A driver stopped his car on a street side to have a rest. As he lay down in the seat and closed his eyes, a man came up and knocked at the window to ask the time. The driver opened his eyes and looked at his watch. “It ’s 8 a.m., ”he said. Then he went to sleep again.

It was at least two months before Christmas, when nine-year-old Rose told her father and me the she wanted a new bike. Her Barbi bike was just too old, and it needed repairing as well.

On Christmas morning, we were so excited for Rose to open the little box with the beautiful red and white clay bike and the note. She opened and read the note loudly.
