Because my temperature was nearly 40 degree centigrade, I was asked to be in hospital. I worried about my business and the delay of signing the contact would lead to great losses to my company. However, After the doctors careful treatment and nurses 'capraet,ieI nwtas recovered only in 4 days.

I completed the negotiation with the food company smoothly and signed the contract on time finally. So I sincerely appreciate all the staffs in your hospital who helped me full-heatedly. I was deeply impressed by the kind doctors and nurses, the pleasant and comfortable environment, and considerate services. I have no relatives and friends in Beijing, but I felt at home in your hospital. I will always remember all those warmhearted persons and your hospital in my heart.

Best wishes to you all!

Faithfully yours,

David Smith

The private motor vehicle has given us a freedom our ancestors could not dream about. We can travel swiftly, and usually safely, over the roads which have been built to accommodate our cars. People can display their wealth by driving a car which may cost as much as another person '-sInhtroomdeu.ction:

advantages of cars (brief)

Sadly the car has become a disadvantage as well as a boom. The car pollutes the atmosphere, may be involved in serious accidents, and by its very numbers blocks roads and chokes cities. How can we reduce its use? - Brief statement of problem: disadvantages of cars

The car is only desirable if we can use it easily, so we might begin by reducing access

to parking spaces in the cities and simultaneously increasing the quality and availability of public transport. Cars could be banned form certain parts of the city, thus forcing people to walk or to use public transport. - Ideas for cutting the number of cars

The expense of buying and running a car can be raised. If the motorist is faced with a high purchase price, high road tax, high insurance premiums and substantial fines he or she may reconsider the purchase. A corresponding reduction in the price of public transport would help this financial argument against car ownership.

Neither of these arguments will sway the super rich who can afford the status cars, but it would perhaps encourage them to look at other ways of demonstrating their wealth. However we do it, reducing the number of cars on the road will reduce the problems of pollution and the congestion which can bring cities to a standstill. - Conclusions: states the benefits of reducing the number of cars

Are cars doing more harm than good?

Arguments

1. Cars are evils resulting from modernization, for they make people suffer rather than enjoy life.

2. Traffic accidents caused by cars not only bring death and injury, but also make people suffer mentally and psychologically.

3. Every year car owners have to pay vast sums to the exchequer: road tax, purchase tax, oil tax, etc. This is a big drain on their resources.

4. Since China has such a large population, the popularisation of private cars will only bring about 123ious social problems.

5. Cars should be done away with. We should try to find a safer means of transport which will bring joy and comfort rather than injury and death.

6. The roads are so often jammed with cars that ambulances and fire engines find it

difficult to fulfil their duties.

7. People's hidden frustrations and disappointments are brought to the surface when they drive.

8. Road networks for cars have not only made cities uninhabitable, but also desecrated the countryside.

9. Cars often produce air pollution and fill the cities with unbearable noise.

10. Cars are the cause of traffic accidents. All over the world thousands upon thousands of people are killed or injured every year.

Counter-arguments

1. Motor cars are highly desirable for obvious reasons. We should recognize this and adapt ourselves.

2. Motor cars enable people to become more mobile. Without cars, the world would still consist of isolated communities.

3. If there are more cars in China's rural areas, people can get to cities more easily. The gap between town and country will become smaller.

4. Possessinga car gives one a much greater degree of mobility, enabling him to move around freely.

5. The owner of a car is not forced to rely on public transport and is, therefore, not compelled to work locally.

6. Long distances can be covered rapidly and pleasantly.

7. Buses are often crowded and slow, especially during rush-hour. If there are more cars, people can get around more easily.

8. With the popularisation of cars, the suburbs will become more developed, and the downtown area will be less crowded.

9. Cars and motorists are not to blame for road accidents. Problems like too many road signs, faulty traffic lights, sudden narrowing of a street and congested parking are the real cause of traffic accidents.

10. There must be universal adoption of multi-storey and underground car parks so that car-parks won' t become a problem.

You should spend no more than 40 minutes on this task. You should write a minimum of 250 words. You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experienee to support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

写作段落大意:

1、Introduetion - short statement of opinion.

2、Body paragraph (1)(2) Different reasons to support opinion. (3) Statement of opposite point of view “balanees ” essay.

3、Conelusion - summarizes Body.

Model Answers:

1、Introduetion / opinion

Most of the jobs in soeiety that are high-paying,powerful ,and demand a lot of responsibility are held by men. I do not believe this situation arose beeause women are ineapable of doing high-level work. I believe soeiety eould benefit if more women were in postions of power and therefore I think the government should reserve a pereentage of these jobs for females.

2、Why should government eneourage a eertain % of high level jobs for women?

(first reason)Firstly, the problem of unfair employment distribution appears to eome from soeial eonvention and not eompetenee or true ability. At a young age most girls are not eneouraged to pursue politieal offiee, business sueeess, or professional prestige . On the other hand, boys are told to do these things. As a result, men hold the high level jobs but this does not mean they are very good at what they do. If the government set a quota for hiring women to do high level work, sueh as working in the government itself, then perhaps women would be more inspired to be ambitious in their life plans and eontribute to a less-than perfeet soeiety.

(seeond reason) Furthermore, regulations in the workplaee for hiring women would not be a new thing. Although not written or made into law, there seems to be

rules for who ean and eannot have high-level jobs. For instanee, if a man and a
