A group of swans flew down to a beach where a crow(乌鸦) was jumping around. The crow watched them with disdain(鄙视).

Cao Wenxuan, a Chinese writer, has become world famous because of winning the Hans Christian Andersen Prize recently.

Born in 1954 in a small village in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, Cao spent his childhood in a poor family. He once studied at Beijing University and is now a

professor of Chinese literature and children's literature.

“When people achieve something, it is because they have a background, ”Cao told Xinhua soon after his award's announcement."And my background is China,"

he added."All of my stories are set in China, all of them are Chinese stories, but at the same time they are the stories of mankind."

Recently Cao's books have been making their way into the world and have found readers in Britain, France, Germany and Italy.

Cao hopes that the world will look at China's literature with a more fair mind, and that Chinese writers will make an effort to use a language that is suitable for translation, a communication style that can be understood by the whole world.

The German painter Sonja Danowski drew the pictures for Cao's "Grass Hut", a novel about a boy's primary school life ."I met Cao two years ago. He saw my works and liked the style. He thought that my style could be suitable for his books. " she told Xinhua."When receiving the English translation of Grass Hut, I read it and at once I knew that I wanted to draw the pictures, because during reading I already had them in my head ... It was very amazing .I love the Chinese mood," she added.

" Cao writes beautifully about the lives of children facing difficulties and great challenges. He also helps shape a literary tradition in China that honors the realities of children's worlds,," said Patricia Aldana, the Hans Christian Andersen Jury President 2016.
