The Spirit of The Scarlet Letters

The Scarlet Letter, written by Hawthorn, who was an American novelist and short story writer, show us a story about soul. As you known, everyone has soul, but someone maintain the soul, some people damage the soul, and others lose the soul, so the world is filled with all kinds of life and the story of human.

The protagonist, Hester Prynne, wore the scarlet letters on her chest symbolizing the harshness of Puritan society, just because she fell in love with the priest, Arthur Dimmesdale and then had a child. For protecting the priest's reputation, she accepted the punishment with no hesitation----a red A letter on her chest meaning Adultery. Although it is absolutely difficult for her to live normally and happily with a red A, she is a great woman who had never surrendered to the fate, who even showed the contempt for the fate all her life, who had a spirit of sacrifice for pure love. She deeply knew if you want to gain freedom and liberation, you have no choice but to fighting with the pedantic Puritan and the dark society. With a hotly public opinion,Hester Prynne is no doubt guilty of adultery and accused by religion, but she choosed to face the dark days with a positive attitude.Faced with the mistake she had done, she just felt no regret but consciousness. She is the woman who had always been resisting the miserable fate, who was always looking forward to a better life, whose heart was full of unselfish love. Her consciousness and adamancy, doughtiness and unconvention showed a super character of the new colonial women. With the mind of strong resistance and fighting will, she had obviously already showed the view of objecting to the Puritan and the common customs. So she became noble man receiving the respect from other people, at the same time, she succeeded in eliminating the shame form the red A which should become the symbol of noble in the end. That is the reason why the Hester Prynne impressed me a lot.

In my opinion, the scarlet letters not only represent the shame or the symbol of noble, but, in fact, a spiritual hint and pressure.Everyone, more or less, is likely to have the scarlet letters in his or her own heart. When we do something wrong, there is always a justice reminding us that the things what we have done was wrong. And then you will have the continuously torment of conscience, so some criminals will surrender, and even feel ashamed or what we have done. It is the scarlet letter in our heart which is having an effect on us, isn't it ?Everybody has his scarlet letter, but some are the voice of the justice, some are the crime of the accused. The Scarlet letter is yourself and defeating the scarlet letter is facing yourself.

The Scarlet Letter let me to feel the peace after the depression, the happiness after the pain.

A Reading Report of The Scarlet Letter The Scarlet Letter is written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, who was an influential American romantic novelist. Many of his works are inspired by Puritan New England, combining historical romance loaded with symbolism and deep psychological themes, bordering on surrealism. The Scarlet Letter makes Hawthorne known all over the world. Puritanism is the practices and beliefs of puritans. The American puritans accept the doctrine and practice of predestination, original sin and total depravity, and limited atonement through a special infusion of grace from God. But due to the grim struggle for living in the new continent, they become more and more practical. American Puritanism is so much a part of the national atmosphere rather than a set of tenets. A prominent characteristic of Hawthorne’s works is describing the dark side of society and humanity, which is inseparable to the influence of Calvinism on people's “original sin” and “intrinsic depravity” theory. Hawthorne is a pione er of psychological novel, who is good at analysis human’s “heart.” He focused on the ethics and the problem of evil, and advocated good deeds and self repentance to wash sin and purify the mind, and thus be saved. However, not all Hawthorne’s works are wrote the dark, at the same time in his expose social evils and human evil, he placed great sympathy for many kind-hearted heroes. As his friend, the great writer Herman Melville noted that Hawthorne's dark kept the dark even more bright dawn ahead. Hawthorne has made a great contribution on the development of American literature. The influence for writers such as Henry James, Faulkner and Malamud is obvious. Hawthorne's works are imaginative and structured. In addition to psychological analysis and description, also use the symbolism. His sophisticated imagery idea added romantic to his works, deepened meaning for his works. But in his works, some places are mysterious obscure. In The Scarlet Letter, he used symbolism skillfully to enhance the artistic effect. So it is regarded as the first symbolic novel in American Literature. Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent things such as ideas and emotions. Symbolism is

The Scarlet Letter For long Nathaniel Hawthorne has been considered to be the first great American writer of fiction. His The Scarlet Letter is one of the greatest novels in American literature of the 19th century. This is a story of crime, sin, guilt, punishment and expiation, set in Puritan Bostin during the mid-17th century. Although the story is mainly about Hester Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale and Roger Chillingworth, during my reading, I am attracted by Hester and Dimmesdale's special child –Pearl. Her particularities are as follows. Pearl inherited her mother's beauty and characteristics. She possessed a ″rich and luxuriant beauty; a beauty that shone with deep and vivid tints; a bright complexion, eyes possessing intensity both of depth and glow and hair already of a deep, glossy brown and which, in after many years, would be nearly akin to black″. No matter what clothes she was in, she was graceful, even if she torn and soiled the clothes during her game. In terms of characteristics, she was determined and rebellious. When she was look down upon and mocked by other children, she angrily and bravely rushed and drove away them; when she was asked in the Governor's hall who made her, she deliberately refused to give the proper answer that her mother had taught her but said that she had not been made at all; when her mother ask her to come to the minister in the forest, she was reluctant to do so and even washing off Dimmesdale's unwelcomed kiss with disfavor. Pearl was so close to nature that she seemed to be a part of it. As an illegitimate child, she had no father beside her. Luckily, she was not only the child of human being, she was also the child of nature – it warmly accepted her as a part of it. Having been kept away by other children, her only playmate was nature, even a stick or a bunch of rags or a flower could become the main character of the drama in her inner world. She dared to seize a shark, melt a jelly fish in the sun and hit pebble to a bird. In the forest, the wild animal took her for their same species, for example, ″A fox started from his sleep by her light footstep on the leaves, looked inquisitively at Pearl, as doubting whether it were better to steal off, or renew his nap on the same spot. The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist an orphan who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain such as hunger thirst beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill.

Enlightenment of the Economic Naturalist in Search of Explanations for Everyday Enigmas. I61214054 Last year, one of my friends gave me a book, which was about economic naturalist. One raining day, I picked up this book out of curiosity, and began to enjoy it. The book is most interesting one I have ever learned. Robert H. Frank who is the author of the book is the Henrietta Johnson Louis Professor of Management and Professor of Economics at Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management. His "Economic Scene" column appears monthly in the "New York Times." His previous books include "The Winner-Take-All Society" (with Philip Cook), "Luxury Fever," and "Principles of Economics" (with Ben Bernanke). Frank's many awards include the Apple Distinguished Teaching Award and the Leontief Prize for Advancing the Frontiers of Economic Thought. He lives in Ithaca, New York. Why do the keypads on drive-up cash machines have Braille dots? Why are round-trip fares from Orlando to Kansas City higher than those from Kansas City to Orlando? For decades, Robert Frank has been asking his economics students to pose and answer questions like these as a way of learning how economic principles operate in the real world-which they do everywhere, all the time. Once you learn to think like an economist, all kinds of puzzling observations start to make sense. Drive-up ATM keypads have Braille dots because it’s cheaper to make the same machine for both drive-up and walk-up locations. Travelers from Kansas City to Orlando pay less because they are usually price-sensitive tourists with many choices of destination, whereas travelers originating from Orlando typically choose Kansas City for specific family or business reasons. The Economic Naturalist employs basic economic principles to answer scores of intriguing questions from everyday life, and, along the way, introduces key ideas such as the cost-benefit principle, the “no cash on the table” principle, and the law of one price. This is as delightful and painless a way to learn fundamental economics as there is. Commonplace book, professor frank from reality and neglected life phenomenon, first put forward a series of seemingly simple but suddenly unexpectedly let us hard to answer
