Confidence: you‘ve either got it or you haven‘t, right? Wrong. Most people learn confidence as they go through life.

Even if you are shaking like a leaf on the inside, you‘ll make a lasting impression if you can come across as confident. Here are some confidence-building tips.

Fake(假装) it! If you can pretend that you feel confident when you don‘t and keep on doing so, your fake confidence will soon turn into real confidence. It only takes a few repetitions of an activity for it to become a habit—so get in the habit of ______ .

Think it. For an instant encouragement to yourself-esteem (自尊心), recall three things that give you positive emotions. It could be a great compliment somebody paid you, a special time when you felt happy and popular, or when you really excelled (胜过别人) at something. Bringing them to mind will help you to feel good instantly—and when you feel good, you have greater confidence.

Focus it. Difficult situati ons, such as interviews or new jobs, can make you feel shy. If you‘re feeling anxious about yourself, stop thinking about yourself and focus on something else. It could be that you focus on something normal, like the view out of the window, or that you pay more attention to the task at hand—getting the job! Either way, you'll feel less awkward.

Talk it. If you keep telling yourself that you're not good at something, you‘ll start to believe it. Next time you blame yourself, ask yourself whether you'd talk to your friends like that. So quit being negative and start recognizing and appreciating the things you are good at.

Walk it. Great posture can signal great confidence. Walk with a purposeful stride, walk with your back straight and with your head held up high!

Being healthy means taking care of yourself physically and mentally. Here are some of my best tips on how to do both:

Break a bad habit.

You don‘t really ―break‖ habits. You replace the unwanted behavior with something that prevents you from doing it and that doesn‘t have unhealthy side effects. So if your problem is that you eat too much when you get home from work, find something new to do that is incompatible(不能共存的)with what you usually do. You can‘t walk around the track at the school and pig out in your kitchen at the same time.

Grow your marriage.

Relationships are negotiated, and the negotiation never stops. It‘s always a give-and-take, always requires wor k. It‘s like if you planted a garden and came back six months later----you wouldn‘t even be able to find it. You have to tend it, feed it, weed it, deal with the problems.

Beat stress.

My dog, Maggie, is the best anti – stress tool I have. A few minutes petting, scratching or playing with her, and . Exercise also helps. Just about every day, I‘m on the tennis court. It‘s a great workout, and if I don‘t have that, I don‘t cope as well, sleep as well or think as well.

Refocus your anger.

Expressing your anger is just not that good an idea. You say things you don‘t mean.Instead, recognize that anger is usually a symptom of hurt, fear or frustration(挫折), and deal with the causes rather than blow up. When you do that, you‘re a problem solver.

Don’t medicate with food.

It never, ever works. You‘re denying your issue by eating your way through it, instead of saying, Hey, I‘ve got a problem.

Walking is a popular form of exercises. It is an easy activity and offers a good way to improve physical fitness. Walking also gives many of the same benefits as other kinds of exercises. Regular, brisk walks helps a person‘s body work better. Walking builds a stronger heart and lungs. The heart pumps blood through the body. It gets more rest between beats. Walking also seems to help protect the heart from heart diseases. The lungs work better because they take in and use oxygen more effectively. Walking can help __________, too. A quick fifteen-minute walk burns as many calories as jogging the same distance in half the time. Walking causes very few injuries. So there is also a lower ―dropout‖ rate among walkers than among runners. People are more likely to continue a walking program. This gives a better chance for success.

Walking offers some mental benefits, too. It seems to make people feel better. Many walkers say they sleep better at night when they take regular walks. Others say they have a better attitude about life.

Walking offers many of the same physical and mental benefits as other forms of exercise, but walking offers some special advantages, too.

★Almost everyone can walk. There are no special lessons of coaching. To become a serious walker, a person only needs to walk faster, farther and more often.

★People can walk almost anywhere. There are no special playing fields or courts for walking. Sidewalks, streets, parks, fields and malls are excellent places for walking.

★People can walk almost anytime. A person doesn‘t need a team or a par tner for walking. There is no ―season‖ for walking. Most walkers walk in all kinds of weather.

★Walking doesn‘t cost anything. There are no special fees for walking. Good walking shoes and comfortable clothes are the only equipment that a walker needs.

Walking offers a form of exercise within the reach of nearly everyone. With a little time and effort, people can rediscover a valuable form of exercise and improve their fitness.

Electronic devices(装置) are changing the way people listen to music. But studies show the devices may be causing hearing loss in many people. Some experts say people may be playing them too loud and too long. And experts say sound levels on these devices need to be set lower. Researchers did a study with three hundred high school students and one thousand adults. They were asked about their use of portable music devices. Forty percent of the students and adults said they set the sound levels at high on their players. But students were twice more likely to play the music at a very loud volume(音量). More than half of the students said they would probably not limit their listening time.

The study found that more than half of the students and less than forty percent of the adults had at least one kind of hearing loss. Some reported difficulty hearing parts of a discussion between two people. Others said they had to raise volume controls on a television or radio to hear it better. And, some experienced ringing in their ears or other noises.

Hearing experts say part of the problem is the listening equipment people are using. They say large earphones that cover the whole ear are probably safer than the smaller earbuds(耳塞) that come with most music players. Hearing loss may not be obvious for years, however, once it happens, there is few chance of curing. About thirty million Americans have some hearing loss. One third of them lost their hearing as a result of loud noises.

The American Speech-language-Hearing Association is working with companies and government officials on setting rules for use of portable music devices. The group says the best way to protect your hearing is to _______, limit listening time and use earphones that block out foreign noises. 76.What is the best title of the passage? [1] To ensure the protection of our global village from pollution for us and for future generations, it is the duty of every individual and people to take an active part in environmental protection. [2] We have often heard that there are dangerous levels of air pollution in major cities of the world all the way from Los Angeles to Seoul. Yet little has been done to solve this problem worldwide. Researchers are telling us that it will certainly cost money to clean up overcrowded cities, but if we do not, there will be a greater price to pay the price of shortening our own life expectancy. [3] As a result of continued pollution, we can expect higher expenses in health care in the future, not to mention the extra costs of cleaning up our water, and protecting our food supply. Scientists are trying to inform us that in the long run, we will save money and our natural resources by ___________________ now.

[4] It seems to me that it is really a matter of having a very long term vision so that the activities of societies take into account any damages to the environment. In particular, it is for those economists in governments to take the costs of harming the environment into consideration. Once we do that, it will be clearer to everyone that it will pay to change the way we currently go about functioning in society.

[5] Thanks to technologies, esp. clean technologies, a lot less pollution could be produced. It is just a matter of cost. And it will be very important that the industrialized world do not just export old, useless, and dirty technologies to the developing countries.

77. Which sentence(s) in this passage could be replaced by the following one?

[1] The need for love is deeply rooted in the human psyche. Love is a way of overcoming the feeling of human separateness. Separateness, according to psychologists, means to be cut off, helpless and alone in the world. It is the source of all anxiety.

[2]_____________________. It can be selfish and possessive, or unselfish and giving. Abraham Maslow distinguishes between two kinds of love: B-love and D-love. B-love or' being-love' means love for another person: ~ unselfish love not dependent upon your own needs. D-love or ' deficiency-love' is a selfish possessive love which is based upon someone else‘s ability to satisfy your needs.

[3] D-love is conditional: it depends upon whether personal needs continue to be met…. But B-love is unconditional: it depends not upon what you do, but upon who you are. Furthermore, as it depends upon who you are, it is possible only when you allow yourself to be known to the other person.

[4] The psychologist Erich Fromm also distinguishes between two types of love, namely, immature love, called by him symbiotic union共生体), and mature love. Symbiotic union is an immature love based upon the satisfaction of needs and is similar to Maslow' s concept of D-love.

[5] Mature love, on the other hand, is a relationship that allows individuals to retain (保持) their independence, their identity, and their integrity. In mature love people can overcome their sense of separateness yet continue to be themselves. The immature lover would say, ' I love you because I need you.‘ the mature one: ? I need you because I love you.‘

(英语)英语阅读理解练习题20篇及解析

(英语)英语阅读理解练习题20篇及解析 一、高中英语阅读理解 1.阅读理解 Many people have long dreamed of being able to fly around as simply as riding a bicycle. Yet the safety and strength of a flying bike was always a big problem. Over the past 10 years, developments in technology have moved the dream of personal flying vehicles closer to reality. Now, two groups of inventors say such vehicles may be available soon. The British company Malloy Aeronautics has developed a prototype (原型) of its flying bicycle. Grant Stapleton, marketing sales director of Malloy Aeronautics, says the Hoverbike is able to get in and out of small spaces very quickly. It can be moved across continents very quickly because it can be folded and packed, he adds. Mr. Stapleton says safety was the company's main concern. He says the designers solved the safety issue by using overlapping rotors ( 交叠式旋翼 )to power the vehicle. The company is testing a full-size prototype of the Hoverbike, which will most likely be used first by the police and emergency rescue teams. In New Zealand, the Martin Aircraft Company is also testing a full-size prototype of its personal flying device, called the Jetpack. It can fly for more than 30 minutes, up to 1,000 meters high and reach a speed of 74 kilometers per hour. Peter Coker is the CEO of Martin Aircraft Company. He said the Jetpack “is built around safety from the start. In his words, reliability is the most important element of it. We have safety built into the actual structure itself, very similar to a Formula One racing car.” The Jetpack uses a gasoline-powered engine that produces two powerful jet streams. Mr. Coker says it also has a parachute (降落伞) that can be used should there be an emergency. “It starts to work at very low altitude and actually saves both the aircraft and the pilot,” he adds. 阅读专练 Section A Life has been discovered in ancient Roman tombs, proving that tombs are not just resting places for the dead. Two new species of bacteria* have been found on the walls of the Roman tombs, and they might help to protect the cultural heritage. Named after Pope Saint Callistus I, the tombs were built at the end of the second Century. They are part of a large graveyard that covers 150,000 square meters, equivalent to 20 football fields. Bacteria can grow on the walls of tombs and often cause damage. Researchers hope to develop methods to protect cultural heritage sites by studying the bacteria. The two newly-discovered species of bacteria belong to the Kribbella group and are named Kribbella catacumbae and Kribbella sancticallisti. The special conditions in tombs have allowed the species to evolve. In fact, the two new Kribbella species were taken from two sites very close to each other. This shows that even small changes in environment can lead bacteria to evolve separately. Kribbella species are found in many different places all over the world. Since they were first discovered in 1999, several species of this type 实用文档

一、高中英语阅读理解 1.阅读理解 Shark attacks not only disturb beach activities, but can affect associated tourist industries. Shark nets are a common solution to preventing shark attacks on beaches, but they cause dangers to sea ecosystems. Seeking a cost-effective way to monitor beach safety over large areas, we have developed a system called Shark Spotter. It combines artificial intelligence (AI), computing power, and drone (无人机) technology to identify and warn lifesavers to sharks near swimmers. The project is a cooperation between the University of Technology Sydney and The Ripper Group, which is pioneering the use of drones—called "Westpac Little Ripper Lifesavers"—in the search and rescue movement in Australia. SharkSpotter can detect sharks and other potential threats using real-time aerial imagery. The system analyses video from a camera attached to a drone to monitor beaches for sharks, send warnings, and conduct rescues. Developed with techniques known as "deep learning", the Shark Spotter system receives imagery from the drone camera and attempts to identify all objects in the scene. Once certain objects are detected, they are put into one of 16 categories: shark, whale, dolphin, rays, different types of boats, surfers, and swimmers. If a shark is detected, Shark Spotter provides both a visual sign on the computer screen and an audible warning to the operator. The operator confirms the warning and sends text messages from the Shark Spotter system to the Surf Life Savers for further action. In an emergency, the drone is equipped with a lifesaving flotation pod (漂浮仓) together with an electronic shark repellent (驱逐装置) that can be dropped into the water in cases where swimmers are in severe trouble, trapped in a rip, or if there are sharks close by. In January 2018, the Westpac Little Ripper Lifesavers was used to rescue two young swimmers caught in a rip at Lennox Head, NSW. The drone flew down the beach some 800 meters from the lifeguard station, and a lifesaving flotation pod was dropped from the drone. The complete rescue operation took 70 seconds. We believe Shark Spotter is a win-win for both marine life and beachgoers. This unique technology combines dynamic video image processing AI and advanced drone technology to creatively deal with the global challenge of ensuring safe beaches, protecting environments, and promoting tourism. (1)A Shark Spotter is ________. A. a solution to monitor sharks B. an equipment to identify lifesavers C. a technology to prevent shark attacks D. a project to pioneer the use of drones (2)When a shark is spotted near a swimmer, the system will ________. A. take timely action B. analyze the visual data C. classify the identified objects D. turn on "deep learning" mode (3)The example in the 5th paragraph shows us that the system is ________. A. efficient in saving lives B. effective in detecting sharks C. smart in driving sharks away D. practical over the whole sea area

高中英语阅读理解练习 1

高中英语阅读理解练习1(共2篇) A Every American family has its own traditions on Thanksgiving Day, and mine is not different. Once the national holiday arrives, my mom rises early to make the meal. She puts a turkey in the oven, chops carrots and bakes pies. I'm sorry to say that the men in the family — my dad, my younger brother and myself — rarely pitch in to help. Our job is to wash the mountain of dirty dishes after the meal is over. Around 2 pm every Thanksgiving Day, family members seat themselves around the kitchen table. Plates of turkey, vegetables, salad, rolls and pies cover it. At this point, we can hardly keep ourselves from drooling (流口水) all over our fancy clothes, but it's not yet time to eat. First, we must bow our heads, close our eyes and say a prayer of thanks aloud to God for giving us everything we have. Under normal circumstances, I would have no problem making a list of things I am thankful for. I grew up in a loving family. My parents, who aren't wealthy, took out loans to help me pay for university. But, the funny thing is, every time I sit down for Thanksgiving dinner and try to say a prayer of thanks, my mind usually goes blank. I think it has something to do with my growling (咕咕叫) stomach and all of that food sitting right there under my nose. Eventually, though, we all finish our short prayers and dig_in. To be sure, the day includes other highlights — visiting with family and watching football. But usually around 6 pm we are all ourselves stuffed like turkeys and thankful to have a nice warm bed to sleep in. 1.The purpose of the text is to__________. A.tell what the family do for Thanksgiving Day B.tell how the family spends Thanksgiving Day C.introduce foods served on Thanksgiving Day D.introduce the American Thanksgiving Day 解析:主旨大意题。作者开门见山点明美国每家每户都有自己的感恩节传统,然后详细描述他们一家人这一天的活动,因此B项“讲述这一家人如何过感恩节”能概括全文大意。 答案:B 2.On Thanksgiving Day the author's family do the following except__________.
