A

In 1933 an unknown American called Clarence Nash went to see the filmmaker Walter Disney. He had a special voice and he wanted to work in Disney’s cartoon film for children. When Walter Disney heard Nash’s voice, he said, “Stop! That’s our duck!” The duck was the now-famous Donald Duck, who first appeared in 1934 in the

film The Wise Little Hen. Donald Duck went on to become one of the most famous cartoon characters in the world, and a great part of this was due to Nash’s distinctive (独特的)voice. It may well be one of the most recognizable(可辨识的)character voices

in history. The voice is distinctive both for its ducklike quality and the fact that it is often very difficult for anybody to understand, especially when Donald became angry. Later that year he became a star after an eight-minute Mickey Mouse film. The cinema audience liked him because he was lazy and greedy(贪婪的), and because he lost his temper(脾气)very quickly. And they loved his voice when he became angry with Mickey’s eight nephews(侄子). Soon Donald was more popular than Mickey Mouse himself, probably because he wasn’t goody-goody(假正经)like Mickey.

In the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s Donald and his friends Mickey, Goofy and Pluto made hundreds of Disney cartoons. He also made educational films about the place of the USA in the world, and safety in the home. Then in 1966 Donald Duck and his voice disappeared---- there were no more new cartoons.

Clarence Nash died in February, 1985. But today’s children can still see the old cartoons on television and hear that famous voice.

The following are some people’s opinions on using cell phones.

I believe that cell phones are not to be used while driving. One site said that talking on a cell phone while driving had the same results of drunk driving accidents! Also I think it is very rude to use your phone in a public place! Once I was in a doctor’s office, and people were very quiet. A woman’s cell phone started ringing. After what seemed a million rings, she stared to talk on her little “toy”, annoying every one.

----- Chelsea from the US

The cell phone would be a great thing if we used it in the right way. Unfortunately most of us don’t use it in the right way because we talk with our friends for hours and hours, and that’s something we can do better if we have a coffee together. The use of the cell phone in this way is dangerous for the development of good socialization. We need to think twice about how we are using cell phones.

----- Graciela Flores form Mexico

Once when I was studying in the library, I was reading my book. Suddenly, a cell phone rang. I was so annoyed because those students didn’t have good manners in public. I looked at them in anger, but they didn’t pay attention. Nowadays, many young students use cell phones everywhere in my country just for talking to their friends. It keeps students from studying.

----- Seung-Hye Lee from Korea

I think cell phones should be banned(禁止)in cars and airplanes. It is very clear that people’s attention is diverted(分散)if they talk on cell phones while they are driving. The number of car accidents caused by drivers using cell phones has risen, so people should not use them when they are driving.
