I remember the first time that I was extremely happy. I was about 8 years old when for the first time, there was a computer in the classroom. I remember that my teacher allowed each student to take turns playing various educational games on the computer. One day, I found the source code (密码) for one of these games. Without knowing or being taught any programming language, I was able to figure out some portions of the BASIC code.

Anyone who knows a bit of programming can tell you that I just give myself an infinite (无穷大) number of lives in the game, so I can continue playing forever. This was also my first introduction to algebra (代数), and I didn’t even know it at the time. This was a decisive moment in my life. For the first time that I can remember, I was quite happy because of what I was learning and what I was able to do. As a result, I became enthusiastic for the rest of my life about self-learning and computers, and I was quite happy doing them, too.

I’ve noticed that people who are truly content with life are enthusiastic in what they do. This enthusiasm, along with good health, is the key to being happy. It also leads to self-confidence and fulfillment in life, too. It may also lead to success, wealth, and achievements.

Yes, success, wealth, or achievements seem to bring some people h appiness, too. Yet, I don’t think they can indeed make people happy. I know plenty of people who are successful and wealthy. However, I also know several of the people with successful businesses are not happy with what they are doing. I know people who continuously buy themselves new toys, cars, computers, and televisions, yet they never seem content for too long.

Please remember that happiness comes from enthusiasm, and happiness is the journey of life, not the destination.

D. To read some latest news.

B. he has always been happy since his childhood

C. concentrating on what you love makes you happy

D. one can solve any problem in life by himself

45. What’s the main idea of the last but one paragraph?

A. Wealth cannot bring any people any happiness.

“Soccer is the international language of the world. People play soccer everywhere and they get a lot of joy out of it. And it brings communities together.”

That was Dave Stahl. He played soccer in college, at Chico State University in Northern California. One of Dave’s teammates was Michael Michel. Michael joined the Peace Corps after graduation and worked for two years in Niger, in West Africa, When Michael returned, he and Dave developed an idea. It was called “Project P lay Africa”. They believed that soccer could improve the lives of African children.

Dave and Michael spent 15 years organizing Project Play Africa. They raised thirty thousand dollars in donations. Then they ordered two thousand soccer balls from China. Dave and Michael flew to Niger, rented a car, and drove into the countryside. They gave soccer balls and air pumps to the people they met. “We’re driving down the road and going by this little village and we see about a dozen kids trying to play

so ccer and they were literally kicking around a sock filled with sand.”

Dave and Michael say the children were very happy to get the soccer balls. But the two friends realized that they needed to focus their efforts. So in 2011, Dave and Michael started a soccer league in Libore, outside Niger’s capital city of Niamey. They asked local clubs and schools to help.

“It engaged boys and girls, which is very unusual for a Muslim country, you know that the parents were letting their girls participate in an activity though usually the girls are doing housework, fetching water and wood and so on.”

Dave says the leaders of Libore supported the league. And, the village and school were proud of their teams. Dave says one of the best parts of the trip was watching the boy’s and girls’ championship soccer games. “The field was totally lined with people and they had a lean-to tent at the center of the field where the mayor and the chief were sitting.”

A. offer African children sufficient food

A. Girls are forbidden to be involved in the soccer events.

B. Parents are worried about the violence of soccer games.

C. Soccer is becoming a new favor among Niger children.

D. The project depends on financial support of the government.

49. What does the word “it” in Paragraph 5 refer to?

A. The soccer league

B. The little village

C. The local club

D. The housework

50. What can be learned from the last paragraph?

A. More soccer balls are needed in Niger

B. Soccer games attract more tourists

C. Fewer people are interested in the soccer games

D. Soccer league gains support from the government

D

The time children spend outdoors could be linked to a reduced risk of being short-sighted, research suggests.

An analysis of eight previous studies by University of Cambridge researchers found that for each additional hour spent outside per week, the risk of short-sightedness was reduced by 2%. They said exposure to natural light and time spent looking at distant objects could be key factors.

The studies involved more than 10,000 children and adolescents. Dr. Justin Sherwin and his research team concluded that short-sighted children spent an average of 3.7 fewer hours per week outdoors than those who either had normal vision or were far-sighted.

But they said the reasons were not yet clear. They expected to find that children who spent more time outdoors also spent less time doing activities like reading, studying or playing computer games, but no such link was found in two of the eight studies which looked at this relationship.

However, Dr. Sherwin said they would now need more precise data to try to understand which factors, such as increased use of distance vision, reduced use of near vision, natural ultraviolet (紫外线的) light exposure (暴露) and physical activity, are most important.

“Any inc rease in time spent outdoors must be weighed against exposure to ultraviolet radiation and the increased risk of skin cancer, cataracts (白内障) and other cancers.” he said. “On the other hand, increasing outdoor physical activity could protect against diabetes and obesity, for example.”

Short-sightedness is a common eye condition that causes distant objects to appear blurred (模糊不清的), while close objects can be seen clearly. It is much more common today in the UK and the United States than it was just 30 to 40 years ago. Approximately 1-2% of five-year-olds to seven-year-olds in the UK have short-sightedness. About five million British people are short-sighted and some 200,000 of them will be seriously short-sighted. In some parts of Asia, more than 80% of the population suffers from short-sightedness.

51. The passage mainly tells us ___________.

A. short-sightedness and its effects

B. some factors that affect one’s eyesight

C. more and more children become short-sighted

D. less time spent outdoors may mean more short-sightedness

52. The underlined word “precise” in the fifth paragraph shares the closest meaning with ___________.

A. accurate

B. strong

C. specific

D. precious

53. According to the passage, short-sightedness may have something to do with the following except ___________.

A. obesity

B. exposure to natural light

C. looking at distant objects

D. time spent outdoors

54. Which of the following is TRUE?

A. Students who spent more time outdoors read less.

B. Only one factor contributes to short-sightedness.

C. The increase in time spent outdoors means more exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

D. The less time children spent outdoors, the more short-sighted they are.

55. The last paragraph is mainly developed by ___________.

A. giving definitions

B. showing figures

C. presenting arguments

D. making comparisons

第Ⅱ卷

第三部分:写作

第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

阅读下面短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。

What would you do if you quarreled with your friend? Would you like to say sorry to him or her first if you don’t want to stop your friendship with him or her? The following are well worth readi ng.

It’s not about winning. Friendships aren’t like the Super Bowl, and there should never be a winner and a loser. When you start fighting with a friend, it may feel important that you “win” the fight by proving you’re right and he’s wrong, or by making him be the first to apologize. In reality, you’ll both lose if you let the fight spoil your friendship, and you will both win if you find a way to make up.

Put aside your pride. Maybe you think you will lose your pride if you say sorry to your friend, which means you admit that you are wrong. Therefore you just wait for your friend to say sorry. Don’t let this

happen to a friendship you care about. Remember: as time goes on, we usually forget who was right and who was wrong in a disagreement, and only remember the sadness of losing a friend. So just put your pride aside if you want your friendship to keep going.

Take the first step. Try being the first to apo logize. You don’t have to take full responsibility for starting the fight, or even say that your feelings were wrong. But you should find something that you did or said that’s worth apologizing for. If you say you’re sorry, it’s like an invitation for your friend to do the same. Once you’ve both said it, you’ll both feel a million times better.

Apologizing isn’t about “bowing down” to your friend or becoming a “doormat.” It’s about taking some responsibility for the argument, and inviting him or her to take responsibility too. If your friend thinks he’s “won” just because you’ve apologized, then he’s not ready to make up yet.

56. What does the passage mainly tell us? (No more than 20 words)

57. Why is it important to say sorry to your friend after a fight? (No more than 12 words)

58. In what way is friendship different from the Super Bowl? (No more than 8 words)

59. Please explain the underlined word “spoil” in English. (No more than 5 words)

60. In your opinion, does apologizing mean losing pride? Why? (No more than 25 words)

作文范例

Dear Sir,

I’m writing to request a valuable chance to be one of the host families of the British students.

We have a large and clean house, which lies in a beautiful area of the city. I’m good at English and my parents are both pr ofessors of English, so I’m sure we won’t have any difficulty communicating with English speakers. My father is an excellent driver and we will be very glad to show foreign students around some nearby places of interest in our own car. Last month we received two American students. We had a great time. Besides, my mother cooks well, so the students will be able to enjoy delicious Chinese food. I would greatly appreciate it if I could have the chance to make friends with them.

Looking forward to your reply.

Yours,

Li Hua

The firemen turn their hoses on the crowd and start to spray. Bill Keys I’m watching history being made. As I take p ictures of the black children gathered for their march, I see firemen cross the street toward them. Connor is there yelling commands. The firemen spray the kids with water.
