BBC News with Michael Powles.

The American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said the Iranian nuclear scientist Shahram Amari, who turned up at the Iranian Interests Section of the Pakistani embassy in Washington,is and always has been free to go home.

"Mr Amiri has been in the United States of his own free will, and he is free to go.In fact,he was scheduled to travel to Iran yesterday, but was unable to make all of the necessary arrangements to reach Iran through transit countries."

Iran says the scientist was abduct ed by the CIA while on a pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia,an allegation dismissed by the Americans.Mr Amiri is now saying he wants to return to Iran.Adding to the uncertainty, videotapes showing a man purporting to be Mr Amiri have been circulating, offering conflicting(of counts,口误)accounts of what happened to him.

The French parliament has voted to adopt laws to ban women from wearing the full-face veil in public. The legislation will now go before the upper house for approval in September. If the ban becomes law, women who wear it could be fined about190dollars.Punishments for male family members found to be enforcing the wearing of the veil include spending a year in prison. From Paris,Gavin Hewitt reports.

French MPs say the aim of this law is to assert that those who live(in?)or travel to France must embrace French values. They would argue that hiding a woman’s face violates the ideals of equality and secularism so important in France. What drives some of this is a fear that some new arrivals and some ethnic groups are clinging to customs that set them apart with the risk of separate, parallel communities developing.

European Union finance ministers have been discussing what to do if the European banking system fails a test of its resilience. The EU says such failure is unlikely, but that national governments or even EU funds could act as a safety net if needed. Our economics correspondent Andrew Walker has more.

There are fears in the financial markets that some banks could be in serious danger of failure if they face heavy losses on debts sold by stressed European governments and property buyers. So European regulators were examining over90of them to see whether they would survive. But some analysts believe the test may not be tough enough and that weaknesses might be hidden.

European officials say that won’t happen and they believe most banks are in reasonable health. The results of the test will be published next week.

New figures from the United Nations show the prevalence of HIV among young people has fallen in16of the world’s worst-affected countries, many of them in Africa. The UN figures suggest that young people are changing their sexual behavior in response to AIDS prevention campaigns. But the UN accepts that AIDS is on the rise in Uganda because of what it describes as"increasing complacency".And in Eastern Europe, the UN says, infection rates are on the increase.

The Pentagon says a Yemeni man held at Guantanamo Bay for eight years has been sent home.A US court ordered the release of the man,Mohammed Odainiin,in May,saying he had no connection to al-Qaeda and had been wrongly detained. However, the Pentagon said it was maintaining its overall ban on transferring other Yemenis back home because of the security situation in the country.

A group of Cuban political prisoners who’ve arrived in Spain say their release could be the start of change in Cuba. The men said they hoped the dozens of political prisoners who remain in Cuba

will be freed soon. From Madrid,Sarah Rainsford.

The seven Cuban dissidents flew to Madrid with their families, following what one described as the tensest moments of his life.It was the Catholic Church that struck the deal with the Cuban government, securing their release. So that’s who the men thanked in a statement at Madrid airport. The men have been given immigrant status here, allowing them to live and work where they choose. But first they’ll be taken to a refugee centre, where they’ll get medical, legal and financial help as they make their plans for the future.

An appeals court in the US has struck down a government policy which bans the broadcasting of expressions considered indecent. The policy was drawn up in2004by the Federal Communications Commission which ruled that profanity referring to sex or excrement was always indecent, and the broadcasters could be fined if they allow the use of such words in their programmes. The court said the policy was"unconstitutionally vague".

Liu Xiang:Dark Horse in the Athens Olympics Liu Xiang , born on July 13, 1983 in Shanghai, China, is a Chinese hurdling athlete. In 2002, Liu launched his career in fine style by winning the first IAAF (国际业余田径联合会) Grand Prix in Lausanne with a world youth and Asian record time of 13.12 seconds in the 110 metres hurdles. He has since made the finals at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics and IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics. Two of the three cases has seen American hurdling great Allen Johnson take the major prize, but in the last in May at Osaka, Liu managed to beat Johnson with an Asian-record time of 13.2014 seconds. Still young, Liu has improved steadily, and won a gold medal at the 2014 Summer Olympics in the 110 meters hurdles event. In the final, he equaled the world record of 12.91 seconds held since 1993 by Colin Jackson of Wales. This is the first time an athlete of non-African descent (后裔) has dipped under 13 seconds for the 110 meter hurdles.

Paris attacks: France calls on EU to 'wake up' to threat 2015-11-20 French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has said European countries must "wake up" to terror threats, following the attacks in Paris that left 129 people dead. He spoke after it emerged that the suspected Belgian ringleader of the attacks had entered France undetected. Belgian PM Charles Michel has defended Belgium's security services amid claims the attacks were organised there. It comes as EU interior ministers are due to hold emergency talks. The meeting in Brussels is expected to tighten checks at the external borders of the EU's passport-free Schengen area. Key questions remain after attacks On Thursday, French prosecutors confirmed that Islamic State (IS) militant AbdelhamidAbaaoud was among those killed in a police raid the previous day. His bullet-riddled body was found in the wreckage of a flat in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis. Investigators had identified him as the most likely organiser of last Friday's attacks, but it was initially thought he was in Syria. At a news conference, Mr Cazeneuve said "no information" had been received from other European countries about his arrival on the continent. But he said he had received intelligence that Abaaoud had passed through Greece on his return from Syria. "It is urgent that Europe wakes up, organises itself and defends itself against the terrorist threat," Mr Cazeneuve told reporters. French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said some of those involved in the attacks had taken advantage of the migration crisis in Europe - which has seen thousands of asylum seekers arrive on the continent - to "slip into" France unnoticed.

On this day in 1920 the United States voted not to join the League of Nations that had emerged out of the ‘never again’tide of feeling that accompanied the end of the First World War. Although President Woodrow Wilson had been appalled at the scale of human suffering he had seen, the increasingly isolationist tendencies of the US meant that the first organisation with an international peace agenda began its life without one of its potentially most powerful members. One of the early supporters of the League of Nations was Vera Brittain, whose classic memoir of the Great War, ‘Testament of Youth’, was released as a film on 16 January. Having read a review that found it sentimental I went to see it on Friday with mixed expectations. The film is primarily, like Brittain’s book, a commemoration of the lives and deaths of the young men whom she had loved and lost rather than an attempt to make a contemporary point. But the act of remembrance itself, can be a subversive and not just a sentimental act. Urged to forget and move on by those around her, Vera determined not only that she would not forget these young men, but that she would not forget what she herself had witnessed and learned as a V oluntary Nurse whilst at a military hospital in étaples. Confronted there with a hut full of German wounded Vera recognized, with shock, that these enemies were young men too, bleeding, suffering and dying far from home; the memory led to her initial support for the League of Nations, and in the face of the growing militarism of the 1930s, eventually to become one of the 20th century’s leading pacifists. As this month’s events in France continue to reverberate, and the release of the Guantanamo diaries raises inconvenient moral questions about western values, what we do with our memories is a key question. ‘Forgive and forget’is often not realistic, ignores the claims of justice, and is simply not safe, whilst the memory driven cycle of defending our own ‘high ground’runs the risk of causing more and more damage and of failing to see how our attitudes and actions –whoever we are - also need scrutiny. An alternative way to remember is offered by Miroslav V olf, a Croat theologian, writing out of the Balkan conflict of the 1990s. What he offers is a twofold way of remembering –a remembrance of harm done to us and ours that honours real anxiety and protects the vulnerable, but a remembrance which also honours the humanity of our enemies –a remembrance that restrains our desire for vengeance, opens up space for the scrutiny of our own actions, and constrains us to work for the

BBC news

BBC news 2014-05-07--------- Police in the Philippines have arrested 58 people involved in an Internet extortion network. They are accused of posting fake profiles to social network sites, luring mostly elderly men into exposing themselves in video chats which then filmed and used to blackmail them for money. Basically what's been going on here is that criminals have now taken advantage of technology and in particularly, social networking site where they are creating multiple fake profiles to befriend as many people as possible. And the aim was of this is to encourage the person that befriended into having sex over the Internet in front of the webcam and unknown to the person this is filmed and recorded it. And then she used a blackmail further on. Many of these firms are so well-organized like a traditional business with the staff that they have got. So they really are very well-organized. And it enables them to commit crime all over the world rather than traditionally where they may have been confined to their own country. And these are mostly men, it seems, to think they are striking up kind of interval relationship over the Internet with a woman. It turns out that they are not. What kind of money is extorted from them? It varies anything from a few hundred pounds through to few thousand dollars. And it's whatever they think that they can afford. It's very similar and very specialized to some of the other form we've seen in particular countries, some countries where teams have got together and they are specialized in skimming cards. Others have specialized in other types of fraud. I guess it's possibly also the fact that Philippines does well in tourist from westernized countries to the Philippines. The US Secretary of States John Kerry says the South Sudan President Salva Kiir has agreed to peace talks aimed at ending the conflict there. Mr. Kerry was speaking after the talks with the president in the capital Juba. I've told President Kiir that the choices that both he and the opposition face are stark and clear and that the unspeakable human costs that we have seen over the course of last month and which could even grow if they fail to sit down are unacceptable to the global community.

A Practical Guide for International News Reporting in English and Chinese

You've broken up with your girlfriend or boyfriend, your wife or husband has left you and you feel rejected, dejected, broken-hearted. Well, new research suggests that intense feelings of rejection are as hurtful as physical pain. The lead author of the study Ethan Kross said the reason is because the same regions of the brain that become active in response to painful sensory experiences are also activated during intense experiences of social rejection. The researchers hope their findings will offer new insigh t into how the experience of intense social loss may lead to various physical pain symptoms and disorders. They also confirmed the notion the people from different cultures all around the world use the same language, words like "hurt" and "pain", to describe the experience of both physical pain and social rejection.

五个w和一个h(when?where?who?what?why?和 how?)

为了帮助读者了解这种倒金字塔式结构,请见西方新闻学著作中 的图表说明: the inverted pyramid form introduction containing most important or most interesting information 导语包括最重要或最吸引人的消息 more facts 更多的事实材料 supporting information or background 辅助性消息或背景材料 quotes or more facts of lesser importance引语或次要的事 实材料
