Subject Description:

This subject examines both the history and current trends in addition to ethical codes and professional practice within the computer science discipline. Topics covered will include influential people and devices, mathematical computation, hardware, languages, paradigms, input and output of code, group work, professional and ethical responsibilities, social context of computing, privacy and civil liberties, current and emergent trends including carbon centric coding, cloud computing, quantum computing and ethical implications of current computing trends and future trends. Within these areas student will examine and explore a wide range of topics with a view to examining the current computing grand challenges.

Subject Objectives:

On completion of this subject the student should be able to:

1. Trace the development of computing as a guide to identify impacts and future trends

2. Identify ethical issues that arise in computer science and determine how to address them technically and ethically

3. Specify the strengths and weaknesses of relevant professional codes as expressions of professionalism and guides to decision-making.

4. Examine the impact of current trends in computer science from an ethical viewpoint

5. Demonstrate their ability to work as part of a team.

6. Report upon these trends in a professional manner using presentations, white papers and group reports.

SCSSE is committed to ongoing improvements and is constantly monitoring feedback from students and staff.

Attendance Requirements:

It is the responsibility of students to attend all lectures/tutorials/labs/seminars/ practical work for subjects for which they are enrolled. It should be noted that the amount of time spent on each 6 credit point subject should be at least 12 hours per week, which includes lectures/tutorials/labs etc.

Satisfactory attendance is deemed by the University, to be attendance at approximately 80% of the allocated contact hours.

Optional Attendance Statement:

Attendance rolls will be kept for lectures and tutorials. If you are present for less than 80% and would have otherwise passed you need to apply for student academic consideration, otherwise a TF (technical fail) grade may be recorded. Students MUST attend their allocated tutorial unless they have the written permission of the subject coordinator.

Method of Presentation:

In order to maximize learning outcomes, it is strongly recommended that students attend all lectures.

Assessment:

This subject has the following assessment components.

Notes on Assessment:

All assignments are expected to be completed independently. Plagiarism may result in a FAIL grade being recorded for that assignment. The class/tutorial contribution will entail the use of case studies to elicit discussion and active participation in the class. Case studies will be posted on e-learning before the class.

Electronic Submission of Assessment Items:

Unless otherwise notified by the subject coordinator, all written assignments must be submitted electronically.

Assessment General:

Submission of assessment items via email will not be accepted.

Other Procedures for the submission of assessment items:

All assignments will be returned within 2 weeks of their submission.

Technical Fail

To be eligible for a Pass in this subject a student must achieve a mark of at least 40% (16/40) in the Examination. Students who fail to achieve this minimum mark & would have otherwise passed will be given a TF (Technical Fail) for this subject.

Supplementary Exams

1. A student whose overall performance results in a TF will only be granted a supplementary assessment task (e.g. a supplementary exam or a supplementary assignment) if approved by the school assessment committee.

2. A student who achieves a mark of 48-49% will normally be eligible for a grade of WS and a supplementary exam organised by the University. In this case, the maximum grade attainable is PS (Pass Supplementary) and a mark of 50%.

3. A student who has successfully applied for academic consideration will receive either:

a. A WD - Withheld Deferred Exam - and be allowed to sit only a supplementary exam, which will be supervised by the University or

b. A WH – Withheld – and be allowed to sit a supplementary exam not supervised by the University or complete some other supplementary task

4. If a student is being investigated for misconduct and the investigation cannot be completed before the grades are released the student will receive a grade of WH until a mark is declared.

5. Calculators will not be allowed in the final exam.

Procedure for the return of assessment items:

Project reports will be available from the lecturer after being marked.

Penalties for late submission of assessment items:

Penalties apply to all late work, unless academic consideration has been granted. Late submissions will attract a penalty of 15% of the assessment mark. This amount is per day including weekends.

Work more than three (3) days late will be awarded a mark of zero.

Tutorial/Lab Closure Policy

If for any reason, the number of students in a tutorial or lab falls below a sustainable enrolment

level, as determined by the Head of School, tutorials/labs offered for that subject may be collapsed or deleted.

You will have to attend the new tutorials/lab if this closure affects the one you are attending.

We will endeavour to make this decision no later than Week 4 of session.

Exams

Supplementary Exams

The School does not offer a supplementary exam to a student who has sat a scheduled exam.

Supplementary Exams will be dealt with in accordance with student academic consideration policy (https://www.360docs.net/doc/a66391918.html,.au/about/policy/UOW060110.html) 9.2 Timing of Supplementary Exams.

While the School normally grants supplementary exams when the student does not sit the standard exam for an acceptable reason, each case will be assessed on its own merit and there is no guarantee a supplementary exam will be granted. If a supplementary exam is granted, you will normally be notified via SOLS Mail the time and date of this supplementary exam. You must follow the instructions given in the email message.

Please note that if this is your last session and you are granted a supplementary exam, be aware that your results will not be processed in time to meet the graduation deadline.

大学英语四级常考语法总结 一、虚拟语气。应着重复习能引起虚拟语气的某些介词、介词短语和连词(如lest, in case, otherwise等);一部分表示建议、主张、命令等概念的词语,由于本身隐含说话人的主观愿望,其后的主语从句、宾语从句、同位语从句往往采用“should+动词原形”;虚拟倒装句;在would rather, wish, as if, it’s time that等句型中使用适当形式表达主观愿望;混合虚拟句。 二、独立主格题。一般说来,在句子中没有连接词的情况下,逗号是无力连接两个句子的,其中一个分句要么是非谓语形式,要么是独立主格结构。两种结构都做状语,不同的是独立主格结构有自己的逻辑主语。 三、时态。英语中共有16个时态。四级考试中出现最多的是将来完成时、现在完成时、过去完成时和完成进行时。 四、名词性从句。形容词性的定语从句是考核的重点,用什么引导词,引导词前面的介词形式,引导词在从句中做什么成分,从句的语序等均有可能成为考点。此外,主语从句、同位语从句、宾语从句也应适当复习。 五、主谓一致。这类考题灵活性大,需要根据实际情况判断谓语动词的单复数形式。一部分具有生命意义的集合名词做主语时谓语动词多采用复数形式,如people, poultry, militia等;用and连接的成分表单一概念时谓语动词用单数;就近原则:主语中含有某些连词(如as well as, besides, in addition to等)时,谓语动词的数同第一个主语保持一致。
