考点规范练4( Unit 1)

Ⅰ.阅读理解

With a million 18-25s unemployed,it’s not an easy time for young people looking to get on the job ladder. However, through the statistic I saw an opportunity that I decided to take.Throughout the past years I have worked hard to develop a number of projects to help young people gain an advantage in their careers and in life. With the support of Levi Roots, who created Reggae Reggae sauce.I founded UnITe Computing in 2011 and since have enjoyed working with clients(客户) such as Google UK,the University of Australia and others.Though this journey has had its ups and downs,I am proud of how far we have come.

The main issue I have faced so far in my business life has been gaining the trust of others. If you are 19,not very many people believe you when you say you run a number of businesses. In fact I have been laughed at and even told to get a job by some. This was a major obstacle I had to face.To overcome it I simply established a professional and positive reputation among colleagues, friends and in the media in order to build credibility for myself and my businesses.Age should not limit your ability to succeed and I have gained more respect due to my willingness to give back and reward the communities which support me.

One of the young business people I personally support is Ryan Farquharson who runs https://www.360docs.net/doc/3517737515.html,.He says,“To anybody that has an urge to run their own business I would absolutely say go for it,anyone can do it!”

It’s this go-getting attitude that I firmly believe needs to be encouraged and developed among today’s young people. The“one million unemployed youth”statistic is a key drive for change and an opportunity to get up and make something of

yourself, you simply have to go for it and pick up support. That is what my journey and my story aims to inspire.

2017高考英语阅读练习题3

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 A Men have always believed that they are smarter than women. Now, a study has found that while this is certainly true, men also have to deal with the fact that they are also more stupid than the fairer sex. In the study, scientists measured the IQ of 2500 brothers and sisters and they found an uneven number of men not only in the top two percent, but also in the bottom two percent. The study's participants were tested on science, maths, English and mechanical abilities. Though there were twice as many men as women in the smartest group, there were also twice as many men among the dolts. The aggregate scores of men and women were similar. One of the study's authors, psychology professor Timothy Bates, said that the phenomenon may be because men have always been expected to be high achievers and women have been restricted to spend more time taking care of their home. "The female developmental program may be tilted more towards ensuring survival and the safety of the middle ground.," the Daily Mail quoted Professor Bates, of Edinburgh University, as saying. The research tallies with past results that men were more likely than women to receive first class University degrees or thirds and women secured the seconds. It has been said that men are more ready to take risk when it comes to academics. Women have always found to be steadier in their learning. A past study has shown that women are securing more firsts and seconds, while men are continuing to receive more thirds. The argument for the change is that the increase of coursework at the cost of exams favors women's steady approach. 1. The purpose of the passage is to tell us that ________. A. man are smarter then women B. man are more stupid the women C. a new fact about the IQ of men and women has been found D. men are more likely to receive first class university degrees 2. According to Timothy Bates, less women are in the smartest group because _________. A. they are born stupid B. they have to spend more time to tale care of their home than men C. they don’t like to take risk D. they are not expected to be high achievers 3. The underlined word tallies with in the eighth paragraph means________. A. agree with B. deal with C. go against D. go with 4. It can be inferred from the passage that______. A. Women are steadier in their learning. B. men are more ready to take risk in everything C. women are securing more firsts and seconds D. women are doing much better in academy 5. Which of the following questions has NOT been discussed in the passage? A. Why are men smarter than women?

一、2020-2021 学年高三英语一模卷汇编 4. 阅读A篇 Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read. One【宝山】 (A) “Runners, to your mark, Get set…” Bang! And I was off, along with a bunch of other teenage cross-country runners from high schools across the county. The day was like any other fair-weather autumn day in Maryland. But the race that day felt unique from the get-go. For one thing, I liked the course. It was my team’s home course, one I was used to running durin g practices. It took runners along an area of land that included open fields, hills and even winding dirt paths through a small forest. It was a beautiful 5-kilometer course. This particular race was our team’s invite, and I was proud to be sharing the cou rse with competitors from other schools. It also meant a lot―more than normal that my parents were there to cheer me on. With so much to expect that day, I was ready to run! And I didn’t want to be stuck with the pack of other runners, as is typical at the beginning of most cross-country races. So when the gun sounded, I took off running, leaving everyone else in the dust. The first part of our course followed the outside edge of a large open field before disappearing into the forest. Within seconds of the start, I was far ahead of everyone, and all of the fans could see it. It felt magnificent. But that feeling didn’t last long. Little did I know my coach was laughing to himself, thinking, “Gabe is done for!” And I was. My body was telling me to slow down. My pride, however, said “No! Not until you’re out of sight of the spectators!” I was in agony, but I kept up my pace until I reached the forest. Once in among the trees. I slowed way down. I enjoyed most races, even while pushing myself, but this one was not enjoyable in the least. I finished the race, but in nowhere near the time I could have if I’d paced myself well from the beginning. Every time I reflect on that cross-country season, I’m reminded of something: Pride is no substitute for pace. 56.What is special to the author about the race? A. The weather condition was good for runners. B. He was familiar with the home course.
