Abstract ：The content of the history of western costume are colorful， It can help students to lay a solid foundation of professional development. In this paper， through discussing the ideal image， the combination of the past and present and different link of practice， the three main points in the application of the course of the history of western costume， and explanation the history of western costume is not only the past，it’s fashion；it’s not only a theory， also need to practice.

服装史论是几乎所有服装专业都会设置的专业基础课，包括服装设计、服饰品设计、服装营销、服装设计与工程、以及服装表演甚至染织设计、人物造型等专业也往往会将这门课归入其中，可见其重要性。在已有的研究服装史论教学方法或教学模式成果中，常常都把中国服装史和西方服装史放在一起讨论，虽然也确实有一部分学校把这两块内容合在一门课里。实际上，由于其文化背景、服装形制特征、色彩搭配等方面有着巨大的差异，其教授方法上应该根据其特征，制定不同的教学模式。本文拟讨论西方服装史教学中的几个要点。

西方服装史中的“西方”，有特定所指，是指除中国以外所有地理疆域里，在各个历史时期文明中发展比较突出，且影响其他文明的地域或者国家。就服装的流行影响来说，古代有古代埃及、美索不达米亚地区、古代希腊和古代罗马，中世纪主要在现代欧洲地区及拜占庭帝国，
