taken: pollution standards are made to keepdown poisons; killing off certain rare species

is prohibited; national parks should be set up as wild

life, reserves.

Only if we human beings take some drastic measures can wild animals be preserved.

保护野生动物

许多野生动物正面临绝种的危险，因为它们生活的环境

发生了极大的变化。譬如，随着城市的发展，杀虫剂的使

用和严重的污染，野生动物的生活区域变得越来越狭小。许

多野生动物目前正面临着食物方面的危机。同时，为了获取

野生动物的毛、皮、角、牙齿和肉，人类正在屠杀野生动物。

为了保护生态资源，人们应当意识到任何物种的缺失，

至少意味着知识资源和自然美的缺失。因此，应采取以下措

施：制订污染标准以降低有毒物质；严禁杀害某些稀有物种；

应建立国家公园作为野生动植物保护区。

我们只有采取一些有力措施，才能保护野生动物。

June 23rd Sunday Sunny

It was very fine today. It was neither too hot

nor too cold.He Song and I went to Beijing Zoo in the

morning. The animals were so interesting that everyone

liked them very much.

We watched the bears for a long time. They were

really lovely. One of them was standing and opening the mouth. Another of them was sitting on the ground and

waving its arm like saying hello to us. The other two

guys were boxing. We h ad a good laugh at it. But at that time I saw a visitor throwing food to them. I ran up

to him and stopped him, because some of the animals had been hurt by the food given by visitors.

All the animals are our friends. Take good care

of them if we really love them.

今天天气非常好，既不冷也不热。贺松和我去了北京动

物园。动物们是那么可爱，大家都非常喜欢它们。

我们看了很长时间熊，它们太可爱了。其中一只站起采，张着大嘴；另一只正坐在地上挥动着它的胳膊，好像在对我

们说你好。那边有两只正在练拳击，这让我们笑了个够。但

是，那时我看见一个游客朝那些熊投喂食物，我马上跑过去

制止他。因为以前就有一些动物被游客投喂的东西伤害过。

所有的动物都是我们的朋友，如果我们真正喜欢它们，
