International Labor Day, also called International Workers’ Day or May Day, as we all know, is on the 1st of May. Well, it’s a long story for the legalization of the day. In late 19th century, with the development of trade union and labor movement, various days were chosen to celebrate labor. And in 1887, Labor Day was an official holiday in September celebrated by more than 30 states in North America. 1 May was chosen to be International Workers' Day in order to commemorate the 4 May, 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago. The police were trying to disperse a public assembly during a general strike for the eight-hour workday, when an unidentified person threw a bomb at the police. The police responded by firing on the workers, killing four demonstrators. That’s how the day came into being.

While in China, the news or activities of International Labor Day were first introduced by some intellectuals in Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Hankou in the way of giving out leaflets. During the period of the Republic of China, it was further developed and articles from famous people of that time were published in newspapers and magazines, which in the wide range instilled in the conception of the day.Normally in China, there will be a three-day holiday for International Labor day. In some past years ,there was a seven-day holiday and we will never experience the great old times.

Since it’s a holiday, the first thing most people bear in mind is that going out and having fun and so do I. However, some people may still choose to stay at home or in their universities, which is a good choice actually as people in the whole country will go out to enjoy themselves

during the holiday. Imagine that in some famous places, you will have no choice but to unwillingly walk with the crowds and you may know the so-called “people mountain, people sea”. So, stay at home and share the time with your friends and family.

Despite that, people with vibrant personalities will still go out to explore the fantasy of the world. And here are some tips for you from a native Chinese. First,avoid tourist attractions. If you don’t, you will “enjoy”“people mountain, people sea”. Second, do not drive. For convenience, many people will drive to have a family outing, thus it’ll be like rush hours on the road but with a longer and more exhausting time. Third, if you are in Nanjing, avoid places like Confucius Temple, Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, Xin jie kou and some other famous attractions.

Anyway, the most important thing is that keep your heart light and enjoy everyday life with a good mood.
