一.T he analysis of the teaching material

I.Status and Function

The main activities are 1a, 2 and 3a.This topic around the subject of health, the topic 1 is to review how to use English to talk about various parts of the body uncomfortable, and advice of expression. modal verb:should, shouldn 't, had better and had better not are the language focus. So learn this topic well will take a good foundation for the next subject to the students to introduce healthy life habit.

II.Teaching Aims and Demands

1.Knowledge objects

A.Learn some useful words and expressions:

have a cold, toothache, dentist, cough, take a rest, fever, flu, headache, at night, coffee, tea, lift

B.Help the students to learn the modals for giving advice:

(1)You should see a dentist.

(2)You shouldn’t drink coffee or tea in the evening.

C.Talk about illnesses.

D.Learn to express sympathy for a patient and give some ad vice to the patients.

2.Ability objects

A.Train the students ability of induction

B.Help Ss to develop their confidence,give full play to Ss in the course of teaching.

C.Through competition with each group,promote their cooperative techniques.

3.Emotion objects

A. To train their team spirit by working in groups.

B. To arouse the students’ i nterest in class activities.

III.Key Points and Difficult Points

1.Students may find it difficult to remember all the target new words in the class

2.Students may find it difficult to give appropriate advice to the certain disease because of their limited life experience.

The teaching syllabus says that it’s necessary for teachers to use modern teaching facilities.It’s of great help to increase the class density and improve our teaching result.It can also make the Ss reach a better understanding of the text by making the classes lively and interesting.At the same time,it arouses the Ss’ interest in learning English.

四.T eaching procedures

Step1 Lead-in

Though review the last topic about sports,lead to the hot topic about health.

T: Good morning,everyone, now we know something about the 2008 Olympics.I want to ask you some questions. Do you like sports?

S1: Yes, very much.

T: What sports do you often do in your free time?

S2: I often play basketballl.

S3: Sometimes I play football with my classmates.

S4: I like swimming in summer.

T: Why do you like sports?

S5: Sports can make us strong and healthy.

T: I think so. Great! Doing sports is a good way to keep healthy. Do you agree with me?

S6: Yes!

T: In this lesson, let’s talk about health.

T: How are you feeling today, S7?

S7: I’m fine, thank you, and you?

T: I’m not so well. I think I have a headache.

T: What should I do?

S8:You should go to see a doctor.

T:Thank you.Today we will learn”You’d better go to see a doctor”.

Purpose: activate the Ss to regard the topic of “You'd better go to see a doctor” and create a relaxing atmosphere.

Step 2 Presentation

1.Now, please listen to 1a and answer the following questions.

a.What’s wrong with Kangkang?

b.What does Betty advice him to do?

2.Then the students finish their task.

S1: Kankang has a toothache.

T:Right,he has a toothache.What does Betty advice him to do?

S2:He should see a dentist.

Form this conversation,teach them two words:toothache,dentist.

Purpose: through listening and answer questions, to arouse Ss learning interest, and help them to learn the new words phrases and grammer which they may come across while learning, pave the way for the following learning and cultivate the ability of anticipating.

Step 3 Consolidation

1. Listen to 1a again and ask Ss to follow and imitate it. Pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation.

2. Ask the Ss discuss and make a similar conversation with their partner.

3. Use modal verb:should/should not make several sentences.

a.You should have a good rest.

b.You should not eat too much candy.

c.You should go to bed earlier.

Purpose: This process is aim to develop Ss’ listening and speaking abilities. Skimming for the main idea of the article and then get a deep understanding of the article.

Step 4 Practice

1.According to the dialoges of topic 1 and make a dialogue. You can use the following sentences:

① What’s wrong with …..

② I have……

③ You look pale.

④ I’m feeling terrible.

⑤ I’m sorry to hear that.

(7)You should/had better…

Now, who want to be the first to act out the dialog?

(When your classmates act out the dialog, you must listen carefully and fill in the table. Then I’ll check your answers.)

Purpose: Through group work, cultivate the spirit of cooperation, and train the ability of solve problem by themselves. In class, the teacher is just a guide, while the Ss are the center, while, the teacher just join them, giving suggestions, and offering help when they need. Meanwhile, ask the Ss to retell the article, is an output, and it can evaluates how well the Ss learned in this lesson. Step 5 Homework
