英语国家概况(1)课程网上形成性考核说明
一、课程简要介绍
英语国家概况（1）课程是英语语言专业选修课程，帮助英语学习者了解和扩大有关英国、爱尔兰和澳大利亚的社会与文化的背景知识，如历史、地理、政治、经济、社会生活和文化传统等方面的概况。同时，通过有关题目的学习以及相关的配套练习，使学习者扩大词汇量、增强阅读能力，达到提高英语总体水平的目的。
该课程的主要特色在于扩展英语专、本科学生的文化和社会视野，引导他们注意到英语语言内在的文化土壤、英语语言外在的多面性、语言和产生其语言的社会的一致性、相关性、各个英语国家的共性和个性、从包括历史渊源、政体特征、科学进步、社会发展、人文地理、文化教育等各个层面，充实学生的知识结构，提高学生的认知能力和综合素质。同时，通过比较学习不同文化中具有特殊文化涵义的词语与表达式，可以促使学生掌握一些特殊词语的深层次意义，是对英语语言的习得以及翻译水平的提高有益的补充。
课时安排：一般需学习9周，每周4学时
