If the application for co-educate PhD programme supported by China Scholarship Council is approved, I will be supported by a Chinese National Fund, which will support those PhD candidates in China to go abroad to some world class Universities of their fields. This programme will cover all living cost I need in USA.

UCLA is one of the world-famous universities, where many students dream to go. For a long time, I am very interested in the research of drug delivery and the application of nanotechnology. After browsing your web site, I understand that you are working on nanotechnology, biomaterials and drug delivery and have published quite a lot of high level scientific papers. As such, you are the leading researcher in this area in the world. I find the research of biomaterials and drug delivery in your group attracts me deeply, so I write to you to see if you can give me a chance to study in your group.

And now I'm doing a lot of work on genetic linkage map of orchardgrass, including field experiments, molecular biology experiments (such as molecular markers and so on).  And this program runs like this, students meet the application requirements can apply this program, and my University and research area is among the main supporting Universities and areas. Thank you for your message regarding an interest to studying in our laboratory.  We are excited to have good students like yourself visit our laboratory for educational experienceWith regards to opportunities to come to the Forage and Range Research Laboratory for study towards a degree in China we have several USDA employees that have joint appoint with Utah State University.  I believe you have contacted Drs. Robins (Plant Breeder) and Bushman (Molecular Geneticist) since they are working on orchard grass as a model species in the grasses and for which you have a common interest.  I have spoken with both of them and they are very interested in having you visit our laboratory (please see our website which is under reconstruction by useable).  After our joint discussion (Drs. Robins, Bushman and myself) I think that you should plan on applying for a 18-24 month request for work in the U.S. for the purpose of doing grass breeding and molecular work.  We noted that your molecular talents (by your publications) is considerable.  However, we feel that it would be in our best benefit to work on developing and phenotyping appropriate populations while you are here and that is why the long time frame.  It is just impossible to provide you with the type of training that we can offer you in this field for anything less than 18 months.  The more time that you can spend here the better since at the end we will want to work to draft the publication(s) associated with your work here.  Any of the work here that you are directly related with and

are the senior researcher for will have your name as first author such that there will be no conflict with your requirements for your dissertation.Based on their initial positive feelings about having visit here, I would like to suggest the following:

That you contact them (or them you) to develop a tentative project plan

I write you a letter of invitation from the laboratory based on the project plan (18-24 months)

You submit your paper work for financing, of which we can provide a budget for the laboratory fees (our contribution will likely be about $10,000 per year and this will be put in the letter of invitation from me).  You need to remember that you need to include a portion of our request for funding for health insurance that you must have a commitment for before you apply for a visa (usually between $500-600 per month for a single foreign person).  The cost of living in Logan per year ranges between $10,000-20,000 USD.  I would suggest that you budget about $15,000 USD in your funding application to the Chinese government.  In that budgeting you will need to include your traveling expenses (roundtrip ticket).  You will need this for application for a visa since the U.S. Government will need to have proof of funding for all travel related to your stay in the U.S.  I will write you a letter based on the facts that I will assume that you can receive funding for your stay, that you will arrange for health insurance and that you will have budgeted for a round trip ticket from China to the U.S. and return.

When you are successful with the application for funding from your government, we will work to arrange for housing here in Logan for you.  

In order for me to write a letter for you by January 2010, I would invite you to work with Drs. Bushman and Robins to develop a project plan which I will define in my invitation letter to you.  Please contact Drs.
