C、答案:F; A; C; G; E

解析:

2.由.An " extinct" language has no speakers. It is gone forever. Alaska ' s Eyak language is one example.

4.由The Endangered Language Alliance wants to save languages from disappearing.

5.由 At least one did. In 1881, a Jewish linguist named Eliezer Ben-Yehuda brought the 3 ,000-year-old language Hebrew back to life. Today it is one of the official languages of the country of Israel, with more than 4 million speakers.

The ancient Egyptians wrote their stories on something made from papyrus plants.(古埃及人把他们的故事写在用纸莎草这种植物制作的东西上。)

Made of trees, paper was easier and cheaper to make than papyrus or parchment.(用树木制造的纸,相比纸莎草和羊皮纸更加便宜和容易制作。)

My favorite sport is football. I was a member of our football team. Anyone may borrow books, and it cost nothing to borrow them. cost应改为costs,因其主语是it(为形式主语),且上下文均为一般现在时。 3. The Smiths did his best to make me feel at home.句中的主语the Smiths表的是Smith一家人,因此指示代词his应改为their。 4. 由and, or, but, either...or..., neither...nor..., not only...but also..., as well as等并列连词和词组连接的结构可称为平行结构。 It was very kind of them to meet me at the railway station and drove me to their home. 句中的drove显然与and前面的to meet不平行,应改为drive。 5. We study quite a few subject, such as Maths, Chinese... quite a few Most people can quickly get help from a doctor or go to a hospital since they are ill.

A Famous centenarians (百岁老人) still active in arts, science are in no mood to retire. "Those who stand still, die," is one of Oliveira's favorite phrases. He knows from experience what it means, as the Portuguese film director has reached the age of 102 and is still active in his profession. Every year, Oliveira shoots a film and is currently working on his next project. "You have to work, work, work in order to forget that death is not far away," he said. When asked about his age, Oliveira said with some humility: "It's down to mother nature. It gave to me what it took from others." Being both mentally and physically fit in old age is partly a matter of luck, but it also has something to do with character. Not every white-haired person is wise and social skills, openness and the ability to train the brain are essential for senior citizens. Along with the architect Oscar Niemeyer (103), Nobel laureate Montalcini (101) and director Kurt Maetzig (100), Oliveira is one of those people of whom it would be very wrong to think as members of a listless elderly generation. Another master in his profession is the architect Oscar Niemeyer. The 103-year-old Brazilian is best known for his futuristic-looking(未来派的)buildings in Brasilia, but he also speaks out on behalf of the poor. "The role of the architect is to struggle for a better world where we can develop a form of architecture that serves everyone and not just a privileged few," said Niemeyer recently. He spends almost every day working in his office in Copacabana, and even when he falls ill he keeps working on ideas: After a gallbladder (胆囊) operation he composed a samba tune (桑巴舞曲) in the clinic. Another man who could sing a song about age is 107-year-old Heesters. The Dutch-born opera singer spent most of his life performing in Germany, where he still works. Recently Heesters said: "I want to be at least 108-years-old." He also plans to keep performing. "Should I just sit at home and wait until they come and pick me up?" Heesters has not given up trying to add to his tally of awards and is looking for a "good stage role". Italian scientist Rita Levi-Montalcini, who is 101-year-old and is still active in medical science, has described the force that keeps driving her on: "Progress is created through imperfection." In 1986 she and her lab colleague were awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine for their work on nerve growth factor. She's convinced that humans grow on challenges.

It's such a common event that you probably never asked yourself why you sleep. 36 .In fact, for sleep researchers it's one of the biggest unanswered questions in the field. Stop and think about it for a second. Why should we sleep? 37 .But we sleep every night even when we have had plenty of rest. There are, no doubt, several different answers to this question but let's just consider one general purpose of sleep: 38 . Human beings are creatures that are normally active during daylight hours when our senses functions most effectively. 39 .We can't see objects well, our color vision is entirely lost, and we don't have the smelling or hearing sharpness of other animals. So it actually does make sense to have us stay where we are during the dangerous period when night-waking animals are walking here and there. And one sure way to make sure we don't fall down everywhere and get lost or eaten is to have us not move for seven or eight hours rising again only when the light is back and our survival chances are better. It's not the only reason we sleep. 40 . Perhaps even the most important one. A. At night, humans do rather poorly. B. But from a scientific point of view this is far from an ordinary matter. C. Should that put human beings in a terrible situation? D. Sleep as a survival approach. E. Furthermore, if you were designing an animal would you have it come into long periods of unconsciousness every twenty-four hours? F. But in terms of evolution it may have been one of the first reasons. G. Is it because we get tired?
