1. Do you have a hobby? Can you tell us som ething about it? What do like to do in your spar e tim e?

I hav e many h obbies, su ch as playing football, going fishing, climbing mountains and so on, and the one that I like best is playing football. When I play football with others I can make friends with those who come from different departments. Meanwhile I can learn how to forgive oth ers? mistakes during the match, which will help me to become more en durable in the daily life. Besides, I can practice my ability to work efficiently with my fellows, because it seems th at we can win the game only if we can work tog ether in a powerful team. In a word, I can reap the great benefits of this h obby.

During my spare time, I would like to go to the library. I can learn other subjects in there so th at I can improve my knowledge structure, which will provide me with a better chance to find a g ood job in the future. What?s more, I can get more referen ces about my major, and by this way I can also make my major i mproved greatly.

2. What’s your major? Why do you choose it?

My major is legal science which is also my favorite major. In this field, we are able to learn a lot of knowledge. Th ere are many subjects we have to learn, such as Criminal Procedure Law, Civil Law, Law of Civil Procedure, General Rules of the Civil Law, Marriage Law, Internation al Law, Jurisprudence, philosophy, logic, history, politics an d so f orth..

The following is the reasons why I choose it:

First of all, I am interested in my major, I love watching the TV prog rams about laws since I was in the middle school an d it expands my horizons. Stu dying this major makes me kn ow how to become a useful, helpful and happy person, for very day, you are ready to help others which makes you feel so happy th at you find you have made your value come true .

In addition, our society is in a great need of the skilled workers an d ex perts in laws, because our country dev elops v ery rapidly an d we need law to maintain peace an d order, to protect th e rights of citizens, to secure justice, to punish wrong-doers an d to make our good laws be applied justly no matter what cases might be. Therefore, it is significant to take legal course to make contributions to th e development of our socialist undertakings. Last but n ot least, as far as I am concerned, it?s g ood for my future career. I think I?ll have a good job in th e future. I will become a lawyer th ough the stu dying my major, which can make me earn lots of money. So I choose legal science as my major. An d I think my choice is right. And most important, it will lead me to live a happy an d wealthy life.

3. How do you like univer sity life? Which aspect of univer sity life do you find most inter esting (stimulating /challenging /exciting /enjoyable)?

With the ex pectation of th e university, I came to Xinyang Normal University. I love this university at th e sight of her, an d I think the university life is colorful, stimulating, ex citing, enjoyable, interesting, meaningful, and so on. Most important of all, I find college English class is most ex citing for me.

First of all, college English class is stu dent-centered an d only speaking English. In middle and high schools, English classes were teach er-centered and bi-lingual, English teachers ex plained English grammars an d n ew words in Chinese from th e beginning to th e end of each class, an d we had little chance to speak English even in class. Howev er, h ere English teachers give speeches in English, and we stu dents are required to answer some

questions, discuss some topics, an d exch ange our ideas, etc. only in English in class. I h ave to practice my spoken English as often as possible, day after day, now I find I can state my opinions clearly in spoken English in public. How pride I feel!

Secondly, college English class is more interesting and full of activities, su ch as role-playing, English competitions about telling stories, jokes or tongue twisting. Stu dents are active to take part in all of these class activities to show their abilities and dev elop th eir hobbies. We come to class not only for kn owledge but also for fun. How happy I am!

In all, college English class is completely different from those in middle and high schools, it?s so exciting and I do love it. I bet I will improve my English and achieve more h ere.

4. Ar e you satisfied with your pr esent accommodations? Give your r easons.

What kind of accommodations would you like to have?

From my point view, I?m quite satisfied with ou r accommodation. My dormitory room faces south and has a lot of sunshine in fine weather. It also has a very good view of th e garden in front of the building and the mountains in the distan ce. It makes me feel good when I look the lov ely grass, flowers an d trees in th e garden. The color of the mountains changes with different seasons and in different weath er. I really enjoy watching the view from my room.

But there are some aspects n eed to be improv ed. Above all, our dormitory is n ot big enough. When every body is in the room, th ere simply is not en ough space for us to move around. And with six people in it, there isn?t much privacy for anyone.

We ev en don?t have a washroom in it .So it?s not convenient for us, especially in winter and summer. An d the water an d electricity su pply are u sually cut off for some unclear reasons. Every day we h ave to g o to bed before half past ten. Th at? too early! S o we are restricted to do wh at we need to do after ten thirty. In a word, our canteens are quite good. First of all, the food is quite cheap an d the services meet most of our needs. But some canteens are so small that h ave to wait in line to get our food.

In my opinion, a good stu dent apartment sh ould hav e a relatively large living room an d three or fou r small single bedrooms. This design will provide enough space for meetings and gatherings while at th e same time give each student his or h er own room. It sh ould have a washroom and we should h ave water and electricity supply all day long. And we also can g et our food without waiting in line.

In my university, students have different types of accommodation depen ding on th eir statu s.

Underg raduate stu dents generally share dormitory rooms six to a room, and master?s students four to a room. New apartment houses are also av ailable to stu dents who pay an additional rent.

5. What job do you think is the best for you after you graduate?

I think the best job for me is to be a teacher after gradu ation. When I was a child, I h ad dreamed to be a high sch ool teacher. Now I can come to Xinyang Normal University to receive further education an d I major in Study of History. It looks like th at my dream will come true in the n ear future.

As a teacher, I can give wh at I have learnt to my students, wh o will make contributions to our society. Thinking about it, I will be very proud of being a teach er. And, what?s more, I can become an a ctor just on the small platform in the front of the classroom, which will make my life much colorful. An d then, what mostly makes me ch oose to be a teach er is th at I can share some n ew ideas with the young people, and by this way I will be young forever in my mind.

6. What is your most important consider ation when looking for a j ob?

Actually, many factors contribute to job satisfaction, such as a high salary, good promotion prospects, pleasant an d friendly working atmosph ere, suitability for on e?s prof essional talents, and personal interests etc. For many people, mon ey or good promotion prospects may be their most important consideration when looking a job; but as for me, what is important is to do something that I enjoy. I h ear stories all the time about people who change their jobs because they realize that they don?t like them after th ey hav e started. If y ou don?t like what y ou?re doing, you are going to be miserable. You cann?t make the best use of your talents and you will get nowhere in y our work. S o when ch oosing a job, I think, we?d better make sure th at we know where our interest lies, only by doing so, can we do very well in our work and enjoy our work most.

7. What kind of activities do you take part in during your fr ee tim e?

Many students may feel that college life is boring. They do not know how to deal with plenty of spare time. But I think th e college life will become won derful as long as we make it meaningful. In fact, we can do all kinds of activities which we are interested in. Do not be nervous.

(1) In my spare time, I often do sports. Doing sports can enhance our physical (mental) development. It can keep fit an d make u s staying in health. I?ll learn some self-defense skills from it. By doing sports, I also learn how to communicate and interact with others.

I like running. It is ex citing. I feel close to nature when running .And it shows what upper limit human physique can reach after finishing a full running.

Sometimes, I often play basketball, football, badminton table tennis, an d so on. You know, table tennis is very popular activity on campus. It is a nation al sport. Not only do stu dents like it, but many teachers like it. Playing table tennis can train my brain, especially my eyes . After studying for a long time, My eyes are tied an d hurt. So it is g ood ch oice to play table tennis with my classmates for relaxing ourselves.

I?m a big basketball fan, even though I?m not good at playing basketball myself. I like Yao Ming, so I love to watch th e NBA on TV wh enever I g et a ch ance.

(2) In my free time, I often surf on the internet. With the development of computers throughout th e world, more an d more people hav e access to th e Internet. I kn ow it has disadvantage to spen d too much time using it. But I just use it to g et a lot of information by browsing different websites.

In fact, the Intern et has changed our conventional ways for work, communication, entertainment and expression. Apart from using the Internet for professional purposes, I also use it to communicate with families and friends by sending an d receiving e-mails, talking with others and playing games such bridge or chess with partners or oppon ents they don?t see. I also use the BBS to ex press my opinions in ways oth erwise impossible.

In general, spending too much time surfing on the interest is not g ood to a person. We should have a right attitude to it and make use of it correctly for our study.

Studying in college is a brand new start of our life. We can continue to study hard for the better scores. If we want to show our talents and skills we can join in all kinds of activities. By so , we can have a won derful college life!

8. Is it necessar y for students to take part in the social activity during the fr ee tim e?

Everybody kn ows th at stu dy is on e of th e most important things for the young people, an d a lot of people think that young men should stu dy every day to g et a good score. But I do n ot agree with such an idea, my opinion is th at the social activity and stu dy are g ood friends.

I hav e 3 main aspects to support my idea.

Firstly, the purpose of stu dy is to do more contributions to the society, is to serv e for the work. We learn more and more things in order to work easier and easier in the future, so social activity is the ch ecking standard of study.

Secondly, the social activity can make us know what is our weakpoint and what we sh ould learn in the future. For example, if I can not u se computer in my social work, I must ask myself to learn it well so as to improve my work.

Finally, the social activity is also a kind of rest for us after stu dy. From what has talked above, we can safely draw a conclusion that the social activity is a g ood partner of stu dy, we should make u se of the relations between them to create a g ood future.

9. Can you tell us som ething about the after-class activities at your college (univer sity)?

When the classes are ov er, students burst out of th e classroom buildings. Tired after a whole of serious study, they mostly spend one or two h ours to relax an d refresh themselves. If y ou take a walk on campus, you will get an idea about what students do after class.

On the playgrounds, variou s kinds of sports activities are g oing on. You will see students jogging or playing ball games. Some of them may only be practicing, some are competing seriously against each oth er.

On the weeken ds, members of v arious clubs meet at this time. Some stu dents are learning painting, calligraphy or paper-cut, while others simply sit around and talk. The drama group is rehearsing an d the school choru s is practicing. An d there is also a film show on Saturday.

On Sun days or holidays we often have concerts, plays, or parties. Sometimes we org anize picnic, climbing mountains, visits to exhibitions of factories. From time to time we invite professors from different fields to give lectures, th ey are qualified, professional and helpful.

Through the after-class activities, we widen our horizon, makes friends, have fun at the same time, the most important is, we learn many thing that we can?t in class. It is th ese activ ities that make our college life colorful and unforgettable.

10. What kind of after-class activities ar e you inter ested in?

I'm interested in sports after class because we hav e to relax after we stu dy in class. Sports are good and necessary for our body an d mental. I like long-Running around the playground or along th e road because it is full of energy and power, I enjoy climbing the steep an d high mountain to see th e beautiful nature on the top of the mountain; I'm fond of skating on the snow or ice to balance myself after a long time ex ercise, standing the pains and hurts over my body; I try to experien ce the extreme-sports h ere and th ere if possible to make my blood boiling...... I should do something to make myself to be somebody, or at least to build up my mind and body to meet the ch allenges in the new life

11. What entertainm ent does your college (univer sity) offer during the w eekend?

In fact, many entertainments are available in our university on weeken ds. For example, usu ally at Saturday night, we can go to the report halls in the two main teaching buildings; enjoy some English movies shown by various English study associations. An d the most exiting part is, they are free. Sometimes, there are concerts held by th e Art Department, which are also free. Of cou rse, th ere are many oth er ch oices, say, we like surfing on the intern et in the computer room of our library because of its clean and quiet su rrounding. In a word, after

five-day study, we can enjoy an d relax ou rselves through th ese entertainments during the weekend.

12. Ar e ther e many students in your class who have part-tim e jobs? (If yes) What kind of jobs do they do?

(If not) Why not?

Yes, there are many students in my class wh o h ave part-time jobs. Some of them work as waiters or waitresses in restaurants, teash ops, or some other places like this. Some work as tutors for middle school students. Some ch oose to sell books, cloth es or some oth er small orn aments just like peddlers. Stu dents wh o have part-time jobs think they can h ave a better understanding of th e society an d their abilities to communicate with other people can be improv ed.

No, th ere are few stu dents in my class who hav e part-time jobs. In my opinion, there are 3 reason s for this. Firstly, most of my classmates think doing part-time jobs is a waste of time; th ey may make better use of the time by learning more kn owledg e of th eir majors. Secondly, some students did h ave a try to find a part-time job in the very beginning, but most of th em could n ot find a suitable one. Because they think working in restaurants or teashops is meaningless, though su ch kinds of jobs can make them hav e more pocket money. Last but not th e least, most of us have little understanding of the society, we are afraid of being cheated by some wicked people.

13. How do you like campus life? ( Why do you think so?)

Honestly, the campus life is so desirable for me that I h ad expectation s of it before I h ad entered into it. Now I am a college student. I enjoy and love campus life very much.

First of all, th e environment of our campus is very special an d beautiful. It is located in th e undulating hills. There are many plants an d trees, man-made lakes and gardens for us to visit when we are free. It is a good place to live and study.

Secondly, campus life is colorful. Besides knowledge from textbooks and teachers, we can do an d enjoy many valuable and beneficial things such as playing basketball, football, v olleyball ; going to “English Corner”

to practise our listening and speaking; reading in the library; communicating with others an d making friends with them; taking part in a v ariety of mass organizations and social activities, which can develop ourselves and broaden our visions an d views about the world.

Last but not the least, campu s life is romantic. It is worthwhile for people to y earn ,pursue and remember.

In a word, I think the campus life in the college makes us feel su bstantial, colorful and happy.

14. Say som ething about campus activities (校园活动)

Campus activities have been organized in many universities an d colleges. These activities range from academic to recreational, su ch as academic reports, social consulting services, speech contests, poet?s club, painting clubs, singing and dan cing groups, etc.

These activities provide stu dents with two major advantages. First of all, they play a positive role in improving students? stu dies. Du e to th eir heavy schedules, stu dents are often busy th emselves with textbooks and seldom expose themselves to a colorful life. But the variety of the activities provides opportunities for them to relax themselves and enrich th eir minds and kn owledg e. In addition, the activities also serve stu dents living in the “ivory tower” have little chan ce to get in tou ch with society. Now the activities open the door for participa nts to leave th eir classrooms an d get to know society.

All this offers an important means for students to broaden their horizons. They believe with the right kind

of guidance and help campus activities will continue to grow an d flourish

15. Can you say som ething about the living conditions on campus?

Generally speaking, I enjoy my life here. The accommodation, canteen and some oth er basic living facilities are becoming students? major con cern .There are many factors will influence our likes and dislikes.

In the first place, the accommodation service of our university has gained in acceptance increasingly because of its high quality and relatively low ex pense.

Besides, our dormitory usually makes a good impression on us. It is mostly attributed to its fantastic but plain con stru ction, delicate but comfortable arrangement and magnificent but practical furniture. Fine sanitation and prompt cleaning are also appreciated. More importantly, th e strict manag ement of working and resting as well as coming in and going out, both parents and teachers can greatly relieve the psych ological burden of safety.

Moreover th e u pgraded canteen service is pretty g ood. So we need n ot worry that we would lose our appetite when far away from home. The varieties of the food are so wide that we can enjoy differently delicious dish ev eryday. What?s more, th e prices are v ery reasonable. We are satisfied physically and mentally.

It?s n o denying that some complaints still exist. Some students may argue that th e accommodation management is so stern that they have to go to bed bef ore th e power supply being cut off at 10:30 pm. Th e dining hall is so crowded that we must spend at least five minutes finding our seats at peak h ours. Some girls complain that the rice is so hard to chew.

Actually, it st ill leaves much room to be improved. But “A contented mind is the greatest blessing a man can enjoy in this world. Wh en you strike a balance between ideal an d the reality, you?ll certainly enjoy y ourself here.

16. Do you find life on campus convenient? Please give your r easons.

Yes, I h ave found that my life on campus quite convenient. As can be seen on campus, our university offers us v arious sorts of way s to facilitate our life.

For example, our comprehensive building can greatly satisfy almost all kinds of n eeds. We can surf on the intern et reading some current n ews, have dishes an d g o shopping in the First Supermarket or six department stores. Additionally, for those who like reading, our close library building can surely be a favorite place. We can get access to three reading-rooms everyday from 8:00am to 9:30pm. Kinds of latest newspaper, up-to-date magazines and famous works, concerning all branches of knowledge are available. With the flow of refreshing information an d incredible amount of knowledge, our thoughts will be refined an d our horizon will be broadened. Moreover, we can borrow three books from th e library every month. What?s more, if we want to enjoy the convenience that modern technology brings us, electrical libraries make the on-line learning approach able at the lowest price. It seems like just with the small library card at han d, we can keep in touch with the history and future.

Around our campus, th e back street also provides abundant convenience for us. Kinds of delicious snacks may make you drool. Clothes an d decoration shops are always filled with latest fashion. Some book stores and internet bar usually on th e two sides of th e street too.

At last, I?d like to mention the convenient tran sportation av ailable. No.2 an d No.18 bus coming every 5 minutes, they respectively stop at the front and back gate. We can go downtown at any time of the day. Personally, life on our campus is convenient.

17. Som e students spend a lot of tim e surfing the net. Do you think it’s a problem?

Intern et is the result of modern scien ce an d technology. With development of society, internet plays a more and more important role in people?s life. However, some stu dents spen d a lot of time surfing net, I think, it is a problem. Because it h as its advantages and disadvantag es. For its advantages: (1) internet is source of amusement such as movie, play, music an d so on. (2) Learning about th e latest News all over the world. (3) Learning about th e developments in science, arts etc. for its disadvantages: (1) Distracting students from their work an d study. (2) Taking up too much of students? time. (3) Corrupting students with some h armful shows due to its violence and sex.

18. Do you have access to the Internet on campus? Which sites do you often visit and why?

I often surf online in our college labs, because of its g ood stu dying atmosphere. In lads, I like surf the internet. Some sites I often g o to visit, like https://www.360docs.net/doc/8d7039859.html,. In our campus internet, I like atten d some courses online, for example, college English and so on. Besides that, I like to watch the English movies and music. It ex cite me a lot.

19. Which do you think is mor e important for univer sity students, practical skills or theor etical

knowledge? Give your r easons.

Firstly, .Theoretical kn owledg e is beneficial to th e society. Th eory study is providing powerful tools for u s to deal with the world around us as well as the body within ourselves.

Secondly, theoretical findings pav e ways for more advan ced scientific as well as social stu dies. Take mathematics for ex ample. Many people are under th e impression s that advan ced mathematical stu dy in university is so th eoretical that it does not hav e any practical value. However, the truth is that, ours is an age in which all areas of science are permeated more an d more by meth ods and approach es derived from theoretical knowledge in mathematics. Even marketing, once believed to be just an art of persu ading people to buy, is n ow becoming a scientific subject based on statistical stu dies of market data, which requires profound mathematical knowledge

Thirdly, Practical skills are based on theoretical knowledge. / Practical trainings and theoretical studies are interrelated. Some professions require that people h ave solid understan ding in theoretical kn owledge bef ore going into practice in those professions.

For example, to be a qu alified doctor, someone will have to first learn th eoretical knowledge at a medical school for a few y ears, then at the final years at th e sch ool, he or sh e will be given chan ce to practice in a hospital to g ain practical experience. Only with a combined knowledge both in theory an d in practical skills can a person truly become a su ccessful doctor. The same goes with a number of oth er professions such as lawyers, psychiatrists etc.

We have specialized schools such as polytechnic schools and vocational schools etc. which can provide practical trainings, for ex ample sch ools specialized in teaching cooking skills. Therefore university students should focus more on theoretical knowledge.

20. Apart fr om your major , what other subj ects do you think ar e ver y important for you ? Please

explain briefly.

I?m a sophomore/or a freshman, an d my major is tou rism & h otel manag ement . There are so many subjects for us. In th e class, almost of us focus our attention on th e major, which is appealing to us. Generally speaking, major is v ery important, we will be able to learn so much knowledge about it , including information & development in th e field, even th e future tren ds, an d some knowledge about the hotel

management, which can h elp us to boarden ou r eyesight, improve our level of man agement, wh at?s more, to seek a v ery gloriou s job. Is that so ?

Of course, meanwhile, besides th e major, other subjects concerning on it are also very important for us, for instance, English & communicative skills, and Why? Here are the reasons.

Firstly, English is so important for u s, in this field, if you want to be elicit or h ave a very good performance, you sh ould speak English very fluently, Especially when you meet foreign guests, successful communication is very important. Can you image what will happen, when foreigners say something but you can?t understand, an d how y ou can solve th e problem or anything else, ev en sometimes the situation is so embarrassed, in the

case ,ex cept for the major, English is very necessary for us to grasp an d learn very well. At the same time, in ou r spare time we also should know some culture an d customs in th e west countries.

Secondly, communicative skills are also very important, because our major is touring, which is dealt with tourists , to communicate with them very su ccessfully is very important, but h ow to solve the problem very well may bring the guests good or bad impression. As far as we know, successful & suitable communication with guests is so important. So we should learn some communicative skills after class. we can g o to th e library to borrow some books concerning on this field, even we can learn the option al subjects to increase ou r knowledge. Last is n ot least, English and communicative skills are very necessary &important for us. we should broaden our level of knowledge an d improve ourselves.

21. Could you say som ething about the way your English class is conducted? How do you like it?

Yes. At the beginning of our class our English teach er gives us 5 minutes to hav e a free talk or gives us some topic to talk about in order to stimulate our interests in English learning. The atmosphere in the classroom is relaxing and pleasant. And then the teacher leads us to th e content. In the teaching process, our teach er uses modern teaching method sh owing us much backgroun d knowledge which we like very much. We also h ave some activities to practice our spoken English, such as retelling the text, discu ssing in groups, role playing, etc. After that, our teacher gives some comments and en courages those who are shy, praises those wh o give v ery good opinions.

I think our English class is very interesting. Our teacher can speak v ery fluent English. The lecture is vivid. It?s very useful. I like it v ery much.

22. How did you learn to speak English?

I learned to speak English when I was still a junior high school stu dent. My English teach er taught me to retell and recite English lessons. Always being praised by my English teach er for my excellent job, I was very happy. So gradu ally I became confident of myself. Then I went to senior high school during which I found English, though still very important, became increasingly difficult. I have many su bjects to learn, y ou know. We are all very busy. To remember those numerous words is not easy, let alon e speak th em in daily conversation. Whenever my English teacher asked me to retell a story, I would be extremely nerv ous, for I knew I would be losing face. Now I?m stu dying in the university. English is not my major th ough; it?s still a required subject. Whether I like it or not, I hav e to study it. Besides, I hav e to try my best to get a decent score in the Band 4 College English Test. Oral English isn?t included in the test, however, it is closely related to y our listening ability. If a person cannot speak English, Wh at?s the use of learning it? So ev ery morning before class begins, I always sit in a classroom and loudly read out English. I?m n o longer shy, especially when I tried to argue with my classmates on some problems in English. I have regained confidence. Every Wednesday when I?m free, I

will go to the English Corn er to h ave more practice. There I have made a lot of new friends who are working just as hard as me. We plan to go to graduate school after we finish the bachelor?s degree. This is my ambition. What about y ou?

23. What ar e you going to do to further improve your English?

Well, in addition to attending regular English classes, I believe there are many other ways for us college students to further improve ou r English. Here?s how I plan to do:

To begin with, I will review what is learnt an d preview what will be learnt in class just as I have done in the past. Reviewing helps me grasp what is learnt in class an d previewing helps me ready for the new knowledge.

Secon d, I will try every means to improve my oral English and listening comprehension. English Corner is a g ood place for me to practice my oral English and I decide to visit there more frequently. Moreover, computer and the internet are very useful tools for stu dy. I plan to visit the websites which are useful for us to improve English whenever possible. So far I have found some excellent materials for English learning through computer. What?s more, I will also watch English programs on TV, which is helpful to improve my English study.

Lastly, I will read frequently English newspapers, n ovels and magazines to improv e my reading comprehen sion. I will try to keep a diary about what I read and what I experience to practice writing because we all know …Practice makes perfect?.

24. In som e univer sities, multim edia is used in teaching English. What do you think of this form of

teaching?

In my point of view, with the coming of information age, multimedia has widely entered our teaching. I am very fond of this teaching form because it has many favorable aspects.

Firstly, multimedia can enrich teaching form, can shorten the teaching time and improve teaching quality. Teacher can use powerpoint which th ey made by themselves to give us lesson s. It can make our classes more interesting. Teach er can org anize some activities related to the English contents more easily, such as discu ssion, debates, role plays and so on. And when we hav e English lessons, we all put ou r h earts into it. we all answer teacher?s questions actively It can make us feel it is easy to learn and grasp English language points.

Secon dly, teach er can show us a great deal of ex cellent English materials helpful for us such as New Concept English. Family Album, U.S.A. etc. We can participate in English learning actively, It can turn boring oral English practice into interesting. It greatly stimulate our interests in learning English.

Thirdly, teacher sometimes download a g reat deal of English materials from Internet. It can bring us more new information about American culture, history, scientific development and so on. We can not only learn a lot of English knowledg e, but also broaden our h orizons as well in non-major study.

25. Which cour se do you like m ost and why?

I like English most, the reasons are as follows:

If you want to:

be able to speak comfortably with your teachers, fellow students, an d n eighbors h ave a good

relationship with your academic adviser

obtain a graduate teaching assistantship or other form of financial aid

be able to carry out n ormal administrative procedures without stress

be able to shop, talk on a telephone, an d u se the public transportation system without difficulty

get an intern ship in your field of study

make presentations at profession al meetings

make a positive impression on prospective employers

make friends with people wh o are not Chinese

You know th at all of th ese worthy goals require using English. Everything will be easier for you, and you will be able to accomplish more of wh at you want to accomplish, if you speak English well. Much of you r success in the U.S. will depend on your ability to communicate with people in English. There will be times when you need to kn ow h ow to u se a machine, obtain information on getting a job, or convince an other person of your ideas. To accomplish these g oals you will need English. Students constantly sh are ideas an d information in informal conversations. If you miss out on th ese conversation s, your chances for professional and personal success will be limited compared to y our peers.

I like Chinese most

26. Why is Chinese important?

The Chinese language h as become more important globally, and China has also play ed a positive role in promoting its Chinese. Chinese has been ran ked among one of the world's popular languages of high practical value, with the country's opening up since 1980s.

Over 1000 million people world-wide speak Chinese as th eir first language. You will hear Chinese spoken in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Britain, the US an d many oth er parts of the world. As the Chinese economy grows and opens up, the market potential will fuel an increase in communication in Chinese. It is estimated in the next ten years more people will be using Chinese characters on their PCs than roman characters. The culture an d history of China is difficult to ignore

27. Ar e you satisfied with the environm ent you ar e living in? Say som ething about it.

I?m s atisfied with the living environment on campus .Reasons are as follows: first, the room I share with other five is clean an d bright, an d we hav e a good view of beautiful garden; secon d, it is very convenient, it only takes me roughly 10 minutes to the canteen, classroom, library, playgroun d or laboratory; and most importantly, I get along well with my roommates, we are open-minded with each other and help each other and to hold friendly and tolerable attitude to each oth er

28.Who is your favorite player/ sportsm an?

Definitely Yao Ming! He is so great a basketball player. I n ever miss a single game of him. I love him becau se he plays basketball so well and most important of all, he is a Chinese. I am proud of him.

29.What sports do most young people go in for?

Nowadays, a lot of young people g o in for such sports as basketball and roller skating. I don?t know ex actly why they become so popular. But I guess Yao Ming may be one reason for th e popularity of basketball among young people. An d both basketball and roller skating are cool an d fun sports, I think.

30.Why do people need to play sports?

Doing exercise is a good way of keeping us healthy. Exercise makes us fitter and h elps u s relax. It is absolutely necessary to take some ex ercise every day. No matter what kind of sports you may ch oose, getting regular exercise will always do good to your health. Research shows th at g etting plenty of exercise makes the heart beat faster and th e lungs work harder. This strengthens the heart, reduces the chance of heart attack, and helps lower blood pressure. Also some people play sports because th ey n eed to lose extra weight. Anoth er reason why people n eed to play sports might be that a lot of people nowadays find themselves under a lot of pressure. Doing sports can h elp th em to relax. That's why more and more people are becoming active in various kinds of sports and exercises. Of course, having a good diet is also very important.

31.What do you know about the Olympic Gam es?

Aiming at promoting world peace and enhance the friendship among people of the world, th e Modern Olympic Games have a history of over 100 years. There are the Winter an d Summer Olympic Games. They are h eld every four years. Last Summer Olympics was h eld in Athens in 2004, an d in 2008, the Summer Olympics will be held in Beijing!

32. On hobbies and inter ests

From Mon day until Friday most people are bu sy working or stu dying, but in the evenings and off weekends they are free to relax an d enjoy themselves. Some watch television or go to th e movies; others participate in sports. It depends on individual interests. There are many different ways to spen d our spare time.

Almost everyone h as some kind of h obby. It may be anything from collecting stamps to making model airplanes. Some hobbies are worth a lot of money; others are valuable only to their own ers.

That?s what a hobby means, I guess. It is something we like to do in our spare time simply for the fun of it. The value in money is n ot important, but the pleasure it gives us is.

33. How do you think of living in the city?

I think th e distinctive feature of city life is convenience. First, there are many pu blic places of entertainment, such as parks, cinemas, exhibitions, nightclubs and so on. And there are also quite a number of schools, universities an d scientific research institutions which provide good education. T axis, bu ses, trolley buses, subways, ferries can quickly take people anyplace in the city. And third, shops and department stores are well stocked with goods of all kinds high in quality and low in price. Anywhere living in the city you will never feel bored an d empty. However a coin has two sides. Th e main problems in the city are over-population, traffic jams, pollution, aging problem an d indifferent relationship between n eighbors.

34. How do you think of living in the countr y?

I like the rural scenery in the country. First, it is close to outdoors, the air being fresh an d pure. Second, it is free from the n oise and air pollution and traffic jam of the city. Third gardening and fishing here are pleasant pastimes. Y our day begins with the first cockcrow and en ds with the red sunset. Life in the country is quiet and comfortable.

35. What kinds of public transportation facilities can you use in the city? And What should the local

governm ent and each m ember of society do to solve the pr oblem caused by too many traffic jam s in the city?

There are lots kinds of pu blic transportation facilities in the city, like taxi, bus, trolley bus, su bway, even ferry in some cities.

Well, I think th ere are five way s for us to solve the traffic jams in the city. First, we should enlarge the main roads and build more overpasses. Second, the government sh ould issue strict traffic regulations an d try best to popularize th e regulations. Third, persuade people observe traffic regulations an d n ot to cross the street when the red light is on. Forth, enhance the quality of public transportation facilities and en courage citizens to make full of them instead of private cars when they g o out. Fifth, give training to drivers an d strictly controlling the situation of driving without license.

36. Which is mor e r eliable as a source of information, new spaper, TV, radio or the Internet? Why?

I still think, th e traditional media is more reliable, though the Internet, or the modern media has th e adv antage of high speed, large volume, and easy access. Anyon e with good computer skills can u se the media to give the information in their fav or or they believe to be true.

Well, I believe the Intern et is more reliable, becau se there are v ery strict restrictions or cen sorship on the traditional media, so y ou get g ood news most of the time an d not en ough objective reports of what is going on.

37. Piracy is a serious problem in China, especially in the field of publication. What’s your opinion? Well, it is true that piracy is v ery serious n ow. Books are printed before they are officially published an d film copies are sold before they are officially released, thus, causing heavy loss for th e pu blisher and the national revenue. Moreover, it's a serious violation of the property law in China. Th e Chinese government has don e a lot of work to crack down piracy, for ex ample, education, stiffer sentencing, precautions, etc. but many people simply ignore all these an d have a g o due to th e huge profit. On the other h and, there's a g rou p of people who like to get pirate copies with cheap price. I think th e g overnment should also punish those people who like to get fake copies. Meanwhile DVD or VCD player produ cers should produ ce those sets incompatible with fake copies.

38. Can you name som e advantages and disadvantages of print m edia ver sus aural m edia?

The print media, or n ewspapers an d magazines, are readily av ailable at a relatively low cost. Y ou can read them whenev er you like by wh atev er methods y ou prefer. Y ou can save them f or a more careful reading later. And y ou can share th em with other people. The print media have some disadv antag es, too. For example, th ere is a cost y ou have to pay even though it is considered to be low. Compared to the radio, newspapers and magazines are usually a little late in reporting the latest news. When you read a newspaper or magazine, you may only do one thing at a time, that is, reading. That is not efficient enough for th e fast-paced modern life.

Speaking of the aural media, the information and entertainment provided by the radio are free ex cept for the cost y ou pay for the radio receiver itself. In addition, there are many oth er g ood things about the radio. Y ou can carry it easily and use it wh erever you are. Y ou can do other things at the same time while you listen to the radio. Y ou can interact (交流) with the host or other audience on certain shows. And you get faster news reports from

the radio th an from th e n ewspapers. The only disadvantage of the radio I can think of is that it is not very convenient to save th e information it provides an d h ard to repeat it.

39. What ar e the advantages and disadvantages of the Internet?

The Internet, as a u seful tool, h as a long list of adv antag es. T o name a few, it provides information on a very wide range of subjects; it offers entertainment of different kinds -- from games to music to movies; it enables people to communicate with one anoth er conveniently and efficiently; and it serves as a new ch annel for business -- from advertising, shopping to ban king and investing. T eachers an d students may also benefit from the Internet as a medium for education, which makes knowledge available to people throughout the world.

Like everything else, the Intern et also h as some disadvantag es. One bad thing is that it's so convenient and attractive that it tends to consume too much of th e users' time as they keep doing one thing after anoth er on the Intern et. This may keep young stu dents away from their sch oolwork an d other activities, an d hinder them from learning proper social skills.

40.Do you believe in the saying “Clothes make the man”? Why or why not?

--- Y es, I do. Th ere is some truth in the saying. Clothes can create an image for th e person wh o wears th em. They send a message about a person?s taste, v alues, personality, statu s, and so on. On a more practical level, clothes may also h elp make a person look better and feel better.

--- No, I don?t. The function of clothes is to cover th e human body and keep the body warm, nothing more.

I find those people snobbish or stu pid wh o judg e others only by th e clothes they wear.

41. How do you think of the traffic in the city you live? How to deal with the traffic jam s in the city?

I don?t think the traffic condition is bad in Haikou expect when it is during the rush hour. Most of roads that are large enough an d relatively fewer v ehicles than those in oth er large cities offer citizens a much comfortable traffic condition. But when it rains, all is in mess. For th e road will be full of water and serious traffic jams even traffic accidents will be caused.

As for the traffic jams in the city, there are fours ways to deal with them. First, more highways are in need of building. Second, strict traffic regulations are in need of issuing. Third, more training are given to drivers. Forth, we n eed to persuade people to observe traffic regulations and n ot to cross the street when the red light is on. If th e f our ways can work well, I?m sure the traffic jams in the city can be solved effectively.

42. On invention

The 20th century was an age of great inventions and discoveries, which rev olutionized human life. The invention and popularization of the computer dramatically changed almost every aspect of people?s life and work. The invention of television an d oth er appliances., su ch the VCD, DVD, hi-fi, Walkman, MP3 and MP4, offers human beings more and better visual an d audio enjoyments. There is no denying that we live much better than before. However, a dou ble-edg ed sword of good and evil has hung over human technology for the beginning. We are more an d more aware that some scientific or technological advances, th ough useful, may have unpleasant side effects. Th e small machine, the W alkman, is no exception. It is, on th e on e hand, a handy personal stereo th at can accompany us wherever we g o, but on th e oth er, it may damage our hearing an d even

bring risks to our lives if used inappropriately.

43. Say som ething about the golden w eeks in China

The GW (Golden W eek) once became a peak consuming week and brought “gold” to many tourist destinations. However, GW h as been steadily losing its glitter for more an d more Chinese people, since it was first introdu ced on National Day 1999. Even for business, GW does n ot en sure long-term commercial prosperity, as "rush consumption" during the holiday often results in a consumption slump afterward.

Though the number of travelers during the period has increased, little room for further growth remains. In fact, not everyone affords vacation traveling. While the positive effects of GW h ave begun to fade, its negative side manifests itself in recent years. Trains, airports and sightseeing spots g et ov ercrowded, and accommodation in tourist areas are booked out well in advance. There are too many people almost everywhere. Even in the toilet, people have to wait in a long queue. Moreover, th e su dden rush of visitors swarming into scenic spots at the same time causes damage an d environmental stress. All these resulted in people's disfavor with the current GW. More an d more people are tired of the crush of crowds on public transportation and at popular tourism spots, and they prefer a short visit to a nearby park, a temple fair, an d a special sh ow or watching exciting sports ev ents as good altern atives.

Some people refuse to be tired and poor after GW. Th ey would rath er turn GW into a Copper W eek, killing lots of free time by doing whatever they like. Even staying at h ome, people can enjoy GW in quite different ways, being extremely idle an d relaxing or exceptionally busy. Some may desire a Sleeping W eek to g et much needed sleep, wh en others work hard for those things being put off, read many books, play mahjong, surf the Intern et and watch TV till late night. Surely it is not bad if you can get a little “gold” back through overtime work in the first three days of GW (pu blic holidays) that are well paid (three times stan dard rate). Remember, family reunion shines GW best of all!

44. How do you arrange your holidays?

During the holidays, I like doing things that would get me closer to the n ature su ch as climbing mountains, camping, an d so on. But I don?t like places crowded with people. I also prefer g oing abroad for my holidays becau se I can see a lot of interesting things which are different from ours. And if I am lucky enough, I can make some foreign friends on the trip an d improve my English, too.

If I have longer h olidays, say, the National Day or the Labor?s Day h olidays, I usu ally spen d the first few days g oing out with friends/ classmates for some fun/ a picnic/ traveling/ going to the seaside an d enjoy the beautiful scenery. An d then I would spen d th e last two or few days staying at h ome/ in the dorm sleeping/ reading some books to bring me back from the holiday and get ready for my stu dy/ work.

45. Which festival do you like best? Why?

I like the Spring Festival most among various traditional festivals in China as it is the biggest and most exciting festival for Chinese. I like th e Spring Festival also becau se I can eat a lot of delicious food and do a lot of interesting thing. For me, setting off fireworks at night is the most enjoyable thing during the festival. The whole sky would be filled with won derful colors. But I don?t enjoy visiting relatives with my parents, for it?s so tiring and boring.

The Spring Festival is th e most important festival for th e Chinese people and is when all family members get tog ether, just like Christmas in the West. All people living away from home g o back, becoming the bu siest time for transportation systems of about half a month from the Spring Festival. Airports, railway stations and long-distance bus stations are crowded with h ome retu rnees.

People attach great importance to Spring Festival Eve. At that time, all family members eat dinner togeth er. The meal is more luxurious than usu al. Dishes such as chicken, fish and bean curd cannot be excluded, for in Chinese, they mean auspiciousn ess, abundance and richness. After the dinner, the whole family will sit together, chatting and watching TV. In recent years, the Spring Festival party broadcast on China Central Television Station (CCTV) is essential entertainment for the Chinese both at home an d abroad. An d each family will stay

up to see th e New Y ear in.

46. Ar e custom s and old rituals of traditional Chinese festivals w ell r eserved?

Well, I think Current customs to observe traditional Chinese festivals get more and more simplified an d th e old rituals are g radually gone. For some people, festivals only mean th e symbolic foods, such as wrapped glutinous rice for the Dragon Boat Festival or moon cake for th e Mid-Autumn Festival. The growing popularity of W estern holidays in China might be one reason for the weakening cultural elements in China's traditional holidays. An other important reason I think is that many festivals, considered important days on China's lunar calendar, su ch as Lunar New Y ear's Eve and Mid-Autumn Day, are not public holidays, an d relevant folk customs are n ot well observed, especially in cities, as people hav e to work.

47. How do you look at the popularity of som e w estern festivals in China?

A: In recent y ears, western holidays are welcomed by most of the Chinese people. I think this kind of popularity has many advantages. First, through celebrates the western h oliday, we may better promote the western culture ex change. W e can also learn some western cultures. For example on Than ksgiving, people celebrate the harv est by preparing a large meal. And this h elps us to know westerners better.

B: I think the popularity of the western festivals in China isn't suitable. Western an d Eastern has different culture, and different culture created on e?s own festival. Th ey came togeth er an d kn ow each other really and closely only in modern times. Now, more and more Chinese young people talk about western an d accept th eir festivals, this may say possibly they will forget where they are and what nationalities they are.

foreign festivals are popular mainly among the younger generation while the seniors show little interests to

them. As I hav e previously stated, th e y oung people today are growing in the atmosphere of well acceptance of foreign cultures and increasing toleran ce toward foreign festivals. Th ey enjoy h appily sending greeting cards at Christmas, DIY ch ocolate to their beloved ones on v alentine?s day, make jokes on April fool?s day and hug their parents on Mother?s day an d Fath er?s day. To th em, foreign festivals en rich their lives, giving them more occasions to hav e fun an d appreciate lov e.

While, on the other hand, the older generation sh ow quiet indifferent attitudes toward foreign festivals.

They still prefer traditional Chinese festivals, during which the gath ering of family is still greatly emphasized. Th ey reg ard th e young people?s craze about Christmas an d V alentine?s Day as deceived by business? tricks. The money spent on gifts an d fl owers are, in their eyes, n othing but waste.

48. Will Christmas Replace the Spring Festival?

Christmas arouses increasing attention y ear by y ear in China. Christmas cards become popular with stu dents. People h old Christmas parties and ex change Christmas gifts. A lot or TV an d radio programs about Christmas are on. Meanwhile th e Spring Festival is less appealing to y oungsters. Thus some people won der wheth er Christmas will replace th e Spring Festival.

This worry is fairly unnecessary. Why? One reason lies th at Christmas only affects Christians, college students and joint-venture (workers. Anoth er reason is that Christmas is mostly celebrated in cities. Few people in countryside sh ow extreme interest in this exotic festival. By contrast, the Spring Festival is the most influential traditional festival in every family.

I think, it is n atural th at with increasing exchanges with the West, a lot of Western holidays have been gradu ally introduced into China. For us Chinese we sh ould never neglect or even discard our own traditional festivals. For centuries Chinese h ave observed this traditional h oliday to welcome the beginning of a new y ear. And we will treasure the Spring Festival forever.

49. Can you tell m e about Chinese food?

Y es, but it's a difficult question. Y ou see, there is n o such simple thing as so-called "Chinese food". With a territory as larg e and a history as long and complex as China's, it is inevitable that distinct regional differen ces in cuisine have evolved over th e centuries. China's long history, vast territory and extensive contact with oth er nations an d cultures h ave given birth to the distinctive Chinese culinary art. As you know, th e nearly endless

variety of natural ingredients and methods of preparation employ ed in Chinese cuisine stand out unequaled in the world. I suppose that may v ery well account for the universal popularity of Chinese restaurants and Chinese cooking overseas.

It is g enerally accepted that we have four principal culinary regions: Sh andong, Sichuan, Canton and Y angzhou, with Fujian-Taiwan most commonly listed as a fifth. But these designations are n ot hard and fast g eographical boundaries. Well, Beijing food, for instance, falls within the realm of Shangdong cooking, but includes some Sichuan dishes and Mongolian-influenced specialties. The cuisine of the entire densely-populated Y angtze River delta area, including Wuxi, Suzhou, Shanghai an d Hangzhou dishes, falls under the category of Y angzhou cuisine.

50. Can you just briefly tell m e how you think Chinese food is differ ent from that of other countries?

Well, I 'm afraid I don't know much about how people in oth er countries cook as I have nev er been abroad. But as far as the cooking techniques are concerned, Chinese people tend to use stir-fry or quick-fry method while people from other countries like to h ave their veg etables or meat either steamed or boiled. Anoth er difference is that they u se cheese a lot while many Chinese people find it too greasy. Anoth er very obvious difference is that Chinese people like to hav e th eir beef well done while people from other countries may like it rare or medium. Y ou can also find some difference in the ingredients people hav e in China where th ey eat things like chicken or duck wings, necks, feet, intestines or liver, while other people find them disgusting.

51. Has the diet or eating habit of the Chinese changed in the last 30 or 40 year s, or is it still much the

sam e?

Y es, our diet habit h as ch anged a lot like with almost ev erything else. W e go to the W estern restaurant or ethnic restau rants to taste some exotic food now an d then. As we h ave more varieties to choose from, many young people often go to th e Western fast f ood places. There is actu ally a fast food craz e in China. Anoth er change we can find is th at people have changed th e traditional diet habit such as th e age long practice of eating a big feast with pork, beef, mutton, fish, etc. du ring the holidays or festivals. Now they prefer to keep a balanced diet, eating green food free of pollution, pay more attention to nutrition, protein, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins or the qu ality of food rather than qu antity. They have also changed their way of cooking, from deep-frying to stir-frying or just eat it raw as they know some vitamins can be lost as a result of cooking and yet a regular daily intake of vitamins is necessary. What is worth mentioning is that people n owadays can prepare, at home, th ose dishes that were once th ought to be luxury ones instead of just h aving simple rice and veg etable dishes as they used to do.

52. Describe the type of food you like best.

I really don't kn ow which type of food I should talk about as I like many different dishes. Now we hav e many different alternatives to ch oose from: various ethnic foods, nutritionally-balanced health food, and convenient and delicious fast food, in addition to traditional home-cooked meals. If asked to choose, I think I like Sichuan food better, as y ou know, the hot and spicy food, v ery tasty.

53. Do you like the climate of the city wher e you live? Why or why not?

Y es. I do. It is very pleasant in Hainan all the year round. I can enjoy the sunshine for most of the time. After raining, th e air is very clean and fresh. The most important thing is that trees are green all the time. I love green v ery much for it stan ds for life and hope. It is fascinating to do some reading or ex ercises under the coconut palm trees. It is tropical climate so that I can enjoy lots of fruits: mango, ban ana, pineapple, longan, and lychee. All of these are my favorite fruits.

Though the average temperature here in summer is about 30 degrees Centigrade and it is quite h ot under the sun, usually too shiny at noon, it is very breezy under the shade. People try to avoid g oing outside in the streets during the daytime. They keep staying inside the h ouse and manage to cool themselves off. Therefore, people would like to go shopping or get tog ether for tea or beer after the sunset. An d nightlife is quite colorful here in Hainan.

54. Which season do you like best in the city wher e you live? Why?

(Hainan Normal University is located in the north of Hainan, which is tropical and warm all the year round. Here, there is no sharp difference among seasons. After all, among th e four season s: spring, summer, autumn and winter, I like spring best. In Hainan, spring is very pleasant, which is very cool during the daytime an d the sunshine is n ot hot but warm. I enjoy it h eartedly. As is known th at th ere will sandstorms in the north of China but in here I can really enjoy the clean air, blue sky, white cloud and beautiful sand beach. How marvelous it is!)

(I like summer best. In spite of the hot climate in the day, a cool night is much to be enjoyed. The dazzling stars twinkle in th e sky. The brilliant moon h angs herself among the trees. If y ou g et up before dawn, y ou may take a pleasant walk. Y ou will see there is ju st a faint light in the eastern sky and the stars are beginning to pale.

A cool breeze blows an d the birds are ju st waking. Then, you will enjoy the best part of a h ot summer day.)

(Autumn is the best season in this part of the world. The g olden sun is not so h ot as in summer. Everything on the earth seems to be golden, too. Many flowers are at their best and many fruits are in season. Farmers are harvesting fruit, rice an d other crops. In late autumn, though some leaves turn y ellow and fade, many plants remain green.)

55. Can you tell m e what kind of entertainm ent you like best?

1) The kind of entertainment I like most is classical music. Music ch anges my life. Wh enever I felt tired and weary, I would open my disc player and enjoy my favourite pieces of music. At that time, th e fantastic world of sound drove away all my worries and tension. What I g ot was peace in mind.

2) I like watching TV on leisure time, of so many programmes on show, I suppose I like Man and Nature the best, because the programme makes me close to nature, enjoying the beautiful wildness beyon d our city life. It can not only bring me visual pleasure but also widen the range of my knowledge.

3) As far as I?m concerned, th e best entertainment is to see a film. Among various ty pes of films, I like those reflecting the real society and revealing more social problems, su ch as racial or sex discrimination, government corruption and so on. They make me more matu re after watching them. on th e contrary, th ose comedies, love stories an d adventures are na?ve an d unrealistic.

56. What do you think is the most favorable entertainm ent for the college students?

W ell, it?s hard to say. There are all kinds of entertainment facilities. W e can go to th e cinema, th e th eatre, and different kinds of bars. I guess th e most popular for the young is g oing on line, surfing the internet. Everywhere you g o, y ou can see numerous net bars, ch eap an d convenient. They surf on the intern et for information, chat with their friends or receive and sen d e-mails to friends far away. Some of th em learn English. Some students just play computer game.

57. How would you describe your r elationship with your par ents?

I hav e a v ery good relationship with my parents. W e are a close family an d love each oth er v ery much. I like to tell my parents about wh at I do at sch ool and they are always interested in what I hav e to tell them. Since I came to college, I think th ere have been some changes in our relationship. I remember, when I was in middle school, it was usu ally my parents who did most of the talking when we spent time together. They would have endless advice to give to me. Now it seems to be the other way around. Th ey tend to do more listening than talking. My parents and I have different opinions on quite a few things. My parents don?t like th e ty pe of music I listen to. They don?t seem to h ave any interest in football or basketball. They think little of the fashion th at is popular on university campuses. I, on my part, don?t exactly share some of th eir interest and concerns. But we never let our differences hurt our feelings for each other. Most of the time we would agree to disagree.

58. Do young m en and young women have the sam e standard in choosing a spouse? If not, why not?

I don?t think young men and women hav e exactly the same standards for choosing a spouse. There are a large number of studies sh owing what these standards are for men and women in different parts of th e world. Generally speaking, you?ll find that the differences hav e a great deal to do with cultural traditions and social influence.

59. Please say som ething about your family.

There are…in my family. My father is a …while my mother is a …I h ave two/one/n o elder/y ounger brother(s)/sister(s). In my family, my mother/fath er/grandfath er/grandmother influences me most. My fath er /mother is a well-respected…/an ordinary…/ a su ccessful…My mother/fath er is thrifty and industrious /generous and compassionate. I look more like (resemble) my father/mother. I often call / write to my parents.

I usually tell my parents…on the ph one/in the letters. I love my parents becau se they give me life/have sacrificed a lot in bringing me up/are always there for me when ever I need th em. I respect my parents because they have taught me to be honest, generous, open-minded,…/ because th ey are role models for me. I know I can always tu rn to my parents for help when I hav e problems, but I don?t want to make th em worry about me / but I don?t want to upset th em unnecessary.

60. Please intr oduce oneself.

My name is…, an d I?m from a beautiful county…. My classmates hold that I?m a ty pically extroverted man -- sociable, talkative, warm-hearted, active and self-confident. But th ey don?t kn ow I was timid sometimes, especially when asked to speak before au dience. Thus I attempt to ov ercome it by con sciously taking active part in the extracurricular activities, an d dev eloping hobbies such as collecting stamps, playing basketball, chatting online, traveling and so on.. But don?t let that mislead you, I lov e my major -- Chinese Language an d Literature. In addition to being present at each class, I read widely and try to discus with my teachers and my classmates, and have written some of my own essays. Besides, I make efforts to apply w hat I?ve learned in class into practice by tutoring middle school students or oth er part-time jobs, from which I?ve obtained a lot and found the importance of fundamental knowledge ,self-control an d willpower as well as patien ce .

大学英语口语考试试题-10个口语话题(期末)

Topics for Oral test 1. Which great leader do you admire most? What qualities did/does he/she have? bill gates 2. Which do you cherish more, your friendship with a good friend or your romantic relationship? obviously, friend is easy to make, but lover is kind of hard to seek for. Since relationship between friends might be not that close compared to romantic relationship, I will probably take it serious and cherish this sweet relationship. Also, I believe that my friends will support me and our relationship won’t be tense and freezing because of this. As the Chinese saying goes, once you got a boyfriend or a girlfriend, you may leave your friends out of your mind. I partly agree this, and when I fall in love, especially at the very beginning, I think I will cherish it more than friendship. 3. What factors would you consider first if you were to find a job (even a part-time job)? I will first consider whether this company and the offered position is high potential. I think high potential is a quality that is vital for the company’s future development and its personnel’s self improvement. Every one need a room to promote and realize one’s self-value. Another factor I concern is—its location. I’d like to work and live in big cities because big cities offer so many opportunities and a higher salary while small cities can’t. 4. Whom do you usually turn to when in trouble, vour parents or your friends? They know me better than anyone else and their vision is wide, their thoughts are mature.

英语口语话题练习题Word

英语口语加试朗读语段练习题 Passage 1 How I learned to learn English Last year my English class was difficult. First of all, it wasn’t easy for me to understand the teacher when she talked. To begin with, she spoke too quickly, and I couldn’t understand every word. La ter on, I realized that it doesn’t matter if you don’t understand every word. I was also afraid to speak in class, because I thought my classmates might laugh at me. I couldn’t always make complete sentences, either. Then I started to watch English-language TV. It helped a lot. I think that doing lots of listening practice is one of the secrets of becoming a good language learner. Another thing that I found very difficult was English grammar. So I decided to take lots of grammar notes in every class. Then I started to write my own original sentences using the grammar I was learning. It’s amazing how much this helped. Now I am enjoying learning English and I got an A this term. My teacher is very impressed. Passage 2 My biggest problem My biggest problem i s that I’m too busy. When I was young, I used to have so much time, but these days I get up early and stay in school all day. Then I go right home and eat dinner. Before I started high school, I used to spend a lot time playing games with my friends, but I just don’t have the time anymore. In the evening, I used to watch TV or chat with my grandmother, but now I have to study. I love music, and my father used to take me to concerts. These days, I hardly ever have time for concerts. I do my homework and go to bed. I really miss the old days. Passage3 Last week everyone was trying to cheer up Jimmy, the bike boy. But this week, Jimmy is happy again. On Monday, he told a radio interview that he had run out of money to buy old bikes. He also put up some signs asking for old bikes and called up all his friends and told them about the problem. He even handed out advertisements at a local supermarket. Then he told the teachers at school about his problem and they set up a call-in center for parents. The strategies that he came up with worked out fine. He now has sixteen bikes to fix up and give away to children
