In the reading, it mainly talks about that Rorbot E Peary has been to north pole because it has three striking evidneces. However, in the lecture, the professor thinks that the points provided in the reading are not convencing.

First of all, the reading points out that at the end of the investigation, the committee has concluded that Rorbot E Peary has been to the north pole. Nevertheless, the professor believes that the committee was not objective at all. Firstly, it was writed by his friends. What’s more, the investigation only msintained for two days and they can get precise conclusion in such a short time. So the committee is biased.

In addition, the reading states that the English explorer Tom Avery has proved the truth that the Rorbot E Peary could reach the north pole within 37 days. On the contrary, the professor argues against that there are many distinguishment between the Rorbot and Tom, because at that time, Rorbot had no food and met the most server weather, which will make them late to reach the north pole.

Finally, the reading concludes that there existd a old phote which was be taken at that time and from the photos, scientists can ensure that the site in the photo was the norht pole. By contrast, the professor objects that the photo can not prove that the Rorbot has been to the north pole because the photo was very old and the scence can not be precisely presented because them use old fishioned ceamar.

TEST1 Altruism is a type of behavior in which an animal sacrifices its own interest for that of another animal or group of animals. Altruism is the opposite of selfishness; individuals performing altruistic acts gain nothing for themselves. Examples of altruism abound, both among humans and among other mammals. Unselfish acts among humans range from the sharing of food with strangers to the donation of body organs to family members, and even to strangers. Such acts are altruistic in that they benefit another, yet provide little reward to the one performing the act. In fact, many species of animals appear willing to sacrifice food, or even their life, to assist other members of their group. The meerkat, which is a mammal that dwells in burrows in grassland areas of Africa, is often cited as an example. In groups of meerkats, an individual acts as a sentinel, standing guard and looking out for predators while the others hunt for food or eat food they have obtained. If the sentinel meerkat sees a predator such as a hawk approaching the group, it gives an alarm cry alerting the other meerkats to run and seek shelter. By standing guard, the sentinel meerkat gains nothing—it goes without food while the others eat, and it places itself in grave danger. After it issues an alarm, it has to flee alone, which might make it more at risk to a predator, since animals in groups are often able to work together to fend off a predator. So the altruistic sentinel behavior helps ensure the survival of other members of the meerkat’s group. Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they oppose specific points made in the reading passage. TEST2 Professors are normally found in university classrooms, offices, and libraries doing research and lecturing to their students. More and more, however, they also appear as guests on television news programs, giving expert commentary on the latest events in the world. These television appearances are of great benefit to the professors themselves as well as to their universities and the general public. Professors benefit from appearing on television because by doing so they acquire reputations as authorities in their academic fields among a much wider audience than they have on campus. If a professor publishes views in an academic journal, only other scholars will learn about and appreciate those views. But when a professor appears on TV, thousands of people outside the narrow academic community become aware of the professor’s ideas. So when profes sors share their ideas with a television audience, the professors’ importance as scholars is enhanced. Universities also benefit from such appearances. The universities receive positive publicity

As the economy and technology develop at an incredible speed in today’s society, there are an increasing number of people believing that the most important problems affecting our society today could be solved within our lifetime. In my view, however, this is out of the question and the three most significant problems affecting the society, namely war, environmental destruction and disease, will still influence us and may not be entirely resolved forever. War is a problem afflicting humans since they took into being in the first place. Wars take place when different countries have conflicting benefits, which is unlikely to be eliminated as long as the boundaries between countries still exist. For instance, in the Middle East where water is extremely scarce, many countries are in conflict in contention for water resources. Since every country acts for the sake of its own benefit, it seems that people in the region are incapable of living together in harmony. Eternal world peace, therefore, is unlikely to be achieved in our lifetime. Environmental destruction emerged not long before but it is becoming increasingly severe and can not be ignored. With the large-scale utilization of fossil fuels and rapid development of industry, huge amounts of pollutants are being produced, contaminating the environment to a large degree. The disposal of these pollutants being a tough task, it is hardly possible that we can completely get rid of them within a short period of time. Furthermore, even if we can come up with optimal methods for dealing with these substances, there remains the problem that these methods may cost too much and obstruct the development of economy. Last but not least, the well-being of people around the world is threatened by a variety of diseases, ranging from AIDS to cancer, the cures for which have not been discovered yet. Diseases set off panics among humans, affect their normal life and leave people badly off with the high medical expenses. There are thousands of scientists devoting themselves to finding cure for diseases, but new types of diseases keep emerging and there is no eliminating all of them. In summary, the problems with the most significance today are going to be passed on to our offspring. To eliminate these problems thoroughly, there is still a long way to go.

Archaeologists have been trying to determine how the buildings were used. While there is still no universally agreed upon explanation, there are three competing theories. One theory holds that the Chaco structures were purely residential, with each housing hundreds of people. Supporters of this theory have interpreted Chaco great houses as earlier versions of the architecture seen in more recent Southwest societies. In particular, the Chaco houses appear strikingly similar to the large, well-known "apartment buildings" at Taos, New Mexico, in which many people have been living for centuries.

Integrated Writing Glass is a favored building material for modern architecture, yet it is also very dangerous for wild birds. Because they often cannot distinguish between glass and open air, millions of birds are harmed every year when they try to fly through glass windows. There are, however, several solutions that responsible businesses can use to prevent injuries to birds. One-Way Glass One solution is to replace the regular, clear glass with one-way glass that is transparent in only one direction. The occupants of the building can see out, but birds and others cannot see in. If birds cannot see through a window, they will understand that the glass forms a solid barrier and will not try to fly through it. Colorful Designs A second solution is to paint colorful lines or other designs on regular window glass. For example, a window could have a design of thin stripes painted over the glass. People would still be able to see through the openings in the design where there is no paint, while birds would see the stripes and thus avoid trying to fly through the glass. Architects can be encouraged to include colorful painted patterns on glass as part of the general design of buildings.

Tpoic: to improve the quality in education, universities should spend more money on salaries for university professors. As the qualities of education in the universities become unconvincing than before, a increasing amount people nowadays are concernin whether there exist space for universities to improve. The Most part of them tend to believe that in order to improve the qualities of the education, universities should spend more money on professors’ salaries while others state that the universities should spend it on other fields. Therefore, the controversial issue has been engaged that which field should be invested in to improve the qualities of education makes a widely debate. However, as for me, there is no aoubt that the universities should give the priority to vacational training and recruiting.for news. It is universally acknowledged that recruting the new professors to the universities can improve the qualities of the education. In majority of the universities, many professors are in mid-age or even old. Some of them reluctant to learn or acquire new thing anymore because they think they were good enough. Recruting more new professors not only can help and motivate older professors to learn sonrthing new but also can enhance their educational power among other universities. As you can predict, it is unsviodable that it will bring a virtuous compotition between the younger professors and older professors. Youngers can drow on older’ experience and older can contact and learn new concepts, which can improve the qualities of education entirely. No one could disavow that holding the regular vacational training for professors can prominently improve the educational qualities. In the contemporary socirty, the knowledge is changing in a stagger rate and many professors can not obtain the lastest knowledge to refresh themselves, which definitely lead the qualities of education decline because the students can not absorb something new. Therefore, the best way to improve the qualities of education is that let professors acquire the lastest knowaedge in time- receiving the vacational training regularly. After recharging, professors can instill a great load of new things to students, which can give a competitive eage both for professors and students and it also can make a huge progess in the qualities of education as well. In conclusion, though improving the salariesof the professors is a considerable choice, there is no better way to hold regular vacational training and recruit new professors than to improve the qualities of education in the universities.

The reading passage explores the topic of the “Let it burn” policy. The professor’s lecture deals with the same issue. However, she thinks that the “Let it burn”policy is fundamental positive policy, which contradicts what the reading states. And in the lecture, she uses three specific points to support her idea. First, the professor argues in the lecture that the fire enhanced the diversity of vegetation in Yellowstone Park, even though the reading passage suggests that Yellowstone fires caused tremendous damage to the park's trees and other vegetation. This is because that the fire has created a opportunity for some new plants to grow, for instance, the small plants which needed open un-shaded area and the seeds which demanded high levels of heat to germinate, which means that the small vegetations would had a better environment after the large trees had been destroyed. Obviously, the professor's argument disproves its counterpart in the reading. Moreover, despite the statement in the reading that the park wildlife was affected, and there was also concern that the destruction of habitats and food chains, the professor states that the fire also created new opportunities for some animals’ thriving that the population could recover and strengthened certain food chains. Then he supports this point with the fact that, for example, the new plants offered perfect habitats for some animals like rabbits and hares, and promote their predators’ booming the

When a practical goal is involved, however, Benjimin Franklin may best be regareded as a role model in this respect and asking people for advice often turn out to be the prime alternative. Experience and knowledge borrowed or learned from others’ advice contribute greatly to effectiveness and effeciency for a goal-accomplishment. Not all experience and knowledge related to problem-solving can be obtained by personal effort alone due to limitations of mind and capabilities of each individual. A single thought in someone’s mind is, more often than not, far less shining compared with group ’s wisdom. That explains the famous old saying that one sees further when standing upon the shoulders’ of past great giants; that explains why a great leader is always with greater minds; that also explains why teamwork in corperation is highly emphasized in the 21st century. Brainstorm and exchange of ideas between different thoughts never fail to enhance capabilities of each individula involved, a team, a company, an institution, a country, or even the entire global village. Asking others’ advice instead of getting everything done on one’s own promotes democracy and communication too. In terms of democracy, it is necessary to give others rights and chances to speak since the problem may concern them in different ways, and their saying in turn reflects our respect toward freedom of speech as well as their wisdom. In terms of communication, idea exchange sometimes focuses more than solutions, and hereby better mutual understanding about perspectives, principles, praticalities and personalities of each other. Admittely turning to others for help and suggestion by no means refers to absolute and irresponsible dependence. Consideration upon different thoughts and ideas broadens our mind, enlarges our vision, furthers understanding, enhances more effective and efficient brainstorm, and stresses mutual respect in groups and communities, which undoubtedly gives rise to better, if not the best solutions. As is paraphrasedfrom John F Kenedy, brainstormed, there is little we cannot do while divided, there is little we can do. (2) Case of Benjinin Franklin, gathering great minds under one roof and then establishing a most world-renown libray.
