3、In Germany, foresters discovered that trees killed by acid rain had begun to die four years earlier, even though the trees had shown no signs of disease then.

4、In the wild, pygmy chimpanzees are found only in an inaccessible region south of the Zaire River, since such is the case, very few are in captivity.

and so no more than a few are in captivity

×and very few are in captivity because of that

5、Beginning photographers may choose from among several camera types, there is one which is best for their particular interests.

one of which is

×and one is

Enzymes, among the oldest known chemical compounds, actually are nonliving protein molecules.

The author takes the reader on a chronological journey through her native land, skillfully ×The reader is taken on a chronological journey through the a uthor’s native land by skillfully

8、Television’s programming difficulties, already made acute by rising costs, threatens to become even more severe as a result of lobbying by special-interest groups.

already made acuter by rising costs, threaten

a situation causing educators to lament

10、One result of the fire department’s new contract is that they can no longer offer overtime pay on weekends.

As one result of its new contract, the fire department can no longer offer overtime pay on weekends.

A comparison o v er time of the numbers of alligators and Gila monsters shows that alligators are

12、Archaeologists say that the Pueblo village of Acoma, which is 7,500 feet above sea level and 400 feet above the valley floor, is the oldest continuously inhavited spot in the United States.

States; however, more than half of the states extend

15、When we were cleaning the garage, my sister and I found the old soccer ball in a dark corner we used to play with when we were young.

in a dark corner the old soccer ball we used to play with when we were young

16、A thick growth of sunflowers standing ten feet tall, their brown heads dropped over the fence with the weight of their seeds.

stood ten feet tall, their brown heads drooping

19、Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was a descendant of John and Priscilla Alden, whose romance he celebrated in the narrative poem “The Courtship of Miles Standish.”

20、Bridget worried that she might not be able to bring back many souvenirs were she to take only one suitcase on vacation.

21、This morning, just as the professor was leaving for his lecture tour, a panel of distinguished scientists had issued a report confirming his most recent findings.

×but to some members of the audience it seemed

24、Heart disease, it having developed often unnoticed for any years, is sometimes the result of a poor diet.

often developing unnoticed for many years

×developed for many years and often unnoticed

25、Since they are instructed to avoid controversial statement-making, political speeches are usually bland and innocuous.

Because speechwriters are instructed to avoid making controversial statements

26、Found attached to the colon, the organ known as the appendix losing importance thousands of years ago through the process of evolution.

the organ known as the appendix lost importance

31、Because department stores need to maintain a wide range of inventory on their shelves, wholesalers have quick and easy ordering forms online for stores to instantly request more stock when needed.

32、When the students take a trip on the intracostals waterway system next month, they will learn facts with which they have heretofore been unacquainted.

Mrs. Simpson shook him and called out his name.

are like an obstacle course through which any new drug and its maker must run

35、Environmentalists will find it difficult to discover which is most to blame for the disaster —the company workers who dumped the chemicals or the mayor who allowed the dumping.

who is more to blame f or the disaster—the

×whether the disaster was the fault of the

整个语法部分包括三种题型:ISE(Identifying sentence errors,即挑错题)、IS(Improving sentences,即句子改进题)、IP(Improving paragraphs,即段落改进题),所有题目均为五选一。 如在 ISE的介绍中,对考生的要求是“The ability to recognize grammar and usage errors”,强调语法和固定用法的使用是否正确;而IS对考生的要求则变成了“the ability to recognize and write clear, effective and accurate sentences”,从语法知识转移到了
