As a child, I was really afraid of the dark and of getting lost. These fears were very real and caused me some uncomfortable moments.

Maybe it was the strange way things looked and sounded in my own room at night that scared me so much. Smog is a big problem in many Chinese cities. Chai Jing, a former news hostess with CCTV, discussed it in her documentary Under the Dome (穹顶之下).

The 103-minute film was published on websites on Feb 28, 2015. In the film, Chai visits polluted places and talks to officials and scientists. She concludes that burning too much coal and oil is the main cause of PM2.5 and smog.
