Course Description (course objectives and content):
Entrepreneurship Lab is a teamwork-based practicum designed for MIM Program (Master in Management) at Tsinghua SEM, which enables students to apply academic knowledge into entrepreneurial situations. Emphasizing “real situation, real participation, real effect”, this course features comprehensive application of academic theories, solid foundation of real business cases, as well as experiential method of learning.
Project-based. The MIM students will be divided into several teams, each of which will be working on a commercial business plan under the guidance of the course instructor and the entrepreneurial mentor. The instructor is selected from Tsinghua SEM professors, while the mentor senior business professionals/SEM alumini. If possible, the student teams will be welcomed to benefit from the rich experience and the entrepreneurial background of the mentor in accomplishing “down-to-earth” business plans.
Comprehensive. Working on projects in teams, the students will be enjoying the chance to
practice their curricular knowledge, including marketing, strategic management, corporate finance, human resource, operation management, etc. This comprehensive practicum is preferable to classroom-based lectures, not only in that the students are therefore able to gain a global overview, but also in that they would find it instructively meaningful in further study.
Experiential learning. Students who take part in Entrepreneurship Lab will be able to gain cognition through self-exploration and peer-interaction, as well as develop new knowledge through brainstorming. In the meanwhile, involved in variety of styles of leadership and working methodology, the students are motivated to enhance their own abilities in leadership, communication and coordination during cooperation. Also, with interaction and cooperation with the mentor, students will derive abundant benefit from the commercial atmosphere. Learning by doing. The students are expected to spend considerable time on practical activities such as conducting market surveys and interviewing experts.
The goals of Entrepreneurship Lab include:
●Providing an opportunity to gain practical experience through working on commercial
business plans;
●Providing a low-risk environment for applying academic knowledge in real business
cases;
●Teaching specific tools needed in entrepreneurial ventures, especially for analysis and
decisions about customers, target market selection and market entry;
●Offering real business experience.
