GENERAL Description
The ICG Jetphone, Model 938800A-B is a four-wire intelligent handset offering special features yet replicating the convenience and simplicity of a conventional telephone. The device is an aeronautical approved handset, favored by pilots because of its positive latching mechanism, lit DTMF dialer and display, and familiar operation. Additionally, the Jetphone has several features: ear-piece volume control, push to talk (PTT), speed dialing, special functions keys such as redial, new call, flash, and mute that make it a versatile device suitable for many applications. Typical applications for the Jetphone are: flight deck handset, handset for direct connection to sat-com terminals, attendant handsets, and cabin bulkhead mount handsets. The Jetphone can be customized with special operations buttons to provide special features as requested by the customer. It requires 28VDC aircraft power or operates on 12VDC when powered from a CTU or other source. The device is constructed out of fire retardant material with an ergonomic design that provides a familiar feel similar to a cellular style handset. The standard handset color is black but custom colors are available upon request. 1.2 Models
The Jetphone comes in black color in a standard configuration. However, several options are available such as: microphone muting activated by the PTT key (typically for military applications or high noise environments), special function key printing and operation, special external signals such as PA system key signal, and custom colors upon request. The model number for the required device is defined as follows:

OPERATION
The Jetphone operates similar to a standard telephone device. Functions such as initiating calls, answering inbound calls and disconnecting calls are accomplished using familiar procedures. Special function keys are provided to add conveniences and added features. 2.1 To Place an Outbound Call
Remove the handset from the cradle by pressing up on the two release tabs on the side of the handset. Dial the destination telephone number and wait for the call to connect. Press the “New Call” button to place a new call, or if a call is misdialed. 2.2 Answering an Inbound Call
The telephone handset will ring on an inbound call. To answer the call, simply remove the handset from the cradle and the calling party will be on the line. 2.3 New Call
The ICG Jetphone has a special function button labeled “New Call”. This button, when pressed, will disconnect a call in progress and after two seconds provide dial tone to permit a new call. It obviates the requirement to hang up the handset after every call. 2.4 Pilot (Phone Installed in Cabin or Attendant Handset)
When pressed, this button will dial the extension for the cockpit. This button operates as a speed dial button and must be programmed with the cockpit extension to operate correctly. The button’s name can be changed to reflect a different location other than “Pilot”. 2.5 Hold
The “Hold” button, when pressed, places a call on-hold and mutes the audio so that no communications is possible between the handset and the other party. To release the “Hold” feature, press the Hold button again to restore the call. 2.6 Last Number Redial (LNR)
When pressed, the “LNR” button will redial the last number that was dialed form the handset. 2.7 Speed Dialing
Speed dialing is typically programmed into the user handsets. Instructions for programming the ICG Jetphone are described below. To dial a pre-programmed speed dial number, press the “Speed Dial” button and enter the two-

digit memory location that contains the destination telephone number that is to be dialed. The number will be displayed on the LCD display. If this is the number to be dialed press the “#” button and the handset will dial the destination number. Press “3” to scroll up in the speed dial directory or press “9” to scroll down in the directory. Pressing the “#” key will dial the number displayed on the screen at any time. 2.8 Programming Speed Dialing Buttons and Numbers
The ICG Jetphone has two facilities for storing speed dial numbers. A single button, typically labeled, “Pilot” is used to speed dial the extension for the flight deck handset. This needs to be programmed with the extension number assigned to the cockpit handset. The other facility is to store up to 99 telephone numbers into the handset that can be recalled by entering a twodigit code and then dialed. 2.8.1 Programming Pilot Button This button is programmed as speed dial location “99" and pressing this button will automatically dial the digits programmed into this speed dial address. The procedure is as follows: - Determine the extension number of the flight deck telephone. - Take the Jetphone handset off-hook and press the “New Call” button. - Once new dial tone is received, press the “Speed Dial” button. - Dial the two digit short code “99”. - Dial “*” and monitor that the “New Number” prompt is displayed. - Enter the three digit code for the flight deck extension followed by a “#”. - Hang up the phone or press the “New Call” button. The handset is now programmed to dial the flight deck extension once the “Pilot” button is pressed. 2.8.2 Programming Speed Dial Locations As mentioned up to 99 numbers can be stored for speed dialing purposes. Each number is assigned a two digit code, example “01,02,03…99”. Programming these numbers is as follows: - Take the Jetphone handset off-hook and press the “New Call” button. - Once new dial tone is received, press the “Speed Dial” button. - Dial the two digit short code that you wish to program“01, 02, 03, etc. - Dial “*” and monitor that the “New Number” prompt is displayed. - Enter the complete telephone number that you wish to enter including dialing prefix

(1, 011, 00 as required) followed by any country code requirement, city code, telephone number, etc. followed by a “#”. - Hang up the phone or press the “New Call” button. - Either hang up the handset or proceed with the next speed dialing memory location.

Jetphone with Credit Card Reader
ICG offers the standard Jetphone with a credit card magnetic stripe reader attached. This is typically installed where outbound calls are to be billed to the caller or other account and not to the aircraft. The operation of the telephone is as described above except that after the destination number is dialed, the caller will be prompted to swipe a credit card through the card reader. The procedure is very simple; simply swipe the card from top to bottom. If the card was swiped correctly a small green LED will light. If the card was not read correctly, a voice prompt from the network will request the card to be swiped again. 2.10 Jetphone with Dual Telecom / Interphone Operation
ICG offers a model of the Jetphone where the same handset can be used for both inbound and outbound calling and also as an attendant handset to make PA announcements and for Interphone use. This phone has a special function button labeled “Telecom”. It requires a special relay switching assembly provided by ICG. In its normal mode, the telephone operates as an attendant handset for cabin announcements and to call other attendant handsets or the cockpit via the aircraft’s Interphone system. If the handset is off-hook and the Telecom button is pressed, the audio connections will be switched from the Interphone Controller to the communications transceiver or CTU device, permitting placing outbound calls or answering inbound calls. 2.10.1 Interphone Operation
Take handset off hook and dial the Interphone code to select the PA system to make announcements, or to select another attendant handset or the flight deck. When PA is selected, press the PTT (push to talk) switch on the handset to make announcements. When calling is complete, insert the handset back into the cradle. 2.10.2 Telecom Operation
Remove the handset from the cradle and press the Telecom button. Dial tone will be received from the Sat-Com transceiver and outbound calling or answering an inbound call is permitted. When calling is complete, insert the handset into the cradle. Once the handset is hung-up, the Jetphone reverts to Interphone mode, the default condition for the handset. 2.10.3 Answering Ground to Air Calls

In many cases the CTU or Sat-Com Terminal system is configured to ring the attendant handset on inbound calls. To answer an inbound call, the procedure is as follows: Remove ringing handset from cradle. Press the Telecom button and the call will be answered. The call can then be transferred to another handset by pressing the Flash button and dialing the extension number of the destination handset (providing the CTU or Sat-Com provides this feature). 2.11 Adjusting Earpiece Volume
A rotary roller knob located on the side of the handset permits increasing or decreasing the earpiece volume. Turning this knob clockwise will increase the volume, turning it counter clockwise will decrease the received audio volume. 2.12 PTT Switch
In particular models, a rocker switch on the side of the handset is available to activate the PTT function for special features. This function is model and application specific and can be used for several different requirements. Typically it is used to activate the PA system for cabin announcements, key a radio for transmission or in applications where the microphone is muted, permit microphone audio. 3.0 3.1 INSTALLATION Connections
The Jetphone telephone has a 15 pin male “D” connector that mates to a female mating connector which is typically connected to a Sat-Com Transceiver, Interphone system, HF Radio or CTU system. This connection provides power, receive and transmit audio, hook signal, incoming ring signal, PTT if used, ground and any special signaling requirements. The connector signal designations are shown in “Appendix Fig. 2.

Notes 1) Both contacts of the PTT switch are available for connection to an external device. Typically the “PTT Contact 1” pin is tied to ground when used to activate the PA keying function. 2) If 12VDC is used for phone power, the connections are the same as the 28VDC connections. 3) The Earpiece Lo and Mic Lo are frequently tied to common ground when the transceiver circuits are compatible with this mode of operation. 4) Ring signal – the Jetphone can be configured to operate either with a cadence ring signal provided by the transceiver or a continuous ring signal. If a continuous ring signal is applied, the Jetphone will ring at a cadence until the signal is removed or the handset is taken off-hook. 5) The IHC signal pin can be assigned to a function key that when pressed can activate a special function. It is frequently used in conjunction with the ICG IHC / CTU switching assembly to activate a relay to switch the handset connections to a CTU or transceiver from the Interphone Handset Controller. 3.2 Wiring
ICG recommends that 22 to 26 AWG stranded wire be used. The cable should be of a type that provides at least four twisted pairs, providing signal connections and a common ground between the connected devices. The common ground can be the shield wires if the transceiver device or CTU ties the signal grounds to the equipment chassis. Required signal pairs are as follows: Pair 1 - +12 or +28VDC

Pair 2 - TX Audio Pair 3 - RX Audio Pair 4 - Hook Switch and Incoming Ring Signals Note: In the Jetphone the “Hook Switch” and “Incoming Ring” signals are referenced to DC return or ground. For these signals to operate properly, the return path for these signals must be tied to DC ground at the transceiver. 3.3 Cradle Mounting
The cradle is intended to be mounted onto a bulkhead or cockpit wall. Four screws are used to mount the cradle. Figure 1 in the appendix details the dimensions and mounting screw locations. Note: the screw heads must not protrude into the cradle cavity or damage to the handset may result.
