★ When to buy

Y ou’d better think twice about the direct flight for San Francisco to Raleigh.
★ Compare, compare, compare
Stifle the impulse to go to your favorite airline site to purchase tickets without doing any comparison. Example: Let’s say you want to fly from New York to London and figure your favorite
US legacy carrier will get you there for the best price. Airline price: $554 round-trip.
However, the comparison site also showed a cheaper flight from the same legacy carrier ($521). See what you’re missing when you fail to compare?

In high school I was very shy, content to hang around with my small group of friends and to concentrate on my courses. I was quickly labeled a "brain." I did so well that by the end of senior year I had perfect grades and enough college credits to give up an entire quarter of coursework.
But in early June of senior year, the principal called me into his office. He asked me to give a speech at graduation. I was surprised to look at him, my heart beating. This was the reward for my hard work? I murmured something and ran away from the office, blaming myself for staying away from physics, a subject sure to have broken up my perfect record.
I finally agreed to a compromise (妥协). I would share the honor with five other students.
I agreed to introduce my friend Judy, who would then give her own, full-length speech.
Graduation day soon arrived, I’d been practicing my speech for days, and I had it memorized. The first half hour of the ceremony passed in a blur, and then my moment came. My name was announced.
I managed to reach the stage without falling down. I faced my classmates. My voice trembled (颤抖) a little, but mostly it was clear and strong. But within seconds, I was done and heading back to my seat. I made it — I spoke in front of hundreds of people. That’s something I’d never dreamed of.
Although I didn’t realize it at the time, the successful completion of that speech gave me the confidence to take part in class at college, to give oral reports, and to finally break free of my shyness. I never would have chosen to give a speech at graduation — or ever. But I’m glad I did. I no longer hesitate when I’m faced with the prospect of doing something I feared. I know it may very well turn out to be one of my shining moments.

重庆市第122中学是一所教学质量优秀的城郊普通初中，是国家级首批基础教育课程改革实验学校，从2001年至今，已走过7年的课改历程。我校有一大批青年教师在课改中不断摔打磨练，并迅速成长起来。新课程改革的根本出发点是为了一切学生，而改革的主要落脚点是在课堂。课堂是教师发展、学生成长的主阵地，更是提高学校教学质量的核心所在，甚至有的专家们提出了“改革最终发生在课堂上”的观点。回顾7年走过的路程，我们深刻地意识到，只有带着反思上路，不断加强课堂教学改革，才能真正落实课改理念。 冷静反思，发现问题 2001年，我校成为全国首批基础教育课程改革实验学校。新的课改理念让教师们激情澎湃，兴奋不已，以饱满的热情投入到课改工作之中，将课改理念转化为具体的教学行为。在课改初期，教师对课改理念吃得不透，对新课改理念的认识存在不足，这使我们很快意识到：我们的课堂还没有真正体现课改理念，对课改理念的认识还存在一定的偏差。为此，我们很快从浮躁与狂热中沉静下来，开始深刻反思：我们的课堂教学是否真正体现了课改理念？课堂教学究竟存在哪些问题？我们应如何立足课堂，彰显课堂魅力？从而让教师的专业素养不断变得深厚，让学生的后续学习能力得到更大的发展，让学校的办学水平更上一层楼。 为了找出问题，我们一头扎进课堂，深入调研。通过调研，我们发现：我们的课堂教学中尚存在诸多问题，有的甚至是严重的问题。 问题1．舍本逐末，过分追求课堂形式 (1) 满堂问取代满堂灌。 追问：提出的问题是否有价值？提得合适吗？有没有梯度和系统？是否有思维含量？ （2）课件+表演+讨论=自主合作学习 个别教师片面理解“自主、探究与合作学习”，一节课大部分的时间都用来进行漫无边际的讨论或安排学生表演。讨论中，课堂上常常有三分之一的学生“混于其中，乐得清闲”，他们多半是在谈论与课堂无关的话题；表演时，课堂上绝大多数学生是表演者的“忠实“观众，思维未参与其中；课件展示，画面美轮美奂，学生一晃而过，心中未留下多少痕迹。这些教学，导致课堂上该凸显的教学重点未凸显出来，改突破的教学难点并未得到突破，学生该过手的知识并未过手。这样的课堂缺乏实质性的师生互动、生生互动、生本互动；缺乏有价值的知识的生成。并未充分发挥出自主、合作、探究学习方式的作用。 这类课程不但大大降低了课堂教学效率，而且还助长了学生对问题不作深入探究、不愿仔细倾听的恶习。长此下去，势必形成学生在学习上浅尝辄止的浮躁个性。这样的课堂培养出来的学生虽然有勇于表现，口头表达能力强的优点，却缺乏扎实钻研，专注于问题独立思考的良好品质。 追问：单纯的课堂热闹就是自主合作探究学习吗？内容与形式，孰轻孰重？该如何真正让学生的思维动起来？ （3）课堂评价缺乏原则，巴掌赞歌满堂飞。 有的教师在课堂上对学生的评价缺乏原则，一味叫好。答得好的，究竟好在哪里并未指出；答得不好的，怕挫伤学生积极性，不予置评，误导学生。 追问：评价应遵循的原则是什么？改如何正确引导学生？ 问题2．照“案”宣科，课堂缺乏动态调整 有的课堂教学只是在执行既定教案，缺乏对教案自觉的动态调整。教师对学生的认知准备了解不充分；教学目标的设定成为教案完整的一种形式。教师想教什么与实际在教什么存在一定的脱节。 追问：教师想教什么？教师实际又在教什么？学生实际学到了什么？ 问题3．缺乏专业引领的机制。 专家与教研员很少，一线教师很多，深入课堂，观察指导，与教师平等对话与交流。教师对
