Different people have different views on lucky numbers. It is held that lucky numbers will bring luck. But it is also held that lucky numbers will never bring luck.

Those who hold the first opinion think that lucky numbels make one feel lucky and in turn one's lucky mind will inspire one to create lucky things. In contrast, those who hold the second view think that lucky num- bers actually have nothing to do with luck and some people like lucky numbers just fur fun.

As to me, I agree with the latter opinion. Admittedly, lucky numbers make some people feel lucky, but a lucky mind will not work miracles. It is a superstition to say that lucky numbers will bring luck because lucky numbers can never change objective reality. Only through one's efforts can one change reality for the better. Therefore, one can never depend on superstition for good fortune.

Self esteem, also called self respect, is the respect we have for ourselves, for our belief in our ability and in the value of what we do. Self-esteem makes us independent in our thoughts and actions. It makes us feel confident that we can do things well and maybe even better the next time. It is an important quality we must have if we want to achieve success in whatever we do.

The degree of self esteem varies from person to person. People with high self esteem believe that they can finish whatever they have started. For example, they are active in class and can express their ideas clearly. They are the people who are likely to succeed in their lives. Those with middling self-esteem are like those with high self esteem, but they are not so sure of their own value. Those with low self esteem, however, have many problems. They are sad most of the time. They are afraid to start activities. They feel that no one loves them. They cannot express their ideas properly. In discussions, they listen but do not talk because they are afraid that they may say something wrong and may be laughed at. They are the people who need attention the most.

So in order to get more self esteem to live a successful life, we must firstly realize its importance. We should also seize every chance to practice gaining more self-esteem. We hope that we would have enough self-esteem so that we may have more chances to succeed in this competitive world. In the meantime, we should help those with low self esteem to have more self respect and confidence in whatever they do.

Different people have different views on reading. It is held that one should read selectively. But it is also held that one should read extensively.

Those who hold the first opinion think one's time and energy are limited and one can never read as many hooks as he wishes. In contrast, those who

hold the second view think that to know the world from all perspectives one should absorb a variety of knowledge by reading extensively.

As to me, I agree with the furmer opinion. Admittedly, one can absorb more knowledge by reading extensively, but this doesn't follow that one should read without discrimination. As one's time and energy are limited, one should devote his limited time and energy to reading relevant and beneficial books. It's a waste of time to read irrelevant books. Furthermore, some books are harmful. If we don't read books selectively, we will be led astray by harmful books.

Nowadays there are fewer and fewer cinema-goers and the cinema is N slack. However,there are more and more TV viewers. There are many reasons for this social phenomenon, but in general, they come down to three major ones.

First, film tickets are too expensive, while it doesn't cost much to watch TV at home. Besides, it is time-consuming and inconvenient to go to the cinema. Nevertheless, it is very convenient and comfortable to watch TV at home. You needn't go out but just need to turn on the television. Most important of all, if you don't like the film, you'll have to sit through it; but if you don't like one programme on TV,you can shift to another.

However,stone people still go to the cinema. They usually go to the cinema for the purpose of social contact. Young people go dating there. Other people go to the cinema as an activity. For example, schools often organize children to go to the cinema. Sometimes employees also go to the cinema with the fihn tickets presented by their institutions.
