The trunk was packed with a cooler full of food and cold drinks, a blanket, beach hall, fold-up chairs, and plenty of suntan oil.

“Mom, ” Cindy moaned, “thanks to Bobby we’ll be lucky to find a good spot on the beach. ”

“OK, OK”Mom said. “I'll go see what’s taking so long.”As she turned around, Bobby walked out of the front door. He was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat, and was carrying an umbrella under his arm. As he stumbled out the door, he dropped three tubes of sunblock.

“Whoa, ” Cindy said. “Where do you think you’re going—Alaska? ”

“No. ” replied Bobby. “I’m going to the beach with you. ”

“What’s with all the clothes and the silly umbrella? ” Cindy asked.“It’s not going to rain. It’s going to be eighty-five degrees and sunny.”

“That's exactly why I’m dressed like this, “Bobby said. “My teacher said everyone should protect themselves from the sun and try not to get sunburned·”

“But,Bobby, “Mom said, “the sun isn’t evil. Having a tan is healthy, and it is actually a source of vitamin D, which is something our bodies need anyway. “

“But too much sun can cause skin cancer,” Bobby replied.“So I’m going to Slip, Slop, Slap.”

“Like a pig?” Dad asked.

"Not really,” answered Bobby. “I’m going to slip on a T-shirt, slop on the sunscreen, and slop on a hat. If I do, I will reduce my risk of getting skin cancer when I’m an adult.“

“I think your brother has a good point,” Dad said. “Remember last year when you fell asleep on the beach. You got so red that your skin blistered and peeled.”“Thanks, Dad, “ Cindy said. “I was trying to forget about that.”

Dad made room in the car for the umbrella and closed the trunk. “ I think we are all ready to go.” he said. “Where’s Cindy?”

“Here I am,”Cindy said as she ran out the front door. “I had to get some extra clothes.”

Then she smiled and looked at Bobby. “Can I borrow some of your sunscreen? ”“Sure, ”Bobby said. “I brought enough for everybody. I even made up a new slogan. ” Because I love my sister, mom, and pap, I have taught them about Slip, Slop, Slap.”

“You really are pretty smart.” said Cindy. “For a little brother.”

词数337 类别自然地理难度★★★建议用时6’实际用时_________ Mount Vesuvius, a volcano located between the ancient Italian cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, has received much attention because of its frequent and destructive eruptions. The most famous of these eruptions occurred in A.D.79.

The volcano had been inactive for centuries. There was little warning of the coming eruption, although one account discovered by archaeologists says that a hard rain and a strong wind had disturbed the calm during the previous night. Early the next morning, the volcano poured a huge river of molten rock down upon Herculaneum, completely burying the city and filling in the harhor with clotted lava.Meanwhile, on the other side of the mountain, stone and ash rained down on Pompeii. Sparks from the burning ash ignited the combustible roofs quickly. Large portions of the city were destroyed in great fire. Fire, however, was not the only cerise of destruction. Poisonous sulphuric gases saturated the air. These heavy gases were not drifting in the atmosphere and therefore sank toward the earth and suffocated people.

Over the years, excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum have revealed a great deal about the behavior of the volcano By analyzing data, much as a zoologist cut up a specimen animal, scientist have concluded that the eruption changed large portions of the area’s geography. For instance, it turned the Sarno River from its course and raised the level of the beach along the Bay of Naples. Meteorologists studying these even have also concluded that Vesuvius caused a huge tidal wave that affected the world’s climate.

In addition to making these investigations, archaeologists have been able to study the skeletons of victims by using distilled water to wash away the volcanic ash.By strengthening the brittle bones with acrylic paint, scientists have been able to examine the skeletons and draw conclusions about the diet and habits of the residents. Finally, the excavations at both Pompeii and Herculaneum have yielded many examples of classical art, such as jewelry made of bronze, which is an alloy of copper and tin.Word Bank

词数409 类别人类环境难度★★★★建议用时8’实际用时_________ Frustrated with delays in Sacramento,Bay Area officials said on Thursday they planned to take matters into their own hands to manage the region’S growing pile of electronic trash.

A San Jose councilwoman and a san Francisco supervisor said they would propose local plans aimed at controlling electronic waste if the California law-making body fails to act on two bills delayed in the Assembly. They are among a growing number of California cities and counties that have expressed the same intention.Environmentalists and local governments are increasingly concerned about the toxic threat caused by old electronic devices and the cost of safely recycling those products. An estimated 6 million televisions and computers are stocked in California homes, and an additional 6,000 to 7,000 computers become outdated every day.The machines contain high levels of lead and other dangerous substances, and are already banned from California landfills.

Legislation by Senator Byron Sher would require consumers to pay a recycling fee of up to $30 on every new machine containing a cathode ray tube.Used in almost all video monitors and televisions.those devices contain four t0 eight pounds of lead each. The fees would go toward setting up recycling programs, providing grants to non-profit agencies that reuse the tubes and rewarding manufacturers that encourage recycling.

A separate bill by Los Angeles-area Senator Gloria Romero would require high-tech manufacturers to develop programs to recycle so-called e-waste.

If passed, the measures would put California at the forefront of national efforts to manage the refuse of the electronic age.

But high-tech groups, including the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group and the American Electronics Association.oppose the measures, arguing that fees of up to$30 will drive consumers to online, out-of-state retailers.

“What really needs to occur is consumer education. Most consumers are unaware they’re not supposed to throw computers in the trash.”said Roxanne Gould, vice president of government relations for the electronics association.

Computer recycling should be a local effort and part of residential waste collection programs, she added.

Recycling electronic waste is a dangerous and specialized matter, and environmentalists maintain the state must support recycling efforts and ensure that the job isn’t contracted to unscrupulous junk dealers who send the toxic parts overseas “The graveyard of the high-tech revolution is ending up in rural China, ”said Ted Smith, director of the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition. His group is pushing for an amendment to Sher’s bill that would prevent the export of e-waste.

2017年上海市高三数学竞赛()解答(供参 考) 一、填空题:(本大题满分60分,前4小题每小题7分,后4小题每小题8分) 1、函数y = lg[arcsin(2x 2-x )] 的定义域是__________,值域是__________ . 【答案】]121(∪)021-[,,,]2 πlg ∞(,- 【提示】求定义域:]10(∈2(2 ,-x)x ,求值域: ]2 π 0(∈2arcsin(2 ,-x)x . 2、数列{}n a 是递增数列,满足:a n +12+a n 2+81 = 18(a n +a n +1) + 2a n a n +1 , n = 1,2,……,而且a 1 = 1,则数列{}n a 的通项公式a n = __________ . 【答案】a n = (3n -4)2 或者 (3n -2)2 【提示】(方法一)找规律+数学归纳法 / 代入检验。 计算可得:

归纳得:a n = (3n -4)2 或者 (3n -2)2(数学归纳法证明 / 代入检验略)。 (方法二)严格推导(注意舍去增根) 原方程变形可得:a n +12-(2a n +18)a n +1+a n 2-18a n +81 = 0 ; 由求根公式可得:2 1+)3±(=6±9=n n n n a a a a + ; 开方可得:|3±|=1+n n a a ; 计算可得:a 2 = 4或者16,当a 2 = 4,a 3 = 25;当a 2 = 16,a 3 = 49,

由已知数列{}n a 是递增数列,所以当n ≥ 3,n ∈N *时,3±= 1+n n a a , 进而3=1++n n a a , (小根不满足“数列{}n a 是递增数列”因此舍去); 可证数列n a 从第三项开始等差数列,验证可得前两项也符合,本题有两解。

Section B Directions:Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read. (A) There aren’t many actors around the world who have enough self confidence to turn down an offer from Steven Spielberg. Maybe that was why Juliette Binoche gave him a choice. She said she’d be happy to be in Jurassic Park as long as she could play a dinosaur. Of course he turned her down and it was probably a good thing. It’s difficult to imagine Juliette ripping people apart with her teeth. However, her decision doesn’t seem to have done her career any harm. She has gone on to make a string of hits, including The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The English Patient (for which she won an Oscar) and Chocolat. Success in the United States has not been so easy for other foreign stars. Gerald Depardieu is a good example. Since his first film in 1967, his filmography(影片集锦) lists 172 acting credits. But he has struggled on the other side of the pond. While some of his films have been popular in the US, they have usually been French films that travelled. One possible exception was Green Card, directed by Peter Weir, where he plays a French immigrant who goes through a fake wedding in order to stay and work in the United States. This is a predictable but sweet romantic comedy which typecasts (分配同一类型角色) its lead actors in terms of national stereotypes. While some reviewers were kind, others shredded both the film and Depardieu’s performance. While Monsieur Depardieu has n’t received the recognition he would have liked in the United States, one Mexican actor has achieved almost instant success. Gael Garcia Bernal first gained recognition in Amores Perros in 2000 and a year later in Y tu mama tambien. Since then he has appeared with hometown hero, Brad Pitt in Babel and, under the direction of top producer and director, Jim Jarmusch, he starred in Limits of Control. He hasn’t picked up an Oscar yet, but he

上海市高考英语总复习:阅读理解(附答案解析)

2021年上海市高考英语总复习:阅读理解 1.I believe in holding onto traditions because they helped our family flourish(兴旺)in a new country. But this concept is more concretely expressed this way:I believe in feeding monkeys on my birthday ﹣something I've done without fail for 35 years. In the Burmese jungle, monkeys are as common as pigeons. But in America, feeding monkeys means violating(违反)the rules. As a kid,I thought that was cool.I learned English through watching bad television shows and expected that I was the chosen warrior(勇士)sent to defend my family.Dad and I would go to the zoo early in the morning, just the two of us.When the coast was clear,I would throw my peanuts to the monkeys. I never had to explain myself until my 18th birthday. It was the first year I didn't go with my father.I went with my friends and arrived 10 minutes after the zoo gates closed."Please," I begged the zookeeper,"I feed monkeys for my family, not for me.Can't you make an exception?" "Go find a pet store," she said. If only it were so easy. That time,I got lucky.I found out that a high school classmate trained the monkeys for the movie Out of Africa,so he allowed me to feed his monkeys.Once a man with a pet monkey suspected that my story was aploy﹣that I was an animal rights activist(积极分子)out to liberate(释放)his monkey.Another time,a zoo told me that outsiders could not feed the monkeys without violating the zookeepers' collective bargaining agreement.Once in a pet store,I managed to feed a marmoset(狨)being kept in a birdcage.Another time,I was asked to wear a special suit to feed a laboratory monkey. It's rarely easy and, yet, somehow I've found a way to feed a monkey every year since I was born. (1)Why has the author fed monkeys all these years? A.To please his father. B.To develop a new hobby. C.To celebrate his birthday.

Section B Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read. (A) Look to many of history’s cultural symbols, and there you’ll find an ancestor of Frosty, the snowman in the movie Frozen. It appeared on some of the first postcards, starred in some of the earliest silent movies, and was the subject of a couple of the earliest photos, dating all the way back to the 1800s. I discovered even more about one of humanity’s earliest forms of life art during several years of research around the world. For example, snowmen were a phenomenon in the Middle Ages, built with great skill and thought. At a time of limited means of expression, snow was like free art supplies dropped from the sky. It was a popular activity for couples to leisurely walk through town to view the temporary works of chilly art. Some were created by famous artists, including a 19-year-old Michelangelo, who in 1494 was appointed by the ruler of Florence, Italy, to build a snowman in his mansion’s courtyard. The Miracle of 1511 took place during six freezing weeks called the Winter of Death. The city of Brussels was covered in snowmen—an impressive scene that told stories on every street corner. Some were political in nature, criticizing the church and government. Some were a reflection of people’s imagination. For the people of Brussels, this was a defining moment of artistic freedom. At least until spring arrived, by which time they were dealing with damaging floods. If you fear the heyday of the snowman has passed, don’t worry: I’ve learned that some explosive snowman history is still being made today. Every year since 1818, the people of Zurich, Switzerland, celebrate the beginning of spring by blowing up a snowman. On the third Monday of April, the holiday Sechselauten is kicked off when a cotton snowman called the Boogg is stuffed with explosive and paraded through town by bakers and other tradesmen who throw bread to the crowds. The parade ends with the Boogg being placed on a 40-foot pile of firewood. After the bells of the Church of St. Peter have rung six times, representing the passing of winter, the pile is lit. When the snowman explodes, winter is considered officially over—the quicker it is burnt down, the longer summer is said to be. 66. According to the passage, why did snowmen become a phenomenon in the Middle Ages? A. People thought of snow as holy art supplies. B. People longed to see masterpieces of snow. C. Building snowmen was a way for people to express themselves. D. Building snowmen helped people develop their skill and thought. 67. “The heyday of the snowman” (paragraph 4) means the time when___________. A. snowmen were made mainly by artists B. snowmen enjoyed great popularity C. snowmen were politically criticized D. snowmen caused damaging floods 68. In Zurich, the blowing up of the Boogg symbolizes__________________. A. the start of the parade
