讲座人1：麦克简介
麦克（Michael Oviedo，简称Mike，下图中）为厦门大学长期聘请的美籍英语外教，“外研社杯”（原CCTV杯）全国英语演讲大赛厦大集训队总教练。美国德州农工大学（Texas A & M University, College Station）哲学硕士。
曾任教安徽工业大学的麦克带领该校一名选手在2008年CCTV杯全国英语演讲大赛中进入中央电视台演播大厅并出人意料地获得第12名。2009年他受聘厦大并负责该校英语演讲集训队，带领一名非英语专业选手进入CCTV杯全国英语演讲大赛全国半决赛。2010年，他指导两位选手创造了福建省大学生参加该项赛事史上最佳战绩（胡骏：第2名；张蕾：第21名，此前省内最好成绩为全国第10名），并获得外研社颁发的“教练特殊贡献奖”，还获邀前往英国牛津大学曼斯菲尔德学院参加ESU国际关系会议。教学之余，他积极总结并与其他院校同行以及参赛选手无偿分享英语演讲赛事训练和指导经验，并正在撰写《英语演讲赛事训练指南》一书。

When English-speaking competitions become more competitive, all the students in Fujian benefit. Not only do they have great models to emulate, but also those models set goals for them to surpass. competition to me is about allowing every student in China the opportunity to compete on an equal playing field no matter where that student studies. It is about providing students who may not have many opportunities the keys to the kingdom. Most importantly, however, it is about developing young minds who will lead China in the future and providing them with a forum to share their ideas with their peers.
