…USA? Britain? Which country is better to study in?? We often hear such discussions. As China opens its door, it is a dream for many Chinese students to study abroad. They want to learn about the outside world.

It?s true that studying abroad can help students develop themselves. Their foreign language skills will be improved and it may be easier to find jobs.

But there are problems that should be considered. Language is the first. Students must spend a lot of time learning another language.

Students must also learn to live without parents? care and deal with all kinds of things they haven?t had to do before, like looking after themselves. There are reports about Chinese students abroad running into an ocean of difficulties and giving up finally. When they have to take care of themselves, it is hard for students to study well.

Finally, studying abroad brings a heavy burden(负担)to the family. For most Chinese parents, the cost of studying abroad is very high. But is it worth it?

We know that there are many famous people who have achieved success through their hard work in China. Liu Xiang is a good example. Once an American teacher invited him there, but he refused. 阅读短文并根据短文内容完成表格。(每空一词)

It?s a problem that every year thousands of people get hurt or die when they are crossing the road. Most of these people are old people and children. Old people often get hurt or die because they can?t see or hear well. Children often get hurt or die because they are not careful. They forget to look and listen before they cross the road.

How can we reduce traffic accidents? First, all of us must obey(遵守) the traffic rules. For the drivers, they shouldn?t drive too fast. If they drive too fast, it will be very difficult to stop the cars in a very short time. The drivers mustn?t drink wine before they drive out. For the walkers, first, they must be careful when they are walking on the road. When they walk across the road, we must try to walk underpasses or footbridge. If there are no underpasses or footbridge, we must walk the crosswalk. We must stop and look both ways before crossing the road. Look left first, next look right, then look left again. Only when we are sure that the road is clear, we can cross it. The right way to cross the road is to walk quickly. It?s not safe to run. If people run across the road, they may fall down. Street Markets around the World

There are many ways of shopping. You can shop by telephone, by post or through your home computer, but for many people, the most exciting way to shop is also the most traditional—at a street market. You can find markets anywhere in the world. Here are four of them:

There are many "floating markets" in Asia; perhaps the most unusual is in Thailand, at a place called Damnoen Saduak. It's open from six in the morning to the noon every day. People sell fresh fruit from their boats.

Many Belgians(比利时人) say that the Grand Place is the most beautiful square in the world. It is the home of a colorful flower market. It's open every day except Monday. On Monday, instead of flowers, there's a wonderful bird market!

One of the world's most famous markets is in Mexico City (墨西哥城)—the Sonora Market. You can buy toys, birds, herbs and medicine. There are all kinds of things. It's open every day from early in the morning till late at night.

In England, every weekend, thousands of young people from all over London travel to the Camden Market—it's the place to go for street fashion, CDs and tapes. Many people also go there for fun.

2012一模任务型阅读

In November of 1995, Leslie was working for the Department of Social Services in North Carolina. Her job is to take children out of dangerous home situations and place them in foster homes (寄养家庭). During her first such task, Leslie saw that the children she had come to pick up were carrying all of their things in plastic bags. They didn’t have suitcases (手提箱) for their clothes. Wanting to help these children, Leslie asked her mother if she could have the family’s old suitcases to give to them. Leslie’s 10-year-old sister Abby asked how many foster children there were in the area and found out that there were 300. Most of those children had to carry their things from place to place in plastic bags. Leslie’s care and the thought of those 300 children made young Abby take action. Abby decided to ask people to give away their old suitcases to these foster children. She began making and hanging posters, speaking at churches, and asking other children for help. But after a few weeks, she had not received any ones. Abby decided to buy some suitcases with her mother’s help. That’s how Abby Burnside set up her program, Suitcases for Kids. By March of 1996, Suitcases for Kids had collected and sent 175 suitcases to the foster children. Finally, Abby’s efforts were not iced by the media. Her story was in newspapers and magazines and Abby appeared on popular television shows. As the story became known, Abby’s local chapter (分支机构) received more and more suitcases, until it collected 4,000 suitcases in 1996. Soon, Abby was traveling to different states to help set up new Suitcases for Kids chapters. By the end of 1996, there were Suitcases for Kids chapters in 19 different states. After two full years, Suitcases for Kids had set up chapters in all 50 states. By its sixth year, the little organization reached international attention, having chapters in more than ten countries. Now thousands of children around the world can carry their things in suitcases instead of plastic bags just because a 10-year-old girl decided one day that she just wanted to help. 64. Was Leslie’s work to help the foster children? 65. What did the children use to carry their things at first? 66. Why did Abby decide to take action? 67. In which year did each state have Abby’s chapters? 68. What made Abby help the children successfully? Learning to understand your mother well is what you should do. Here are the best tips towards a better relationship with her. They are not necessarily surprising, but they have worked for many people. Try them.

一模前任务型阅读专题练03(解析版)

一模前任务型阅读专题练03 题组一 This time of year, thousands of college applicants wait for e-notices and auspiciously(吉利地)sized envelopes from schools, under terrible pressure from their parents, friends, teachers, and themselves. As to this, I offer some advice, which comes not only from a bit of experience, but also a bit of research: just cool out and continue, okay? Many parents and students think there is a world of difference between the lifelong outcomes of an A-minus student who gets into, say. Princeton, and an A-minus student who applies to Princeton but “only” gets into some less selective school, like Penn State or the University of Wisconsin. They assume that a decision made by faceless Ivy League admissions officers, to some extent, will mark the difference between success and failure in life. There are two important things to say about this stress. First, to put the anxiety into context, the kids applying to these schools are already doing quite well. Seventy percent of 29-year-olds don’t have a bachelor’s degree, and the majority of BAs are earned at non-selective schools that accept a majority of their applicants. Many of the applicants have already won life’s lottery. But if that doesn’t ease the nerves of the 40, 000 people waiting on Stanford or Penn, here is a more encouraging conclusion from economics. For most applicants, it doesn’t matter if they don’t get into their top choice, according to a paper by Stacy Dale, a mathematician at Mathematica Policy Research, and Alan Krueger, an economist at Princeton University. They tracked two groups of students—one that attended college in the 1970s and the other in the early 1990s. They wanted to know:Did students attending the most elite colleges earn more in their 30s. 40s. and 50s than students with similar SAT scores, who were rejected by elite colleges? The short answer was no. Or, in the author’s language, the difference between the students who went to super-selective schools and the students with similar SAT scores rejected by those schools and went to less selective institutions was “indistinguishable from zero.” What does that mean? It means that, for many students, “who you are” is more important than where you go. It’s hard to show that highly selective colleges add much earning power, even with the ir distinguished professors and professional networks. In addition, the decision of admissions officers isn’t as important as the sum of the decisions, habits, and relationships students have built up to this point in their young life. For the elite colleges themselves, the Dale-Krueger paper had additional, fascinating findings. It’s found that the most selective schools do make an extraordinary difference in life earning for minority students from less-educated families who are more likely to rely on colleges to provide the training and job networks with great
