Post-00s is a documentary about growing up. It covers almost every aspect of Millennials' experiences on their path toward adolescence—their struggles with schoolwork, their relationship with peers, their confusion if a younger brother or sister is born into the family, and their growing desire to keep a distance from their parents. But this five-episode series was different from any other TV program with a similar theme.

Post-00s was filmed over a period of 10 years, during which the show's makers followed a group of kids from when they were infants through to when they became teenagers. In other words, the show's "characters" grow older for real, and their stories are all real.

"Coming-of-age" stories, as they're known, have a special appeal. They satisfy our curiosity of looking at someone else's life, and we become more and more attached to the characters as if we truly know them. And while we enjoy the truthfulness of the stories because nothing is set in advance, we also can't help but feel the cruelty of reality. After all, there's no re-writing of the script and there's no turning back—this is real life.

This realness can also be seen in Boyhood, a 2014 film that won the Silver Bear award for best director at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. During a period of 12 years, the film follows the life of Mason. Jr—played by US actor Ellar Coltrane—from when he was 6 to when he finished high school.

One of Boyhood's appeals comes from its "ordinariness". Mason Jr isn't some child genius... He is a quietly spoken, fairly typical American boy, growing up in the Texas suburbs. He likes riding his bike and playing video games.

While coming-of-age stories may look ordinary on the outside, they often allow us to look underneath the surface and see something extraordinary—the power of life itself.

24. In the documentary, we see post-00's growing experience EXCEPT ________.

A. how they deal with their studies

B. how they help look after brothers or sisters

C. how they get along with people of their age

D. how much they long to be independent of their parents

25. What do Post-00 and Boyhood have in common?

A. They're intended to win an award for best director.

B. The heroes and heroines are characters themselves.

C. They're a kind of reality show of ordinary kids' growth.

D. The stories are based on true life but polished by writers.

26. Audience are interested in "coming-of-age" stories because ______.

A. they can see the truth of life

B. they know the characters well

C. they are much fond of gossip

D. they appreciate stories of daily life

27. Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?

A. Post-00s are different geniuses.

B. Actors are ordinary characters.

C. Documentary is real life.

D. Life is one big story.

Wildlife officials in Utah have been stocking their remote mountain lakes by dropping fish from airplanes since 1956. And on Aug. 21, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) shared a video of them doing just that. In the video, the small fish erupt from the bottom of an airplane into the water.

It might seem like the fall from the plane would result in a fatal(致命的) end for the fish, but the Utah DWR explained that at least 95 percent of the fish are expected to survive. "That's because the young fish are so small—only 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.6 centimeters) long—that they fall to the water like leaves," said Phil Tuttle, the outreach manager for the southern region office of the Utah DWR.

"The pilot flies just above the tree line to drop the fish, or as low as possible while considering other natural barriers like cliffs and mountains," Tuttle told Live Science in an email. Years of netting surveys ( collecting fish in a net and counting them) and decades of recreational fishing suggest the fish do all right after the drop. Utah DWR staff members have also conducted netting surveys within minutes of a drop to check survival rates.

More than 200 of Utah's remote mountain lakes are stocked every year using this aerial(航空的) fish-drop method. The lakes are often far from any road and can take a long time to reach by land, which makes land transports more stressful for the fish compared with aerial transports.

Most of the stocked lakes would be fishless, were it not for the DWR's stocking efforts. The DWR primarily stocks lakes with sterile fish so they can control the population and minimize (减至最小) their impact on native wildlife species. The most common species to make these flights are various species of trout(鲑鱼).

28. What is the possible reason for the high survival rate of the fish?

A. Their thick skin.

B. Their small size.

C. Their strong body.

D. Their good appetite.

29. How can Utah DWR get to know the survival rates of the fish?

A. By doing netting surveys.

B. By counting natural barriers.

C. By recording the drop height.

D. By holding fishing competitions.

30. Why do Wildlife officials in Utah drop fish from airplanes?

A. It's the cheapest way available.

B. The lakes are unreachable by land.

C. It's better for the fish than land transports.

D. They want to train the fish in a special way.

31. What does the underlined word "sterile" in the last paragraph probably mean?

A. Fierce and aggressive.

B. Unable to produce babies.

C. Completely free from bacteria.

D. Energetic and good at jumping.

Last week, V odafone started a test of the UK's first full 5G service, available for use by businesses in Salford. It is part of its plan to trial the technology in seven UK cities. But what can we expect from the next generation of mobile technology?

One thing we will see in the preparation for the test is lots of tricks with the new tech. Earlier this year, operators paid almost£1.4 billion for the 5G wavelengths, and to compensate for that cash, they will need to catch the eye of consumers. In September, V odafone used its bit of the range to display the UK's first hologram(全息) call. The Manchester City captain Steph Houghton appeared as a hologram in Newbury. It isn't all holograms, however, 5G will offer faster internet access, with Ofcom(英国通讯管理局) suggesting that video that takes a minute to download on 4G will be available in just a second.

The wider application is to support connected equipment on the "internet of things"—not just the internet-enabled fridge that can reorder your milk for you, but the network that will enable driverless cars and delivery drones(无人机) to communicate with each other.

Prof. William Webb has warned that the technology could be a case of the emperor's new clothes. Much of the speed increase, he claims, could have been achieved by putting more money in the 4G network, rather than a new technology. Other different voices have suggested that a focus on rolling out wider rural broadband access and addressing current network coverage would be more beneficial to the UK as a whole.

Obviously, 5G will also bring a cost to consumers. It requires a handset for both 5G and 4G, and the first 5G-enabled smart phones are expected in the coming year. With the slow pace of network rollout so far, it is likely that consumers will end up upgrading to a new 5G phone well before 5G becomes widely available in the next couple of years.

32. Why does Prof. William Webb say "the technology could be a case of the emperor's new

clothes''?

A. He is in favor of the application of the new technology.

B. 5G will bring a cost to consumers in their daily life.

C. 5G helps people communicate better with each other.

D. He prefers more money to be spent on 4G networks.

33. The underlined word "addressing" in the fourth paragraph has the closest meaning to _____.

A. making a speech to

B. trying to solve

C. managing to decrease

D. responding to

34. The last paragraph indicates that _____.

A. it'll take several years to make SG accessible to the public in the UK

B. 5G service shows huge development potential and a broad market

C. customers are eager to use SG smart phones instead of 4G ones

D. it's probable that SG network rollout is speeding up in Britain

35. What do we know about the text?

A. V odafone is successful in spreading the 5G service.

B. Steph Houghton appeared as a hologram by 4G.

C. The application of 5G will make life much easier.

D. 5G phones are available in rural areas of the UK.

第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Identical twins are born when an egg divides into two, resulting in the birth of two children with identical genes. 36 Some believe, however, that there is also a close connection between twins in the way they think, not just in the way they look. Twins finish each other's sentences, and share the same tastes in clothes or music. Some have argued that identical twins have mysterious, even psychic, powers.

Although many identical twins claim to know what the other is thinking, there is no evidence to suggest that this is because of special powers. 37 Most of' us have met up with a brother or sister, or close friend, and immediately asked, "What's wrong?" because we have unconsciously recognized, in their facial expression, that they are upset in some way. Signs we would miss in a stranger's behavior are instantly obvious in the way those close to us act. It is hardly surprising that twins notice the way their brother's or sister's facial expressions or body language gives away how they feel. Indeed, the closeness of' their bond is likely to improve this ability over the years.

The media is full of' stories in which a twin senses her brother or sister to be in trouble.

38 Damien Croft developed a bad headache one evening and, concerned, felt the need to phone his brother to check if' everything was OK. When there was no reply, he drove to his brother's home, only to find him unconscious, having had an epileptic (癫痫症) fit and fallen from a ladder while decorating. On the face of it, his sixth sense had saved the day. 39 Damien knew his brother was decorating, and knew that he was prone to epileptic fits. Subconsciously concerned, he had just imagined the worst-case situation. 40

A. We all know such twins are often very similar in appearance.

B. The fact that something awful had happened was only a coincidence.

C. In contrast, there are many other stories which can be more easily explained.

D. In truth, of course, the events might also be explained in more ordinary terms.

E. Recent studies show the reasons of all those cases of mysterious happenings between identical

twins.

F. In a recent, widely-reported case, for example, a young man survived a horrific fall thanks to a feeling his twin is supposed to have had.

G. A more believable explanation is that, like any pair of' people who have grown up together,

they are just good at understanding the thought processes behind what their twin does.
