Centuries of history hang in the balance(悬挂在天平上,我想到了一些中文中对应的词语,都可以诠释这个英文词组,“风雨飘摇”,“摇摇欲坠”), a question mark hangs over(一个问号悬挂在…之上,相当于“we have no idea about”)the future of our United Kingdom. If people vote “yes” in September, then Scotland will become an independent country. There will be no going back (没有回头之路).

As I’ve made clear(正像我之前清楚地表述过), this is a decision that is squarely and solely(这两个词的表面意思是“直接地、仅仅地”,从来表现出这次投票是完完全全苏格兰人自己的决定,外界力量无法去干涉)for those in Scotland to make. I believe passionately that it is in their interests to stay in the United Kingdom. But my argument today is that while only 4 million people can vote in this referendum(公投,真正由国家公民一票一票选出来), all 63 million of us

are profoundly(深刻地)affected. There are 63 million of us who can wake up on September 19 in a different country with a different future ahead of them. We would be

deeply diminished(减少、削弱)without Scotland, this matters(动词,很重要)to all of our futures. And everyone in UK can have a voice(发出声音,表达意见)in this debate.

The outcome is still up in the air(成语,悬而未决), and we have just 7 months to go, 7 months to do all we can to keep our United Kingdom as one(keep…as one,保持团结一致), 7 months to save the most extraordinary(神奇的、非凡的)country in history. And we must do whatever it takes(竭尽所能), so to everyone, in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, everyone like me who cares about(关心)the United Kingdom.

I want to say this, you don’t have a vote, but you do have a voice(跟前面的vote有押头韵,这句话很有音韵美,大家自己感受). Those voting, they’re our friends, they’re our neighbors, they’re our family, you do have an influence. So get on the phone, get together, email, tweet, speak, let message ring out(发送出). From Manchester to Motherwell, from Pembrokeshire to Perth, from Belfast to Bute, from us to the people of Scotland, let the message be this: we want you to stay! Think of what we’ve done together, what we can do together, what we stand for together(排比句很有气势).

, the winning team in the history of the world, let us stick together(团结一致), for a winning(在此是一个形容词,表示“获胜的”)future too.

tuesday 9 november XX pms speech at beida university, china a transcript of speech given by the prime minister at the beida university in china on 9 november XX. read the transcipt: introduction twenty five years ago i came to hong kong as a student. the year was 1985. deng xiaoping and margaret thatcher had recently signed the historic joint declaration. the remarkable story of the successful handover of hong kong and the great progress hong kong has continued to make is an example to the world of what can be achieved when two countries cooperate in confidence and with

Good morning everyone. The country has just taken part in a giant democratic exercise , perhaps the biggest in our history. Over 33 million people from England, Scotland,Wales, Northern Ireland and Gibraltar have all had their say. We should be proud the fact that in these islands we trust the people with these big decisions, we not only have a parliamentary democracy but on questions about the arrangements for how we’ve governed, there are times when it is right to ask the people themselves, and that is w hat we have done. The British people have voted to leave the European Union, and their will must be respected. I want to thank every one who took part in campaign on my side of the argument, including all those who put aside party differences, to speak i n what they believed was the national interest. And let me congratulate all those who took part in the “Leave Campaign”for the spirited and passionate case they made. The will of the British people is an instruction that must be delivered . It was not a d ecision that was taken lightly, not least because so many thing were said by many different organizations about the significance of this decision. So there can be no doubt about the result. Across the world people have been watching the choice that Brito n has made. I would reassure those markets and investors that Britain’s economy is fundamentally strong. And I would also reassure the Brits in the European countries and European citizens living here that there would be no immediate changes in your circum stances, there will be no initial change in the way our people can travel, in the way our goods can move or the way our services can be sold. We must now prepare for a negotiation with the European Union. This will need to involve full engagement of the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland governments to ensure that the interests of all parts of our United Kingdom are protected and advanced. But above all, this will require strong, determined and committed leadership. I am very proud and very honored to be Prime Minister of this country for six years. I believe we’ve made great steps with more people in work than ever before in our history, with reforms to welfare and education, increasing people’s life chances, building a bigger and stronger society, keepin g our promises to the poorest people in the world, and enabling those who love each other to get married whatever their sexuality. But above all restoring Britain’s economic strength. And I am grateful to everyone who’s helped to make that happen. I have also always believed that we have to confront big decisions, not doubt them. That is why we deliveredthe firstcoalition government in seventy years to bring our economy back from the brink. It is why we delivered a fair, legal and decisive referendum in S cotland. And it’s why I made the pledge to renegotiate Britain’s position in the European Union and to hold the referendum on our membership and have carried those things out. I fought this campaign in the only way I know how which is to say directly and p assionately what I think and feel head, heart and soul. I held nothing back. I was absolutely clear about my belief that the British is stronger safer and better off in side the European Union. And I made clear the referendum was about this and this alone not the future of any single politician including myself.

The people of Scotland have spoken. It is a clear result. They have kept our country of four nations together. Like millions of other people, I am delighted. As I said during the campaign, it would have broken my heart to see our United Kingdom come to an end. And I know that sentiment was shared by people, not just across our country, but also around the world….because of what we’ve achieved together in th e past and what we can do together in the future. So now it is time for our United Kingdom to come together, and to move forward. A vital part of that will be a balanced settlement – fair to people in Scotland and importantly to everyone in England, Wales and Northern Ireland as well. Let us first remember why we had this debate – and why it was right to do so. The Scottish National Party was elected in Scotland in 2011 and promised a referendum on independence. We could have blocked that, we could have put it off but just as with other big issues, it was right to take - not duck - the big decision.

Let us stick together

We meet in a week that could change the United Kingdom forever. Indeed, it could end the United Kingdom as we know it. On Thursday, Scotland votes, and the future of our country is at stake. On Friday, people could be living in a different country, with a different place in the world and a different future ahead of it. This is a decision that could break up our family of nations, and rip Scotland from the rest of the UK. And we must be very clear. There’s no going back from this. No re-run. This is a once-and-for-all decision. If Scotland votes yes, the UK will split, and we will go our separate ways forever. When people vote on Thursday they are not just voting for themselves, but for their children and grandchildren and the generations beyond. So I want to speak directly to the people of this country today about what is at stake.

I held nothing back, I was absolutely clear about my belief that Britain is stronger, safer and better off inside the European Union and I made clear the referendum was about this and this alone - not the future of any single politician including myself. But the British people have made a very clear decision to take a different path and as such I think the country requires fresh leadership to take it in this direction. I will do everything I can as Prime Minister to steady the ship over the coming weeks and months but I do not think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination. This is not a decision I've taken lightly but I do believe it's in the national interest to have a period of stability and then the new leadership required. There is no need for a precise timetable today but in my view we should aim to have a new prime minister in place by the start of the Conservative Party conference in October. Delivering stability will be important and I will continue in post as Prime Minister with my Cabinet for the next three months. The Cabinet will meet on Monday, the Governor of the Bank of England is making a statement about the steps that the Bank and the Treasury are taking to reassure financial markets. We will also continue taking forward the important legislation that we set before Parliament in the Queen's Speech. And I have spoken to Her Majesty the Queen this morning to advise her of the steps that I am taking. A negotiation with the European Union will need to begin under a new prime minister and I think it's right that this new prime minister takes the decision about when to trigger Article 50 and start the formal and legal process of leaving the EU. I will attend the European Council next week to explain the decision the British people have taken and my own decision.
