The feeling of 《pride and prejudice》

As a novel of the 18 century，《pride and prejudice》is really special. In my mind，the novel of 18 century is always full of sharp contradictions and the character is always divided into two parts——good guys or bad guys . But in this novel，except the liar Wickham，it’ s hard to divide somebody into absolute bad guys. Just some are stupid and ridiculous，but some are wise and kind. They have different characters and faiths ，so they have different attitudes toward marriage. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are the present of the latter，while Collins is the present of the former.

The main topic of the novel is that love and money，which is more important in a marriage？I think Charlotte’s choice told us the marriage without love is a tragedy，while Lydia and Wickham told us the marriage without both love and money is a farce. So maybe the Jane Austen wants to tell us that both love and money are important in a marriage，otherwise，she would not have describe the leading man to be such a rich young man. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth’ marriage is the best. I want to say, they are lucky that they can choose each other.

The characters have their own personalities. Mrs. Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters. She is a realistic woman and a nagging mum. Mr. Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr. Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior. But I think he is just lacking initiative. Even the five daughters in Bennet

family are very different. Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. Mary likes reading classic books. (Actually she is a pedant.) Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. I really do not like the mean girl.

To be honest，I’ m not such a wise people to think about the class problem. What I think of first of all is that it’s a pure love story. Different from many other classical novel，the love in the novel is not so complicated. It is pure and the environment is full of smell of country. In my opinion ,《pride and prejudice》is very different from other classical novels. It seems more similar to modern novels because of its humor and relaxed tone.
