1. 同性恋

A: Y eah, gay-marriage. It’s no big deal.

B: What? Don’t you think it’s crazy? Two women? Gross!

A: Come on! Don’t judge other people’s way of life. Besides, homosexuality is nothing new nowadays. Everyone has the right to pursue happiness.

B: But that’s the American thinking. Westerners can be open and crazy, anyway, I just don’t see as many gays or lesbians in our country.

A: That’s not true. The famous Hongkong actor and singer Zhang Guorong, who commited suicice was a gay. And Jia Jingwen, who was engaged in a divorce scandal last year, has rencently come out and admitted the relationship with her girlfriend. And believe it or not, I saw two boys walking hand in hand on the campus the other day.

B: Well, the thing is that gay marriage isn’t legal in China, right? It’s true that time has changed now, people are free to make their own choices as long as it does no harm to the soceity, but compared to the western countries, we are still a very traditional nation.

A: Yeah, I agree. Gay couples can legally get married in Argentina, Spain, Sweden and some states in America and so on, but in China, the legalization of gay marridge is out of the question even in a hundred years. But I don’t think this means gays shoud be treated with less respect, they are the same as us.

B: Abosolutely not. Homosexuality is kind of phisical and mental distortion. Do you know it actually has negative effects on the society? It increases risk of AIDS in the worst case.

A: I know that. And I don’t mean that gay marriage shoud be supported. I’m just saying that when such things do occur around us, we should try to be understanding.

A: Hey, come and have a look at my resume!

B: Y our resume? (接过简历看了看)

A: What do you think of it?

B: It looks quite professional. Not bad!

A: Y eah, I’ve spent the whole moring making this.

B: But why are you preparing a resume?

A: Y ou see, there is going to be a job fair in the lecture hall tomorrow and many big companies will come. I’d like to go and have a try.

B: But we are not supposed to go job-hunting now. There is a lot of study work at school and our superciser told us not to waste our time. Even a free-lance job will distract us from study.

A: Relax. I’m not really looking for a job. I just want to know what kind of company will be interested in me and I need to figure out what criteria I should meet to get an ideal position in the future.

B: Oh, I see. So what kind of job do you want? High-paid, little stress and lots of free time?

A: Well, that’s what everyone dreams of, I guess. But let’s be realistic. As we are majored in communication engineering, I hope to get a job in the relevant field where I can use the knowledge I learned here.

B: So you want to do some pragmatic work, like a software engineer?

A: Y eah, I think so.

B: That’s cool. Y ou know I think we are lucky, because telecommunication is among the several industries that offer the highest salaries, others being finance, computer services and software devlopment.

A: Actually salary isn’t the factor I care most. I just want my job to be in an friendly environment.

I mean I don’t wish to face intense competition and live under pressure everyday. Y ou know as

reported in the news, the salary in Foxcon is great, but a series of employee suicices there is too horrible!

B: Y eah, I feel sorry for them.

A: Me, too. So for me, maybe doing research work in an instution is an ideal choice. I t’s stable and I will have time to travel, cook my own meals and read the book I like.

B: Sounds nice!

A: What about your career planing?

B: I don’t know. Maybe I will go on with my study and try to get a master degree. I am not avoiding from work, it’s just that I like being in the shool so much and I enjoy the acdemic pursuit.

B: Y ou see, a good friend of mine has just asked me to substitute for her to sit the CET-6 next week. She said this would be her last chance and begged me to help.

A: Then, what did you say?

B: We are good friends, and this exam is really important for her. I said OK. But there’s part of me beginning to regret now.

A: Of course you would regret! It’s not about your friendship, it’s about acdemic integrity.

B: Acdemic integrity?

A: yeah, the moral code we should hold on to. It’s the opposite of acdemic dishonesty.

B: I know that plagiarism is an act of dishonesty.When writing an article, we can use other person’s ideas by quoting or paraghasing, but if we fail to properly cite the source, it’s like stealing from others.

A: Y o u’re right. To put this matter another way, as money is the currency of the banking industry, ideas are the "currency" of higher education. Plagiarism is as serious as embezzlement. Still, cheating in exams is also a shameful compromise of acdemic integrity.

B: Y eah, those who get higher marks by cheating, especially in important exams that may change one’s course of career or even fate, are morally degraded people and should face severe punishment. And if they get away with it, well, that is too cruel for those working hard and acting upright.

A: That’s why we have the surveilance cameras in the classrooms, strict rules for exam procedure

and serious punishment for cheating on this campus.

B: Y es. But every now and then some loopwholes in the supervision system indulge the unethical behavior and create tragedy for the innocent.

A: And it’s really disheatening to see various advertisements on the walls or on the Internet that guarantee special help to pass qualification exams provided a certain sum of money is paid. B: Y eah, that’s disgusting! If I was the minister of education, I would launch a sweeping campaign to purify the whole educational institution and start with proposing a law that gives criminal sentence to exam cheaters.
