考点规范练18(必修4 Unit 3)

Ⅰ.阅读理解

A

A culture’s values can be mirrored by its humor.Humor has been evaluated by many great minds such as Thomas Hobbes, who disliked humor,“Laughter is nothing else but sudden glory arising from sudden thought of feeling far better than others.”He thought humor to be a negative quality of human narrow-mindedness.

However,Mordechai Gordon,Ph.D of Education, insists,“Humor allows us to view the world from an angle that is amusing rather than serious.”I agree with

Gordon.Learning to look at the world through humor is important.

In the United States, every four years an election occurs.Without humor as a way to express their feelings, how else would Americans keep from clawing(爪) their eyes out and going the way of learning?Television shows like “The Daily Show”have become important parts of American culture. They are mothering the masses. They make politics fun.

Of course, politics is only one type of humor.Social humor helps people through the twists and turns of the human condition.American pop culture promotes an unhealthy self-image.On the topic of self-image,Hari Kondabolu stands out.He has a joke about the popular musical group “The Pussycat Dolls”,describing their hit song “Don’t Cha” as a negative representation of women. He points out an obvious offence in American culture.

A study from Loyola University of Maryland has shown that humor is one determining factor for selecting a mating partner.Amongst other things, mates look for an outstanding funny bone in a potential partner.

Of course, humor is not always used for good purposes.Humor can be linked to vulgarity(庸俗)and racism, but, like everything else,it has potential to unite human beings by allowing us to laugh at ourselves, our failures and our connection with one another.

Though life may seem tough and depressing at times, all I have to do is look in the mirror at my increased wrinkles(皱纹)to know that there is a comedy out there

that even Chaplin wasn’t aware of.

With that in mind, remember to laugh with humanity and sometimes at humanity.

Imagine having to take more than 40 pills every day and never eating ice cream or other delicious food.Welcome to my life!

In the spring of 2012,I was diagnosed(诊断) with a condition called IBD(炎性肠病).And I was shocked to learn that it doesn’t have a cure.

That autumn, things got even worse. My condition became so severe that I had to have three surgeries(手术) over the course of seven months o remove my colon(结肠).I was in a lot of pain afterward, but the surgeries helped prevent the disease from hurting me even more.

While I was in the hospital,I was so weak that I had to lie in bed a lot to rest and sleep. But I was able to entertain myself by pulling pranks on the nurses.I’d say to them,“Have you seen Fluffy?”and they’d ask,“Who’s Fluffy?”I’d be

like,“It’s my pet dog,and he’s on the loose!”

Animals weren’t allowed in the hospital,so the serious look on their faces was priceless!Afte r a few moments,I’d tell them I was only joking—and they’d smile.

I know that a lot of the details about IBD are very unpleasant, but I don’t focus on that part.If you try,you can see the funny side of everything. When I first started feeling better,I wasn’t in good enough physical condition to play sports, but I wanted to do something. So I gathered the courage to try stand-up comedy during a

local open night.

I framed the way I lost my colon as if I were breaking up with it.I was

like:“It’s not you,it’s me...I just think we want different things right now.I want to live. No,no,there’s no other colon.”I got huge laughs! And I’ve been performing stand-up regularly ever since.

5.What do we know about IBD?

B.There is no known cure for it.

C.It takes a long time to be cured.

D.There are some effective cures for it.

Ⅱ.七选五

Five biggest career mistakes young workers make

When you begin to dive into the working world, there are a few common mistakes you should try to avoid.

1.

Whether it’s asking for a raise or just voicing an opinion,it’s important to stand up for yourself in the office. As long as you do it in a respectful and professional way, your colleagues will be impressed by your confidence.

Goofing off(混日子)

You may think no one is looking at what you’re doing all day,but the fact is your computer screen can be seen by all who pass by.2. Even though your boss

may seem relaxed,he’s not going to appreciate an employee who seems to care more about his friend’s status updates than his actual work.

Dressing inappropriately

3. If you dress too casually, you could be sending the wrong message to your co-workers.Just because you have it doesn’t mean the office is the place to wear

it.If you want to be taken seriously, dress seriously.

Being late for work

You could be the hardest worker in the office or do extra work at home, but if you are consistently late for work, you give off the impression that you’re lazy.4.

Your professional reputation is a vital part of getting ahead in your industry and being late for work sounds unimportant, but could result in all your hard work being gradually ignored.

Acting too confidently

It is a common issue with young professionals. It is sometimes hard for recent college graduates to change from top-of-the-food-chain seniors to professional “freshmen.”5. In addition, you must know your place in the company.

A.Being afraid to speak up

B.Talking nervously and unprofessionally

C.One thing that can either help or hurt you is how you present yourself.

D.Now that you are out of the college, you must remember to be modest.

E.Sometimes,it can be difficult to be taken seriously as a young professional.

F.So it’s important to limit the am ount of time you spend on non-work-related sites.

G.People notice who stays late and who comes in early and will form an opinion about you.

2017高考英语阅读练习题3

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 A Men have always believed that they are smarter than women. Now, a study has found that while this is certainly true, men also have to deal with the fact that they are also more stupid than the fairer sex. In the study, scientists measured the IQ of 2500 brothers and sisters and they found an uneven number of men not only in the top two percent, but also in the bottom two percent. The study's participants were tested on science, maths, English and mechanical abilities. Though there were twice as many men as women in the smartest group, there were also twice as many men among the dolts. The aggregate scores of men and women were similar. One of the study's authors, psychology professor Timothy Bates, said that the phenomenon may be because men have always been expected to be high achievers and women have been restricted to spend more time taking care of their home. "The female developmental program may be tilted more towards ensuring survival and the safety of the middle ground.," the Daily Mail quoted Professor Bates, of Edinburgh University, as saying. The research tallies with past results that men were more likely than women to receive first class University degrees or thirds and women secured the seconds. It has been said that men are more ready to take risk when it comes to academics. Women have always found to be steadier in their learning. A past study has shown that women are securing more firsts and seconds, while men are continuing to receive more thirds. The argument for the change is that the increase of coursework at the cost of exams favors women's steady approach. 1. The purpose of the passage is to tell us that ________. A. man are smarter then women B. man are more stupid the women C. a new fact about the IQ of men and women has been found D. men are more likely to receive first class university degrees 2. According to Timothy Bates, less women are in the smartest group because _________. A. they are born stupid B. they have to spend more time to tale care of their home than men C. they don’t like to take risk D. they are not expected to be high achievers 3. The underlined word tallies with in the eighth paragraph means________. A. agree with B. deal with C. go against D. go with 4. It can be inferred from the passage that______. A. Women are steadier in their learning. B. men are more ready to take risk in everything C. women are securing more firsts and seconds D. women are doing much better in academy 5. 训练4 议论文 A (2016·威海二模) It's Nice to be Home 1 I have been fortunate enough to make trips to many countries. They were wonderful adventures filled with new sights and experiences. And my wife and I have another trip in the planning stages. We're home now and have settled back into our daily routine of life. 2 I find that when I am at home, particularly for a while when we have just returned from a trip,I feel very comfortable.Perhaps it is because everything around me is familiar and the daily routine is so much the same I can move through it almost without thinking. 3 Perhaps it is because we can have meals at home instead of always being in restaurants, although it's nice to let someone else do the cooking, and because I can sleep in my own bed. There are times I think it would be nice to simply stop travelling and stay home and I'm sure I would be very comfortable if that were to happen. 4 Yet I guess I am probably a restless soul because I know that after I have been home for a while I will start to think about other places we might go and other things we want to see.We will travel again and we feel fortunate to be able to do so. 5 Still, one of the best things about travelling for me is coming home.I'm very comfortable here at home even if it is difficult to say exactly why. A.I like to travel very much. B.I enjoy local food while travelling. C.I like being home, for whatever reason. D.Perhaps it is because our friends are here. E.And I enjoy my daily life at home so much. F.We want to see as much of the world as we can. 高优指导(全国通用)2017高考英语一轮复习 考点规范练32 unit 2 robots 新人教版选修7

考点规范练32(选修7 Unit 2) Ⅰ.阅读理解 A Robots have proven very useful in different situations. But those robots are small remote-controlled tanks with a mechanical arm,and they can get hung up on narrow stairwells(楼梯井) and are stopped by ladders.“A lot of the places where you do disaster recovery are only accessible for people,”says Marc Raibert, the president of Boston Dynamics, which is providing advice and help for Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency(DARPA)—the scientific research department of the U.S. military(军队)—to create the most advanced robots on earth.“If you’re a humanoid—a machine or creature with the appearance and qualities of a human—access can be increased and you can use available tools.”In the future DARPA hopes,a humanoid robot will be able to drive trucks, and enter power plants. That future is a long way off.Simple movements like squatting(蹲) are almost impossible for something with metal parts and skin that cannot bend, says Raibert.Still, recent progress is impressive enough that the military has begun to bet on legged bots. The Office of Naval Research is working with Virginia Tech on a humanoid firefighting robot, and Dynamics showed off two of its latest projects:Cheetah,a four-legged robot capable of running 28 miles per hour, and the Legged Squad Support System,a big and awkward headless robot funded by DARPA and the Marine Corps to help carry things in places like mountain areas. “Half the land on earth is too rough, sandy,or rocky for wheeled things,”says Raibert.“Humans and animals can go to t hose places. They are the only examples of successful systems that do what we’re trying to do.” None of the walking robots is meant to fight. They’re designed to put out fires and clean up industrial accidents. But they are all funded by the military.“I’m wel l aware of how the world works,”says Dennis Hong, founding director of Virginia Tech’s robotics lab.“Robots for me are tools to help society, not to fight in wars. But once a technology leaves our lab, there’s no way to control how people can use it.” 1.In Mar c Railbert’s opinion, robots need to be designed like humans to . A.accomplish complex tasks B.be controlled efficiently C.survive disasters D.appear friendly 2.Which of the following is most likely to be Cheetah? 3.The underlined word “They”in Paragr aph 3 most probably refers to .
