Let’s Pursue Perfection

On the meaning of pursuing perfection, there are equally convincing instances of both its merits and problems. Some encourage the pursuit of perfection for it could be a strategy motivating innovation and success, as is illustrated by the example of Paul O’Neill, CEO OF the world’s safest industrial company Alcoa. While some disregard perfectionism as hurting self-esteem and performance of, ., pupils or learners of all levels. They believe that unhelpful perfectionism goes against high standards and that students need to aim at an A grade but never the highest A possible. Personally I see more benefit of pursuing perfection than the harm of it.

First of all, the pursuit of perfection is human nature. Ever since ancient times, such an enthusiasm drove mankind to seek more amount and higher quality of food, dressing, housing and entertainment. It drove the advancement of science and technology at an accelerating speed, witnessing, for instance, changes of communication means from the cart to steam engine, to cars and trains, to airplanes and space rockets. And today human beings have the common wish to pay sufficient attention to the protection of the environment, striving relentlessly for the quality of life instead of merely creating infinite wealth. Human civilization owes a lot to the desire to pursue perfection.

Secondly, the pursuit of perfection does work satisfactorily as a strategy to surpass difficulties on the road to success. Xue Qikun, vice-president of Tsinghua University and winner of first prize in the State Natural Science Award, once said “no one's journey to success is smooth sailing. My experience actually gave me the mental fortitude to pursue perfection in the face of challenges and a willingness to enjoy the rig orous process.” Likewise, a perfectionist’s mentality eventually helps one to overcome his shortcomings and achieve “missions impossible”.

Admittedly, perfectionism sometimes might go to extremes and undermine people’s performance. But properly leveraged, the pursuit of perfection could work wonders.

2011年 Should famous Chinese sites of historical interest charge higher fees during peak travel seasons? Nowadays, with the rapid development of tourism industry, it has become popular for quite some people to travel at vacation after a long period of heavy load of working. They come to some historical sites to relax themselves. At the same time, holiday is the busiest travel times of the year. Generally speaking, the famous Chinese sites of historical interest will charge higher fees during the time. Recently, a controversial viewpoint towards historic sites' higher charge that whether such action will hurt citizen's sentiment. My opinion is that it's worth charging higher fees. First of all, I firmly believe that it is necessary to charge higher fees. People could understand the meaning of life and the permanent value from these measures, then they will change their thinking style of study and work. Historical sites let people realize death is not far away and we should not waste our life. Moreover, when parents take their children to the historic interest, the children can learn knowledge of history rather than just playing there. At the same time they receive education. In fact,I think it is meaningful to go to Chinese sites of historical interest than to the playground. Last but not least, historical sites' complete preservation needs a large

Some people appreciate the bold innovation of the design, whereas others hold that the design should suit its local conditions and reflect its regional characteristics or cultural heritage. As far as I am concerned, I prefer the latter. Firstly, any urban design should take the city’s original cultural heritage into account. Functional and harmonious architectures are needed to suit the life of the people there. In a mountainous area, unconventional and super-futuristic buildings are incompatible with its landscapes and they usually prove to be unsuited to the climate. Besides, the disappearance of its original features may mean the disappearance of a period of history and even the disappearance of its symbol and identity. Secondly, the form of traditional buildings anywhere in the world is influenced by local climate and geology. Therefore, the design well suited to local conditions can save a lot of money. As a small developing mountainous area near Guiyang, it should try to take good advantage of its local resources. Over the centuries, the local materials have become the raw material used by sophisticated and expert craftsmen. If it falsely understood “progress”, wanted to be “modern” at any price, despised the outstanding features of its traditional culture and attempted to introduce reinforced concrete buildings, it would impose great pressure on its people. In addition, such buildings require expensive maintenance which is a heavy burden for its people. Thirdly, it will take a long period of time before local people can truly be accustomed to and appreciate the unconventional, super-futuristic buildings. Lived in the traditional buildings for generations, local citizens are very likely to feel uncomfortable and uneasy surrounded by such super-futuristic buildings, let alone to appreciate them.

The saga of the White Star liner Titanic, which struck an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage in 1912, carrying more than 1,500 passengers to their death, has been celebrated in print and on film, in poetry and song. But last week what had been legendary suddenly became real. As they viewed videotapes and photographs of the sunken leviathan, millions of people around the world could sense her mass, her eerie quiet and the ruined splendor of a lost age. Watching on television, they vicariously joined the undersea craft Alvin and Jason Jr. (J.J.) as they toured the wreckage of the luxury liner, wandering across the decks past corroded bollards, peering into the officers quarters and through rust-curtained portholes. Views of the railings where doomed passengers and crewmembers stood evoked images of the moonless night 74years ago when the great ship slipped beneath the waves. The two-minute videotape and nine photographs, all in color and shot 12,500ft.under the North Atlantic, were a tiny sample of 60 hours of video and 60,000 stills garnered during the twelve-day exploration. They are released at a Washington press conference conducted by Marine Geologist Robert Ballard, 44, who led the teams from the Wood Hole Oceanographic

专八作文范文 02: The Most Important Quality of a University Student Many people regard university as job-training centre which would help us get a better job. However in my view, the four years in university are also supposed to be character building period during which we can develop some important personal qualities that are necessary for success in the present-day society. Among them, passion in learning may be the most important. To begin with, a mobile society has a demand for those who can easily adapt to the latest development. As the world we live in is a fast-charging one, we constantly need to update our knowledge and skills. while many people grit their teeth to cram their minds with new stuff, whose who have developed a genuine passion in learning during their college years may make a virtue of necessity, deriving much pleasure from learning what is required by the latest developments in their fields. Moreover, passion in learning may also help to ward off the feeling of futility and emptiness, a typically modern disease caused by complicated reasons such as huge pressure and fierce competition in modern society. As human beings, we need more than material comforts to assert the value of our life. In China, where the belief in god is largely absent, a life-long pursuit for knowledge may be a god substitute for religion, for those devoted to learning will be better aware of the significance of their life by seeing themselves as those who pass on the torch of knowledge. In this way, learning may serve to head off psychological crises. In conclusion, one’s passion in learning bring benefit to individuals in a variety of ways, hence it is the most important quality of a university student. 03:Love, and Then Be Loved In recent years, more and more teachers complain that their students are indifferent to others. Some even worry that the young generation might ruin the future of China. To be sure, many of our young people

如何看待在校大学生打工(1) 【题目】 In some countries, teenagers have jobs while they are still students. Do you think this is a good idea? Support your opinion by using specific reasons and details. 【范文】 In many countries it is common for teenagers to take part-time jobs while they are still in high school, while in other societies this is virtually unheard of. In the latter situation, students are expected to spend all of their time on their studies and consider schoolwork their "job". In my opinion, students benefit more from a more balanced lifestyle, which may include working at a part-time job. Therefore, I believe that it is a good idea for students to work while studying. While it is true that a student's most important goal must be to learn and to do well at his studies, it does not need to be the only goal. In fact, a life which consists of only study is not balanced and may cause the student to miss out on other valuable learning experiences. In addition to bringing more balance to a student's life, part-time work can broaden his range of experience. He will have the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and will be faced with a wider variety of problems to solve. Furthermore, work helps a student to develop greater independence, and earning his own pocket money can teach him how to handle his finances. Finally, a part-time job can help a student to develop a greater sense of responsibility, both for his own work and for that of the team he works with. For all of these reasons, I firmly believe that most students would benefit from taking a part-time job while they are in high school. Of course, they must be careful not to let it take up too much of their time because study is still their primary responsibility. In sum, living a balanced life is the best way to be successful.

It may take the form of broadcast media, as in case of television and radio, or (1) print media, as newspapers and magazines. 2005 Interview is frequently used by employers as a means to recruit prospective employees. As a result, there have been many arguments for or against the interview as a selection procedure. What is your opinion? Write an essay of about 400 words to state your view. The Interview as a Selection Procedure Interview, as an important means to recruit employees, happens every day in our modern lives. Most students have received or will receive one or more after their graduation. Popular as it is, an interview raises plenty of arguments. Some people regard it as an efficient way while others think it is impossible to know a person's real ability and character in such a short time. In my opinion, it is a proper and effective way to recruit employees. To begin with, interviews provide employers as well as employees opportunities to learn about each other. In order to get the position, job hunters should present their excellent qualities and abilities and try their best to get the interviewer's attention and appreciation. A number of questions are carefully designed by the interviewer to figure out whether a candidate is qualified for the company or the position. Through the questions and answers, not only the job hunters' abilities, characters and hobbies are revealed, but also what the companies can give to the candidates are known, such as their salary, career future and so on . Secondly the interview embodies the concept of fairness. In the interview, all the candidates face the same situation. They are questioned and scored by the same group of interviewers, which makes the selection more objective and democratic. What's more, nothing else but personal ability matters and is the decisive factor to obtain the job. An interview is not only a procedure for companies to select new employees but also a procedure for job hunters to select their satisfied companies. As to the right to choose, employees and employers are equal. Thirdly, interviews broaden the choice range of both interviewers and interviewees. Companies that need a lot of talents can hold a big interview to look for the candidates they really want. If they can not find enough, they can hold another. The interviewees, on the other hand, can attend several interviews to find the most appropriate companies in which they wish to work and develop. To sum up, interviews have many advantages and before any better means are created, it is the best way to recruit employees. With the development of our society, it surely plays more and more important roles in making full use of the resources of talents.
